Jack Palance's Oscar Push Ups

Longtime character actor Jack Palance was 73-years-old in 1992 when he won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role in City Slickers. A nice story, but it was his acceptance that cemented his place as an early '90s pop culture legend: After taking the stage, Palance dropped and pounded out a series of one-armed push-ups. Telecast host Billy Crystal turned the stunt into a series of running jokes (“Jack Palance is backstage on the Stairmaster”; "Jack Palance just bungee-jumped off the Hollywood sign"). The following year’s Oscar telecast opened with Palance dragging a giant Acadamy Awards statuette onto the stage — with Crystal riding on top.
