Game On: Signed Copy of Tetris Selling for $1 Million

A copy of classic video game puzzler Tetris, signed by creator Alexey Pajitnov, is currently selling on eBay for the bargain price of $1 million. A like-new copy of the Japanese Mega Drive (Sega Genesis) version, only a handful of the rare cartridges reportedly exist.

According to CNET, while offers below this asking price will be considered, Spanish seller “shinsnk” has already rejected two bids of upwards of $17,000. In the auction listing, he admits to paying roughly $15,837 dollars for the cartridge four years ago himself. If current public inquiries (which ask if he’ll accept an offer of $43,186) are indeed serious, expect to have your checkbook ready.

Priced higher than even the legendary gold carts from the 1990 Nintendo World Championships, the online auction could bring in more money than any sale of video game memorabilia to date. For sanity’s sake though, lets hope the final sale price doesn’t come anywhere near a cool seven figures, or a number of starving children, healthcare research institutes and floundering government agencies make take umbrage.
