See Stephanie Urbina Jones' Tropical Daydream in 'Vamonos' Video

Country singer hopes to boost the profile of Hispanic artists with sunny clip for new single

Country singer Stephanie Urbina Jones hopes to boost the profile of Hispanic country artists with her new video for "Vamonos."

Although dozens of country songs through the years have reflected a beach theme and the influence of Latin culture, the majority have been hits for white male artists. So it's doubly refreshing to encounter Stephanie Urbina Jones, a Latina singer-songwriter whose latest single and video, "Vamonos! (Let's Go!)," capture the joyous fantasy of a tranquil island getaway.

The second single from her fifth LP, Fiery Angel, the bouncy, tropical tune was co-written by Jones with Mark Marchetti and Will Robinson, and the splashy video, directed by Miguel Valle (Coldplay), was shot in Isla Mujeres, Mexico, 13 miles off the coast of the picturesque Yucatan Peninsula.

"Two days, six crew members, two best friends, a drone, two golf carts, crashing a wedding and a crazy beautiful island in the Mexican Caribbean, we captured the heart and spirit of what I love about Mexico, the Mexican people, and the song 'Vamonos'," says Jones.

Jones wrote the song at what she acknowledges was the hardest time in her life. Fortunately, her co-writers cheered her up with the idea to give her a glimpse of the life she would one day enjoy. After writing the song, she followed the inspiration of the lyric and took a solo trip Isla Mujeres (the Island of the Women).

"During the journey, I made the decision that I would live life with my heart wide open and give back what I had been given," the San Antonio native tells Rolling Stone Country. "That defining trip shaped and changed my life forever and this song was and is the medicine that breathed new hope into my life. I hope it brings some joy, laughter and fiery fun into the world in the midst of turbulent times."

In recent years, Jones has taken her Latin-infused country music to some of the world's most high-profile stages, from the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and Japan's Country Gold to the Americana Cavalcade in Scotland and Mexico's Magic Town Music Fest. Last year, she earned her first Number One hit as a songwriter when The Voice winner Craig Wayne Boyd debuted in the top spot on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart with "My Baby's Got a Smile on Her Face."

Fiery Angel, Jones's fifth independent album, was the first of two LPs she released last year. The other was the lively Christmas collection Feliz Navidad Y'all. She is currently on tour with upcoming dates in Illinois, Texas and more.
