Research in Motion, the maker of BlackBerry smartphones, is developing a digital music service for its subscribers. The service, which is likely to launch in the near future, would allow BlackBerry Messenger users to send songs to other subscribers. Negotiations are still underway, but the service is expected to cost less than $10 a month.

According to the New York Times' sources, the BlackBerry program would differ from Spotify, Rhapsody and cloud storage services in that it would limit users to sharing about 50 songs, as opposed to streaming millions of tracks.
