Amazon Adds Features to Cloud Drive

Music service will now include unlimited storage for subscribers

By |

Amazon is now offering unlimited space for music on their new Cloud Drive service for subscribers who pay $20 a year, free storage for all MP3 purchases made their their digital store and access to music stored on an iPad device. The expanded service serves as initiative for early adopters to stick with Amazon's cloud storage rather than switch over to similar services such as Google's Music Beta or Apple's iCloud, which is expected to launch later this year.

Though Amazon has an immediate advantage in having introduced its Cloud Drive and Cloud Player earlier than its rivals, it may be difficult to compete with Apple's iCloud down the line. Apple has been working with major labels to attain licenses that will allow their service to provide features that the license-free Amazon and Google cannot. Apple also has the advantage of dominating the paid download market with its iTunes store.
