Inside John Mellencamp's Martina McBride, Darius Rucker Duets: Ram Report

Heartland singer enlisted McBride for new 'Sad Clowns & Hillbillies' album, and teamed with Hootie and the Blowfish leader for 'CMT Crossroads'

John Mellencamp, who recently performed with Darius Rucker for 'CMT Crossroads,' will release a new album with Carlene Carter.

John Mellencamp's new album doubles down on the heartland singer's country and Americana cred.

Arriving April 28th, Sad Clowns & Hillbillies will be the "Jack & Diane" star's 23rd full-length album, a collection of 13 songs highlighted by country royalty Carlene Carter. Martina McBride also appears on one track, the single "Grandview," which Mellencamp and McBride performed on The Tonight Show (watch the performance below).

Carter contributed heavily to the album, co-writing and singing on many of the songs. The daughter of June Carter previously worked with Mellencamp on two film and stage projects and opened every show of his Plain Spoken Tour in 2015 and 2016, including two sold-out nights at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium.

On June 5th, they'll head back out on the road together for 22 dates on the Sad Clowns & Hillbillies Tour, bringing along Emmylou Harris, Jewl and folk-pop duo Lily & Madeline.

Recently, Mellencamp teamed up with Darius Rucker to film a new episode of the musical mashup series CMT Crossroads. The installment airs March 24th on CMT.
