Hear Brandy Clark's Bawdy Outtake 'You're Drunk'

Reggae-tinged track is hilarious holdover from 'Big Day in a Small Town' sessions

Brandy Clark's "You're Drunk" is an outtake from her 'Big Day in a Small Town' LP.

More than a year after the release of her Grammy-nominated LP, Big Day in a Small Town, Brandy Clark unveils the hilariously hopped-up "You're Drunk," a reggae-tinged outtake from the album penned with longtime collaborators Josh Osborne and Shane McAnally in a West Hollywood hotel room.

The saucy storyline, which kicks off with a 2 a.m. booze-fueled knock at the door, finds Clark musing about the late-night caller who's "lookin' for a get-you-over-that-heartbreak-humpty-hump," and later singing the wickedly funny line, "No, I really don't care if you're hung… over tomorrow, 'cause right now you're just drunk… as a skunk."

"It's funny, I never took this song seriously if that makes sense," says Clark. "However, when we went in to cut it, it immediately became a favorite – it just came to life – but, at the time, it just didn't fit the overall vibe on Big Day. . . I remember thinking even then we'd have to find a way to get it out."

"You're Drunk" has quickly become a favorite in Clark's hugely entertaining live shows, which, like her albums, alternate from this type of lighthearted romp to deeply introspective country heartbreakers including "Three Kids, No Husband." Clark's live shows of late have benefited from the inclusion of a full band, including upright bassist Vanessa McGowan, whose playing adds even more spice and swagger to this new tune.

Clark, who recently played Nashville's City Winery on a double bill with Charlie Worsham, returns to that venue Wednesday night, followed by a pair of shows this weekend in Wisconsin and an appearance at Chicago's Windy City Smokeout on Sunday, July 16th. She's on tour throughout the summer and fall, including appearances with Tim McGraw and Faith Hill as well as Miranda Lambert.
