Steve Moakler rolled up to NBC's Today Show this morning for a performance of "Wheels," the new single off his recently released album Steel Town, inspired by his hometown of Pittsburgh.
"You guys don't look like steel workers that I've seen," joked guest co-host Craig Ferguson before Moakler and his band took the stage.
The up-and-coming country artist, whose songs have been recorded by Dierks Bentley, Jake Owen and others, looked right at home on the Today stage, delivering a soaring, reverb-soaked rendition of the nostalgic track, which was co-written by Caitlyn Smith and Gordie Sampson. Moakler recently released a video for "Wheels," an emotional clip that traces the stages of a man's life through the sets of wheels that mark them.
Moakler, one of Rolling Stone Country's Artists You Need to Know, is currently on the road with Drew Baldridge and the duo Smithfield on the SiriusXM Highway Finds Tour, which runs through mid-May. Along with songs off Steel Town, Moakler has been working in some choice covers onstage, including an inspired version of John Waite's 1984 Number One "Missing You."
