Jason Isbell, John Prine and others saluted Don Williams at the Grand Ole Opry.

Four generations of country artists turned out in Nashville to salute the songs of a true giant on Tuesday night, taking the Grand Ole Opry stage in honor of Don Williams.

Jason Isbell, John Prine, Amanda Shires, Alison Krauss and Bill Anderson all made appearances, singing tunes like "If I Needed You," "'Til the Rivers All Run Dry" and "Love Is on a Roll" from throughout Williams' career.

Those songs and others are included on a new tribute album to Williams. Titled Gentle Giants: The Songs of Don Williams, the LP also features Brandy Clark, Chris Stapleton and Morgane Stapleton, Dierks Bentley, Trisha Yearwood, Garth Brooks and Pistol Annies. Produced by Garth Fundis, who began working with Williams during the 1970s, the 11-track album rounds up country-pop chart climbers, Americana all-stars and iconic songwriters.

Williams was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2010 and retired in 2016. He's scored 17 Number One hits, including "Tulsa Time," "It Must Be Love" and "Stay Young."
