Lelia Broussard Takes On Bonnaroo With Energy and Attitude
It was easy to spot Lelia Broussard's fans: many came to her Bonnaroo set yesterday with warpaint on their faces (like the singer) and "Team Lelia" painted across their backs. Broussard didn't disappoint, bringing attitude to her afternoon set at This Tent with bouncy pop songs about hipster bitches and sad robots.

Wearing a yellow tank top and shorts, the singer kicked off her battle against the Sheepdogs with "Masquerade" – with a thudding rhythm and sugary ooh-ooh harmonies – making several curious festivalgoers' heads start bobbing. She was chatty throughout, introducing "Turn Me On" as "a song about fuckin' like a teenager" and the aggressive "Hipster Bitch," as, well, "a song about hipsters when they're bitches. I guess it's more of a Coachella thing." But towards the end of her set, there was a moment of seriousness when the moment hit her. "Holy shit," she said as she gazed at the sweaty crowd. "This is amazing."
She closed out with "Satellite," which she said was about a robot trapped in a video game; bouncing so high she appeared airborne for a moment. Broussard had fun out there, and didn't get upset when SNL's Jay Pharaoh, who emceed the Choose the Cover event, repeatedly botched her name. "He apologized afterward," she said. "Everyone messes up my name. Nobody can say it right!"
