Celling Out: Verizon 4G LTE Network Country's Fastest Says New Report

Verizon Wireless’ LTE network is the country’s fastest, according to research recently conducted by PC Magazine. Kicking the crap out of rival 3G and 4G wireless networks in a nationwide survey of mobile bandwidth spanning 21 cities, reviewers found that it clearly outpaces competing networks from AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile.

Based on the publication’s recent tests, Verizon LTE network data coverage far outclassed alternative 4G networks, and was found to be “much faster than other mobile Web options, with speeds that often exceed home Internet connections.” Cities surveyed included major metropolitan cities in every region, including New York, Boston, Atlanta, Charlotte, Detroit, Chicago, Miami and Dallas. AT&T was found to provide the best coverage and speed to smartphone owners in rural areas, given better service in remote regions of the country, however.

Concluding that Verizon’s 4G technology far outpaces other carriers, who use differing 4G solutions for regional and nationwide coverage, the network’s speeds averaged 9.46Mbps across the U.S., with download speeds topping out at an eye-opening 37.66Mbps. “Even with one hand tied behind its back—a 20-percent penalty to its speed score for its lack of rural coverage—Verizon's new 4G network trounced the other carriers,” findings conclude. “In many areas, it was even faster than some DSL or cable connections.”
