1992 Barcelona Games, 1996 Atlanta Games, 2000 Sydney Games
Track and field
Medal count: Four golds
The 1992 beginning of Johnson's historically great Olympic career was hindered by a food poisoning, which caused him to lose weight before the Games and led to his inability to qualify for the 200 meter sprint. He did, however, win gold in the 4x400 relay and help set a world record. In 1996, Johnson – donning gold Nike sneakers – became the first man to win the 200 meter and 400 meter in a single Olympiad, and set a still-current world record in the latter event. He tried to repeat in 2000, winning gold in the 400 but losing the 200 due to injury. He would have won gold for the 4x400 but the medals were later stripped due to teammate Antonio Pettigrew's use of banned substances.
