Medal count: Three golds
Devers' running career was nearly ended by a bout with Graves' disease, an autoimmune illness that almost forced doctors to amputate her feet. She recovered for the 1992 games, and won the 100-meter sprint in a photo finish, but lost the 100-meter hurdles when she tripped over the last obstacle. In 1996, she won gold in the 4x100 relay and repeated in the 100-meter, with another photo finish confirming the results.
