Twitter fans apparently can’t get enough of Justin Bieber, Ashton Kutcher and Oprah, as traffic on the social networking messaging service has surged to a staggering 155 million tweets each day.

According to the company’s PR team, which recently made its internal stats public, the number of 140-character-or-less messages sent daily has nearly tripled in just a year. Data also shows a 41 percent increase in tweets per day in the first three months of 2011, and a 38 percent jump during the same period, just in the U.S. alone.

New account signups also rose by 52 percent between December and March worldwide, with mobile registrations enjoying an equally healthy 50 percent growth during the same period, largely fueled by Android-device and iPad users. With a constant stream of gems such as “cutest picture of the day: Kitty Purry in her Shark bed being a boss,” courtesy of celebs like Katy Perry, it’s easy to see the appeal.
