Top Toy: Smartphone Does 3-D Without Glasses

Like other glasses-free 3-D smartphones such as AT&T and LG’s Thrill 4G (aka Optimus 3D), Sprint’s new HTC EVO 3D hopes to make three-dimensional special effects the norm for mobile communications going forward.

Featuring a 4.3-inch touchscreen that displays 3-D graphics without special glasses, the mobile handset supports the Android 2.3 operating system and 4G high-speed wireless connectivity. It also offers dual rear-mounted 5MP digital cameras for recording next-gen video and photos (a 1.3MP camera is also located on the front), with a toggle switch letting owners freely swap between 1080p (2-D) or 720p (3-D) resolution.

Powered by a brawny 1.2Ghz dual-core processor, suitable for running high-end apps, the device also packs full social media integration, 4GB of internal memory and Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS and digital music player functionality. Arriving this summer with a complete range of Google apps, as well as 3-D games, films and YouTube features, it complements a growing array of 3-D devices including tablets (G-Slate), camcorders (Bloggie 3D) and video game systems (Nintendo 3DS).
