"Maybellene," Marty Robbins

Marty Robbins had the earliest country remake of a Berry tune with "Maybellene" (or "Mabellene" as it is sometimes spelled), reaching Number Nine on the chart in 1955. Rock & roll-to-country convert Conway Twitty was among the more avid Berry disciples, covering this as well as "Reelin' and Rockin'," "30 Days" and others. In 1979, George Jones and Johnny Paycheck took their version of "Maybellene" to the Top Ten, reaching Number Seven.
