Recording epic Madden NFL or Call of Duty gameplay videos is suddenly a possibility with Roxio’s $99.99 Game Capture device for consoles, which lets you readily create and archive movie clips for online upload. The company’s new $49.99 PC Game Capture software, coming in Q2 2011, will also allow computer users to enjoy a similar solution for taping timeless World of Warcraft moments.
Both options allow output of game videos or screenshots to popular formats including AVI, WMV, DivX, MP4 and JPG, allowing users to capture films from the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, or from desktop and laptop, respectively. Roxio Game Capture hardware is USB-compatible and ships with component and RCA cables for easy setup, though output is sadly confined to 480p maximum resolution (non-HD). Roxio PC Game Capture happily offers full-resolution real-time video capture in high definition, though, and supports OpenGL- and DirectX 8-10–based PC games.
Both offer tutorials for getting started and a suite of tools for editing, enhancing and adding music, commentary and transitions to creations, which can then be uploaded to Facebook, YouTube and other online outlets.
