Jay-Z's Rocawear to 'Partner' with Pharrell's Billionaire Boys Club

He is not "buying" the label, the rapper tweets

As if Jay-Z didn't already have an empire to run — or at least co-reign with Kanye, on the cusp of their mutual Watch The Throne release and tour — GQ is reporting that the rapper's clothing company, Rocawear, now "owns the licensing to manufacture and distribute" Billionaire Boys Club, aka Pharrell's clothing line.

Specific details are still developing, but so far Jay-Z has been quick to clarify that he has not "bought" the line, but that the Rocawear x BBC union will be a true partnership.

Essentially, this means that Rocawear's backing will offer Pharrell's innovative, but still fledgling, line some fiscal security, enabling it to grow legs at retail by reaching larger and more diverse points of sale. In this troubling economy, it's the kind of investment opportunity that many independent brands would kill for.
