Howard Stern will celebrate his birthday in a big way this year, with Sirius XM announcing a special live broadcast from New York City, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, on the evening of January 31st, 2014. "Howard Stern's Birthday Bash" will be the first of its kind since Stern made the jump from terrestrial to satellite radio. Specifics of the event – including venue, VIP guests, performers, and other surprises – will be announced on The Howard Stern Show in the coming weeks.
"With this birthday bash, we are finally one step closer to making my birthday the national holiday it deserves to be," Stern cracked in a statement. Most certain to be in attendance is Stern's longtime co-host Robin Quivers, who last May underwent a 12-hour surgery that saw a grapefruit-sized tumor removed from her pelvis. While her illness was not divulged on The Howard Stern Show and doctors initially gave her just a 10-percent chance of survival after the surgery, months of chemotherapy have left Quivers cancer free. Stern's longtime co-host recently opened up about her battle with cancer and long recovery in a revealing new story in a recent issue of Rolling Stone.
"Over the years," Quivers says, "people have often said to us that they were going through some horrible thing in their life – maybe the worst thing that had ever happened, or that they could think would ever happen – and that, somehow, in that state, we made them laugh. And I was like, 'That's a wonderful calling.'"
