American McGee’s Bad Day L.A.

How American McGee managed to leverage his work as a level designer on Doom 2 and Quake into getting his name at the front of games is still a mystery after all these years. He's no Sid Meier. At his best – Alice: Madness Returns has its fans – McGee is a kind of Tim Burton For Dummies, and at his worst he's responsible for Bad Day L.A. This is the game where you play a homeless man who becomes a hero by shooting people with a fire extinguisher to help them whether they're actually on fire or have caught a zombie plague. There's an attempt at social commentary but it's so reliant on stereotypes that it comes off as tone-deaf and completely disconnected from reality.
