Happy Belated 80th Birthday to the Great Sam Cooke

Had Sam Cooke lived, Saturday would have been his 80th birthday. Here's an amazing clip of the soul legend performing Bob Dylan's "Blowin' In The Wind" on Shindig in September of 1964. (It's probably the only time that song was performed with go-go dancers.)

Just three months after this taping Cooke was shot dead by the manager of the Hacienda Motel in Los Angeles. Five decades later people are still debating exactly what happened that night, but nobody disputes that it was one of the greatest tragedies in the history of popular music.
