CMT has announced its host and first wave of performers for the 2017 CMT Music Awards. Nashville star Charles Esten will host the annual salute to country-music videos, set for June 7th in Nashville. This marks Esten's first time as emcee.
Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton, Thomas Rhett and Brett Eldredge are all slated to perform, with more artists to be announced.
The CMT Awards are country music's most irreverent awards, more in line with MTV's Video Music Awards than the CMAs or ACMs. Past hosts have included Kid Rock, Pamela Anderson, and Billy Ray Cyrus and Miley Cyrus. Erin Andrews and J.J. Watt hosted last year's show, but Esten's role on Nashville, which moved from ABC to CMT in January to record ratings for the cable network, is a natural fit.
Nominations will be announced on May 9th, with fan votes determining the winners in categories like Video of the Year. Polls will remain open until June 5th.
