I'm calling today's blog: Bottom line of a bottom feeder. Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen is a box-office machine (it sure ain't human). The official domestic gross for the first 5 days of Michael Bay's craptacular is $200.1 million. That ranks it as the 2nd best opening ever for a Wednesday-to-Sunday movie launch. The Dark Knight, at $203.8, still holds the record. Whew! I had feared shit would rise to the top.
Which brings me to today's question: Which of the Top 5-day openings in movie history sucks the most? Hint: Only one of the five is actually of real value.
Here are the contenders:
The Dark Knight ($203. 8 million)
Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen ($200.1 million)
Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith ($172.8 million)
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest ($169.5 million)
Spider-Man 3 ($169 million)
I can only approach this question by picking the 2nd suckiest since Bay tops all my lists for crimes against cinema. But the runner-up position in my book goes to Revenge of the Sith, the final and most futile attempt from clumsy director and tin-eared writer George Lucas to create a prequel trilogy to match the myth-making spirit of the original Star Wars saga he unleashed in 1977. I'd still watch Sith five times than endure another five minutes of Trans 2. But that's just me. It's your turn, suckmeisters. Weigh in on the ultimate in mega-grossing awfulness. I'll publish the results as soon as we get a clear consensus.

Is it creative envy, status envy, financial envy, or just penis envy, that makes you people rant about a movie that demonstrates just how far out of touch you are ?
Over a month after it's release this one is still going strong, and is on course to be this summer top box office.
WAKE UP!!! Smell the coffee or latte cappuccino and get a grip. We don't want to see movies about people battling terminal diseases, even if they are a great comedian, too many of us face that day in and day out in our real lives. We go to the theater to escape and enjoy, not to relate and relive. The problem with critics today is they think art should imitate life. Well I think art should be the abstract and follow its creator’s path.
There is only one review that I respect and reverence and that is the review of my 8 year old son, who is now 3 months into remission, and truly enjoyed this movie. It had him laughing, crying, cheering, and glued to his seat for the entire movie. I didn’t even have to ask if he liked it when it was over. All he wanted to do was see it again. We watched it 4 times……

scott | July 21, 2009 1:42 PM
Way toooo much creative libertys..this movie looks like someone took 5 seperate movies, added some toilet humor, and then sprinkled endless explosions and created a transformers souffle of CRAP..and to those who like the cast of this movie,,YOU SUCK!! and for the Megan Fox fans, yeah shes hot- but so are the countless millions of chicks on internet porn sites where you can ACTUALLY see T&A..and you don't have to spend $10 to see them.-MORONS!!
scott | July 21, 2009 1:32 PM
Michael Bay- Explosion!! no story line, who cares- Explosion!! No content whatsoever, Explosion!! Terminator meets backugon meets gremlins meets starwars because the writes of this film blow asian boys Explosion!!

I thought Spiderman 3 topped the shit list...but that's just me.
Jethro | July 17, 2009 2:48 AM
I don't care if others see it. I can only speak for myself, and someone would have to pay me to see a Michael Bay film. I still haven't forgotten the giant turd that was Armageddon. Bay deserves to be whipped. Or blown into a million pieces by his pyrotechnics crew. I would definitely pay $10 to see that.
Bullshit | July 15, 2009 5:35 PM
You guys keep posting these inconsequential opinions. Just because you dont like it or think its immature doesnt mean true fans are going to stop watching it. What is your incentive here? Sure it had ameteur scenes with the humping. But give people a break with a different sense of humor than you guys. And the Dark Knight is a great movie. Granted. But it gets boring as hell after a while. I loved the first transformers that one focused less on the humor and more on the action. And for you dumbasses who said that you dont like the first transformers why in the hell are you going to watch the 2nd? Stop trashing other peoples opinions because of your incompetence. Stop saying crap you guys are the ones contributing to the box office earings as much as the fans. So in the end your shit talking is for nothing.

I think that its not that Transformers 2 was bad, its just that people compare it so much to the first one that they act like T2 is the worst movie of all time because it doesn't blow T1 away. Though they could use without all the twin robots, and the leg humping.
Miley | July 8, 2009 8:29 PM
you are retards:
I'm assuming that you are a teen. Strange you would imply that films aimed at teens are inherently stupid; you're basically saying that you think teens are stupid. Transformers 2 is up for judgment like any other film. Why shouldn't we judge Transformers 2? Because you like it? I thought it was stupid.

All you morons who say that Tf2 sucked, this and that, where is your movie?? I want to see how many of you can actually direct a film. All of you need to get a life, move out of your mom's basements or garages, go out and try to put together some form of thought and let's see how you do. IT'S A KID AND TEEN MOVIE PEOPLE!!! If you are over 30 yrs. old, you need to see old people movies like The bucket list or something like that. Please, it's for your own good! I love old people:)
Dani | July 7, 2009 6:36 PM
Transformers 2 wasn't that great. It was just the anticipation that made it so great. :(
The music was worse! I didn't hear any new music, and the 'remixed' scores were horrible! UGH.
He needs a miracle to get anyone to see Transformers 3, but then again, those horny 14 year olds will rush into theatres to see it.
Unknown | July 7, 2009 2:19 AM
This film really sucks, no story, old jokes (what does dog make in this movie, and why you show it at two times...also mini robot like dog make same things in sexual to megan fox leg...öööööö), robot farts (what is that, is it art of cinema no i think fart of cinema...) , also to close action screen (i couldnt understand anything just slow motion i did). Boring.....I worry about that anybody didnt warm me... Still Best film i have ever seen that is batman - the darknight.
Al Goldstein | July 7, 2009 12:33 AM
Dude, you need to get your hands on some porn and stop shelling out $10 to see Megan Fox run in slow motion.
fox | July 6, 2009 3:57 PM
Sith was a great movie, especially compared to most of these films... Batman the exception, which was one of the best movies EVER. But we shouldn't be too critical of the summer blockbuster. So Eat your popcorn, stroke it to Megan Fox, and wait for Prime to kick ass. I loved Transformers when I was a kid... it was for three reasons... 1. cars that turn into badass blasting robots, 2. baddass blasting alians, and 3. it all leads to childhood dreams of seeing a super hot girl naked..non of it is real but it's all real good! Bay captured this fairly well. So if it helps... watch this movie again but imagine yourself at a 10 year old boy with a hardon... see, much better right?

For a person who recommends we take a film class, you have pretty low regard for film criticism. Why can't we critique Transformers 2? Because it was based on a cartoon? Does this mean that there is no difference in quality between films based on cartoons/comic books? I certainly don't agree. Dark Knight, by almost any measure, was a better film than Transformers 2. So what we're trying to do is separate the wheat from the chaff, and Transformers 2 is chaff.
Axcalay | July 5, 2009 6:14 PM
Revenge of the fallen was shit.
If you don't beleive me, then go and watch the 1986 animated movie or any of the original G1 episodes and then watch Bay's 2 Transformers movies.
I rest my case.
tyler | July 4, 2009 11:55 PM
trans 2 was not that bad - if anything michael bay should be credit for taking a shitty scipt, and making and making a slightly less shitty movie. i couldnt have cared less at the end of the movie, and i was praying for devastator to shut up skids and mudflap. i didnt find them offensive, just really f^$&$^$ng annoying.
peter travers you just rambling on about transformers 2 is only bringing more attention to it. dont give it attention it doesnt desserve. and it is not even close to the worse movie of the decade. take a look at some other crappy movies realeased since 2000
monkey see monkey do? | July 4, 2009 3:36 AM
I see a lot of "fitting in" here. Many are talking about the same worst movies. Stop kissing ass and trying to fit in. First, to the ones about T2, hoping I'm not confusing it with Terminator 2, but if you are mentioning that then you are simply expendable. T2 is one of those sequels that's better than the first. Moving on.
Why is it I'm seeing 100's of people having similar opinions. Or are they at all? "Yeah sith, pirates blah blah was worst...." Yeah ok. To this day still, to me, Bug was the worst. That's something you should go see. Goblet of Fire was trash as well. Spider-Man 3 was good, it just was rushed at the ending and stretched at the beginning. The Dark Knight was very nice for me. I walked out satisfied. You people need to remember something about movies: Figure the plot and its originality before you watch it. Like these others say, Transformers altogether is about mechanical aliens that can transform into cars is based off a cartoon. Based! A CARTOON FOR KIDS!! You people are adults and are complaining about a movie meant for kids and teens. It's like a music teacher which teaches classical music that reached 50 goes to see a movie about a hip-hop artist. I'm shocked how moronic people are now and how much more bullshit is coming out from some of you. You're the same kind of people who George Carlin talked/warned about: People who make shit up to try to control others. Go watch the bucket list and get some ideas. If you always assume sequels suck then WHY THE HELL ARE YOU GOING TO WATCH IT IN THE THEATER? Pretty damn dumb to not save money and wait? Must be the same people who go through the drive thru at fast food places getting pissed off cause the line's taking too long when only you've been there for 2 minutes after you've went" i want uhhhhhhh........ uhhhhhh....... uhhhhhhh..... uhhhhhhhh....."
Take a film class. That's my damn advice. It makes you look and watch movies differently in a good way, and especially in a smart way. Common sense: If it's a movie involving teens based from a cartoon... don't watch it. You'll save the world a favor from your bitching and bullshitting.

Toby | July 3, 2009 7:16 PM
I love Transformers, and I think Micheal Bay has some of the most dynamic visuals for cinematography, but Revenge of the Fallen was a tragedy. He made no attempt to show character or tell a good story. No to mention the length of this film was horrendous. Imagine taking a story from an hour long TV show drama and spreading it over a 3 hour timeframe. Boring.
The only good part of the film was seeing Optimus Prime really just annihilating Decepticons left and right. Peter Cullen (voice of Optimus) is the only saving grace of this film.

Big Money:
"Over time youre brain remembers positive images" Yes, Transformers 2 is full of "positive images". Like um, when those two indistinguishable robots, like, beat each other up and stuff. And um, like when that hot chick bent over the cool motorcycle. I'll never forget that. It was almost as good as a Coors Light commercial.
Desi | July 3, 2009 12:06 AM
Big Money:
I'm no Stars Wars fanboy, but comparing Star Wars to Transformers 2 is ridiculous. When Star Wars was released, it looked like no other movie before it. While the CG effects in Transformers are good, they're not revolutionary at all. In fact, they're commonplace, and they're used in a ham fisted manner. Star Wars was a quantum leap forward in terms of special effects. Plus, the story was not only coherent but interesting. And it had some good performances from Alec Guinness and Harrison Ford. You might say it stinks now, but that's only because we've seen countless sci fi films use it as a reference point.
Anonymous | July 2, 2009 11:57 PM
To the poster who says he/she liked Transformers 2 for the cast:
I like Harrison Ford. But the last Indiana Jones movie still stunk. I liked Labeouf in Disturbia. But all he does in Transformers 2 is shout bad dialogue. Megan Fox is very pretty, but that shouldn't mean much if she doesn't do anything besides look pretty. This movie is a turd, even Megan Fox says that the "acting" in this film is irrelevant. Please.
.... | July 2, 2009 9:55 PM
I like transformers 2, probably just because I liked the cast. The plot was kinda confusing though...the first movie was better for that reason (but isn't every sequeled movie?) but otherwise I don't think it "sucked".
And I don't really understand how the Dark knight had "nothing to hate about it" The joker WAS that movie...every scene without him was BORING. Just like how people saw Transformers 2 for just the explosions, people only saw the dark knight for the joker.
BC | July 2, 2009 2:26 PM
I can't say anything for Trans 2, since I havn't seen it yet, but Revenge of the Sith was aweful, and I refuse to even watch Spiderman 3.
Erwin Schrdinger | July 2, 2009 1:59 PM
For the record, "Big Money," saying the original Star Wars movies have no action is complete bull. Go watch them again and tell me there's no action when the Death Star gets blown up, or when Luke is hanging by his fingers from certain death while Darth Vader is standing inches from him. Dumbass.
But that's beside the point.
Die Hard was an action movie. Placing Transformers 2 in the same category as that is the grossest insult imaginable. Let's run a side-by-side comparison, shall we?
Die Hard had a clear-cut plot, uninterrupted by ages and ages of exposition. Yeah, you had to buy a certain amount of BS, but it was absolutely nothing compared to the amount of things that make no sense in TF2. (For example, why would the ancient robots sacrifice themselves to hide the key to the sun-destroying weapon instead of just blowing up the weapon permanently?)
Die Hard was cliché, but in a way that was forgivable because you knew you weren't supposed to take it seriously. It was ludicrous and silly and everyone knew it. Now, while the same could be said for TF2, there's a key difference: Die Hard's 130 minutes were filled predominantly with explosions and Bruce Willis saying various badass things. Transformers 2's 150 minutes (and 20 minutes is a long time to sit through if nothing exciting happens) were filled primarily with talk, and talk, and yet more talk. Oh, and a couple of gigantic robot fights that made it impossible to tell which massive walking pile of scrap metal was beating up which other massive walking pile of scrap metal.
Also, for the record, Die Hard didn't have such hilaaaarious jokes such as two dogs having sex, John Turturro wearing a thong for some inexplicable reason, a robot humping Megan Fox's leg also for some inexplicable reason (...maybe the same reason?), a couple of unbelievable black stereotypes disguised as robots ("Uh, well, we, uh, we don't do too much, uh, readin'."), and on and on. Darn. Too bad for Die Hard.
Oh, and one last thing- from best to worst:
1. The Dark Knight (Really, what was there to hate?)
2. Dead Man's Chest (Again, ridiculous, but it looked amazing... which Transformers did not.)
3. Star Wars III: At Least It's Not Episode I
4: Spider-Man 3 (In which Peter Parker figures out it's not that easy, being bright red and blue... or was that the first two movies?)
5. Transformers 2. Hollywood, please file for a restraining order on Michael Bay.
Big Money | July 1, 2009 11:42 PM
All of you are complete dumbasses. You dont know what you go to see when you watch a movie. You overanalyze movies. AND REMEMBER: Over time youre brain remembers positive images better so you think the original star wars movies were good. If you watch them again they blow like no other and have no action in them.
Optimus Putrid | July 1, 2009 9:33 PM
Even the people who like Transformers 2 concede that they only want to see "shit get blown up". So if that's all you want, then you're easy to please. It doesn't take any talent for someone to film explosions. Actually, this fascination with explosions jibes with a common criticism of Transformers 2 - that it glorifies militarism.
Optimus Putrid | July 1, 2009 9:26 PM
cry: It's not "bigheaded" to have an independent opinion. If you think the measuring stick of a film's quality is box office earnings, you're a sheep. And Transformers 2 sucks. It sucks big time. Go see Star Trek.
cry | July 1, 2009 5:35 PM
im sick of critics and all their big headed bullshit. if tons of people see the movie and like it then a majority of people think its a good movie. movie critics take their jobs way to seriously, in reality a "movie critic" shouldn't be a real job.
EL | July 1, 2009 1:23 PM
"5. The Dark Knight
- Joker was cool otherwise it's friggin' boring..."
Uh, yeah. Heath was awesome. The Joker was sadistic and I loved every minute of it. Bale sucked as Batman,......in both films. There was nothing likable about him. He had me routing for the Joker.
As for Transformers, the first one looks cool in hi-def. The movie itself sucked to me. And Optimus is the only one who looks close to anything I remember as a kid. The "Allspark", or whatever, was lame. What happened to the matrix??!?! Don't plan on seeing Trans 2 either. Action and explosions doesn't equal good movie. Then again, these type films aren't aimed at people like me. They target this ADHD generation.
Beam Me Up Scotty | July 1, 2009 1:00 PM
The dolts who think Transformers 2 is a good action movie need to see the latest Star Trek. Compared to Tranformers 2, Star Trek (another sci-fi popcorn flick) was War and Peace. Seriously, if you thought Transformers 2 was a good action film, you're a retard.
Jason Kurtz | July 1, 2009 12:13 PM
I came into the theater knowing that this Trans 2 movie was directed by the worst director of all fucking time, and with that expectation already underway, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie! I suggest everyone know that Michael Bay is the same guy who did Wild Wild West and The Island, and as long as you take it with a grain of salt, The Trans 2 movie really aint all that bad.
Andie | July 1, 2009 11:56 AM
ahh poor critics.... finally their importance has been highlighted and the money paying moviegoers have proved the point that we want ENTERTAINMENT more than the crap loads "i give it 5 stars""4.5"3.5 etc who the hell cares man... when i paid money in this time of depression i wanted to see things blow up and i loved every single moment of it and if critics wanted a damn story and emotional crap from the movie hire Daniel Day Lewis or someone and make him a robot and make Scorcese direct it. tht should make u critics sleep at night.
Well.... | July 1, 2009 11:27 AM
Another common characteristic of all of these blockbusters is that they are based on source material ranging from 60s, 70s, and early 80s. That may tell us something about what people are looking for in going to see these movies. Personally, from the time that I was five, I have been a fan of all of them: Batman, Spiderman, Star Wars, Pirates of the Carribean (the ride), and, yes, even the Transformer. There is something about the nostalgia of how they made us feel when we were younger that makes us imagine how it would translate to a more advanced medium.
Some of these attempts have been really successful (e.g. the first couple Spiderman movies, a couple of the Batmans, etc.), while other attempts are just made to exploit their viewers' childhood affections to make a buck (the new Star Wars trilogy, the new Indiana Jones, etc.)
While no one is going into Transfomers II looking for an Oscar winner, we are looking for some kind of acknowledgement of the love that we have for the source material. When the bar is set so low (leg humping; stepit fetchit jive talkers; nonsensical plots), we get the idea that the moviemakers do not take the story seriously; that they are just looking to cash in.
I think this is what is drawn so much critism and, perhaps, the polarization that we see on the forum. If you do not feel any connection to the source material, who really cares if the movies any good or not? I saw Aramaggedon and while not the best movie ever, I can respect that it kind of is what it is (Bay wanted to paint his house pink, whatever). On the other hand, with something like Star Wars or Transformers, there feels like something like a sense of betrayal when it looks like the moviemakers don't really even care.
Setarcos4131 | July 1, 2009 11:15 AM
Go KILL yourself Michael BAY...the longest most craptastic movie I've ever seen. hillarious that the F'n ads were more exciting. Someone told me that this Transformers you would be able to see the CGI fight scenes but you can't see sh*T! Michael Bay has ruined what was probably one of the best robot cartoons of all time...Commericalized for chevrolet and the billion other brands of the world...Sad to see that most movies these days just make the content overall "dumbed" down to cater to all audiences...and charge that $9.50!
Manny | July 1, 2009 11:10 AM
I haven't seen Transformers 2 yet but it's obvious that these five movies open well because of their quality predecessors. The first Transformers was stupid too but lots of fun. Star Wars makes money cause it's Star Wars. All of those prequels suck. The first Pirates was only good because of the legend J. Depp. Those sequels not only suck but make no sense at all. And I watch these flicks with real low standards. I don't expect There Will Be Blood every time! What about Spider Man 3? What a disappointment. Not as much as the Matrix Revolutions (the most disappointing piece of crap of all time), but still pretty sucky.
I don't know how Dark Knight made all that money. It's an anomaly.
Kyle | July 1, 2009 10:41 AM
Bay already has Transformers 3 in the works.
wall | July 1, 2009 10:36 AM
The fact that some of you are comparing a royal crapfest like transformers to movies like Dark Night, There Will Be Blood, etc. just blows my mind. Yes Megan Fox is hot but I'd rather just go online and download porn that subject myself to that. I'm through with Mikey Bay. He has no business directing films. Be better off as an action coordinator or something.
Eugene | July 1, 2009 8:15 AM
Lets face it you don't go to see Transformers for the great plot, you go to see shit get blow up and watch megan fox run in slow-motion. Shia is an amazing actor and reminds me of a young Tom Hanks, yes Michael Bay, sucks at plots but for a funny, crazy blowin shit up action movie it makes the list.

Willie (V-Lay) | July 1, 2009 4:26 AM
Just saw it. Man, I was sorely disappointed. The story line had so much potential, and I actually got bored at times watching 10 ton robots fight for the sake of our solar systems future. Everything about the story line uncovering hidden secrets and such was a waste of time, seeing as they decided to fill in elaboration of clues with senseless action scenes that didnt need to be that long. I have never actually expected much from Transformers, or Transformers 2 seeing as though the entire saga was BASED OFF A TOY LINE FROM HASBRO. PEOPLE, COME ONE! IT WAS BASED OFF A TOYLINE, LEAVING SCRIPT WRITERS VULNERABLE TO WRITE WHATEVER THEY SAW FIT FOR A BLOCKBUSTER FORMULA MEGA HIT. ITS NOT LIKE A COMIC MOVIE, WHERE THE WRITERS HAVE SOME SEMBLANCE TO BASE THE CRITERIA ON WITH HISTORY, THEY MAKE IT UP AS THEY GO. Lucas is the same way, EXCEPT HE DOESNT KNOW WHEN TO STOP, AND MAKES GOD AWFUL MOVIES SENSE THE ORIGINAL STAR WARS TRILOGY AND INDIANA JONES SAGA.
When life gives Michael Bay lemons, he makes a blockbuster hit and millions. lol. Face it, he's still directing because his formulas attract people like flies to light. unfortunately, we always walk away with a sore ass and regret of $10 and 2 hours.
Worst to less worse:
1. Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith
2. Transformers 2
3. Spider-Man 3
4. Pirates (THE WHOLE DAMN SAGA)
5. Dark Knight*** actually enjoyed it, MINUS CHRISTIAN BALES WIERD RASPY VOICE CHANGE.

Transformers 2 is for fans and action junkies only, and maybe for those that like watching hot girls on screen. But if you want a quality movie, don't scream your ass off when you see how awful T2 is with storyline and acting. It was only a success because people like action and girls.
Now if someone tried to make a movie that blended quality storyline, witty humour, interesting characters, stunning special effects, realism of emotions, impressive action choreography and a memorable music soundtrack for the film which was well used, then you have your "best film in history". It's an easy job for a quality director - except nobody can be stuffed getting off their asses and doing it.
The Dark Knight I HATED, it was the most overhyped movie I ever watched, and it was only a success because Heath Ledger died and people rushed to cinemas, unconsciously not wanting to be shown as heartless bastards who didn't care that he died, even if they didn't realise it. It was too dark, too evil, too many shit attempts to make it funny, and way too much blood and violence to substitute for a boring and stupid storyline.

Interesting coincidence:
The theme for "Transformers: Rise of the Fallen," Linkin Park's inexplicably popular single "New Divide," has a lot in common with the movie it has come to represent. Here are a few similarities between the two:
1. Linkin Park's songs all sound the same. Michael Bay's movies all sound the same. (Namely, the movies all sound like explosions.)
2. Linkin Park found a formula for writing their "music" and have stuck with it religiously. Michael Bay found a formula for making movies and has yet to deviate from it as well.
3. People who love "New Divide" tend to feel that way because it is by Linkin Park, whom they probably follow unwaveringly due to an incapability to recognize proper musical talent. People who love "Transformers: RotF" tend to do so because it is an action movie, thanks to an incapability to realize that it is a hideously twisted perversion of cinema.
4. Linkin Park's lyrics are clichéd and predictable. The dialogue, what little there is, in "Transformers: RotF" is clichéd and predictable. ("The Fallen... will rise again!"; "Revenge is MINE!"; "I'm not leaving without you!"; et cetera.)
Just a thought.

Film should be an artform. Judging from the films on this list, it makes me sad to say that people hate art. I do think tf2 is the worst film on this list. It was a way too long, mind numbing piece of crap. I don't even think it was a good popcorn flick. The dark knight was a good movie but the hype made it more than what it really was. I say if you liked tf2, fine. I just set my expectations higher for something someone is spending millions of dollars on, but that's my opinion and that's what this is for.

Transformers 2 is great for inducing migraine headaches. Have you had YOUR headache today? Millions of headache suffers can't be wrong. Go see Transformers 2 today at the theater near you!
Miles | June 30, 2009 11:23 PM
Don't you get it:
I wouldn't waste my time and money on seeing Transformers 2. I didn't see Watchmen. "Action" and "talk" don't mean anything if there is no sense of surprise, good acting and a good script. It sounds like Transformers 2 barely even had a script. The latest Star Trek, on the other hand is a good scifi/action movie.
Willie | June 30, 2009 10:57 PM
I find it amusing that the people who get really upset about other people disliking this movie are terrible spellers. Is there a connection? Who can say?
I thought that Transformers was fun, silly and exciting and enjoyed it much more than I expected I would. It is probably the most entertaining film Bay has ever made. I have not seen the sequel, but I assume, based on reviews, that I will probably be as disappointed as most of the reviewers were. That being said--Sith gets my vote as the worst film on this list. And though I haven't seen it, I will still claim it is worse than Transformers 2. It's not only that Sith is so terrible, but that the original Star Wars is so good. There was an expectation involved with the new Star Wars prequel-trilogy that could never be present in a Michael Bay film (at least, for me), as Michael Bay has never made anything that great to begin with (with the exception of Transformers).
Sometimes, though, I enjoy trash--and Michael Bay can make some good trash (Armageddon and The Rock--two of my guilty pleasures)!
In conclusion: Internet threads are funny to read, if also a little infuriating. I guess it helps one to get through them if one is either extremely masochistic or extremely drunk.

Ok, "SteveG" happens to be another prick who can't just leave everyone else alone.
Seriously, on a blog where the poster actually encouraged the readers to comment, and which you apparently read, you have the nerve to criticize everyone else stating their opinions, wasting their time, even. Isn't it futile to insult people with a love for film, when as you said, it is these people who will create greater and better ones when in the film industry?
Even besides that, it is also clear that you would rather not analyze the films that have become massively popular and successful, but would rather justify their relevance based solely on said financial success.
This is obviously my own opinion, but accepting everything that everyone else likes (or dislikes) as that and nothing more or less is plain ignorant. No one else here conforms to being force-fed opinions, and even give reason to why they feel their way about a subject. Losers? I think not. It is those of you who troll blogs and message boards and are pessimistic that are losers. Consider giving your opinion in a more constructive way.
I actually hope that Peter Travers addresses the unrest found on this board. Clearly, whether Michael Bay has created something intelligent or idiotic, he has been able to provide forum for much debate. I may not like it, but I will see this film now, and hopefully be able to contribute equally on it, too.

First couple of Star Wars were great. First couple of Spidey films damn good. First Pirates ride a lot of fun.
The very notion of a war between robots on earth is another nightmarish Mad Max futureless planet E it would be wise to not allow to occur.
I vote against pilot less drones today, and bots tomorrow.
Dark Night was a dark night except when Heath lit up the screen. After that the lights just went out and so did I.

From the Worst to the so-so:
1. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen-- No matter how it is justified as an "action packed flick," it didn't make one lick of sense
2. Pirates of the Caribbean- Dead Man's Chest-- Johnny Depp's worst movie along with the rest of the 'Pirates' Movies
3. Star Wars: Revenge Of The Sith-- somewhat crappy compared to the first ones
4. Spider Man 3-- Not so good like the 1st and 2nd one
*The Dark Knight was great, the way good blockbusters should be. It's good that it got the biggest opening ever.

Hollywood will continue to make trash sequels as long as you continue to buy tickets, popcorn and soda.
Want better movies? Less crap sequels? More originality? Acting? Good movie experiences?
Watch independent film. Take out video from your local library. Boycott crap or it'll come back, and come back, and come back, and come back...

200 million bucks for the sex-starved to try to peek down into Megan Fixit's Foxy chest. It cannot be for the plot, or the ridiculously bad plotting bots gone wild. If Hefner ever offers her a PB layout, it'll have to be a billion bucks for PM of the decade.
MCLT | June 30, 2009 8:58 PM
ok my god ppl you either liked the movie or u you didnt. i personally liked it yes it was a bit to long and yes bay didn't have a lot of successful movies in the past. but i mean what is the point of bullshitting his movies, meanwhile its probablly not going to do any harm to him. the movie was a success and he made a lot of money from it. i came 4 the action. transformers isnt suspose to be just all talking and crap. its suspose to be an action pack movie. have you seen the tv shows?
The_Planeswalker | June 30, 2009 8:54 PM
God all you idiots who hate Transformers 2 don't know shit about the dam series. I loved transformers as a kid (G1) and love them now. My girlfriend loved the movie as well. You people want some stupid love flick or annoying star wars movie go, but dont talk down upon something that was a killer movie and proved to all you non transformer fans that the movie is great. Or I am sure you got some other excuse to why the movie sucks even though its pulling in some major money. There was enough previews out there to give the general audience a clue to what the movie was about. ROBOTS FIGHTING ROBOTS, not some stupid movie where we have to go in great boring detail about love this and I miss this...F That! Oh, and I am sure that Michael Bay is laughing at all you non fan's as well. Guy has talent and it shows..So go back to you Sex and the City and SHUT UP!
StiGuy | June 30, 2009 8:20 PM
Just got back from seeing Transformers and I honestly dont even know what I just saw. It was a mess. But a pretty mess I might add. To put it lightly, Transformers: ROTF was the best looking piece of shit I have ever seen. But you have to give it to Bay, the guy can shoot action like know bodys business. He just cant learn to keep the fucking camera still fot two god damn minutes. Transformers was utter trash.
SteveG | June 30, 2009 6:31 PM
For all you tards out there who has nothing better to do but go the internet and whine about how bad movies are... how about this. Go to school and become a director? and see how well your movie turns out. I bet you anything it's a piece of trash that nobody wants to watch... All the top grossing movies are excellent choices, nearly all of Michael Bay's movie are blockbuster hits worldwide!! And if you think you can do better, by all means go become a director and make one... tell us who you are and we can see if your name ever makes it out there... otherwise STFU losers!!!
Nathan | June 30, 2009 6:25 PM
All of them were god-awful except for The Dark Knight and Pirates. All of the Spiderman movies were terrible. But Michael Bay is a dumbass and keeps on shitting out more atrocities each summer.
Darius | June 30, 2009 6:16 PM
Holy cow people are ridiculous! I am a fan of everything from Dumb and Dumber to P.S. I Love You and I loved this movie. Hilarious, insane CGI and Megan Fox. All of your complaints are unfounded unless you have actually watched the Transformers t.v. show in the past. And yes Spider-man 3 was a big letdown but it happens. I just find it funny how everyone is trying to tear down a movie whose intention was to be very entertaining, nothing more. Let's be real ppl.

Miles:
Ok so your telling me that when you saw watchmen (if you did)the only reason why you liked it was because they spent like 30 minutes of pure borefest talking per character, to explain eachothers past...
im sory but that movie almost made me fall asleep in the theaters because there was more talking and wanting 2 get to know the characters better then there were fighting scenes. dont get me wrong the fights were good! but not worth listening 2 the first hour and a half to two hours of jus talk, it reminded me of Be Cool where its all talk and threats but nothing happend. So i almost left to ask for my money back.
Anyways my point is... Watchmen was a Action movie that got good reviews but talked more then had action.
Now Transformers got bad reviews just because it didnt have as much talk and went straight to the taring off of metal limbs, decapitations, skinning a robot alive (that was sweet!)and all the fireworks we Action movie lovers paid 2 see! HAPPY FORTH OF JULY! *flag waving*

Be careful: Bay has sent his legions online to defend his crappy movie posing as "regular fans" because they have a huge budget to defend. That was the worst piece of garbage since Spiderman 3. It appealed to the stupid in everyone. You dont need to make Citizen Kane, but a good popcorn flick. This was extremely stupid. You feel dumber walking out of it. Only reason it made money is because of the controversy...people wanted to see how bad it was. And it stunk. But at least Bay can pay back his cocaine dealers...
travis aka batlantern | June 30, 2009 4:58 PM
I will be short and to the point there are two that come to my mind. Night at the museum. here is ben stiller sucking like i never knew he could and it made a ton of money. Then we also have Bruce Almighty which lets face it Jim Carrey is loosing his touch and this was the first film to showcase it. They are two comedies that should have never made it out of the gate and yet both have sequels. WHY?
Omari P | June 30, 2009 4:58 PM
I cant see why that movie did so well and yet Bay as well as the movie in general get such a bad rep. It baffles! I mean I am a DIE HARD FAN, I AM A MALE, I LOVE TRANSFORMERS!!!!! My femail friend loved the movie almost as much as me. When optimus died i sat in the theater and cried like a girl. Not even the comedic relief could make me laugh even though it was funny to me. Now im not a stupid person but just cant equate all the negativity with the fact that it did so damn good. You all really don't get what transformers is about if you want a thick story plot and emotional BS. I actually went thinking that it was not going to be as good as the first one but was extremely and happily surprised. This movie is a 100 out of 10 to me so leave Bay and transformers a lone. if you want a emo movie go watch beauty and the beast or some other Disney crap
Bob | June 30, 2009 4:51 PM
When I see articles like this I'm reminded that the movie, "American Beauty," won an Oscar for best picture, where you get to watch a kid videotape a plastic bag floating in the wind and then have him talk about how his heart fills with love...
If that's a "best" picture, I'm glad I'm watching the "worst" pictures. Maybe the critics and other heads of cinema need to get off their high horses. There are going to be 10 best picture nominees this year and Transformers 2 will probably make more money than all of them (combined). I know money isn't everything, but if you have 10 people watch your movie, who cares about how fantastic the plot and acting were.
Kellen | June 30, 2009 4:18 PM
Um...Spiderman 3 is clearly the second worst movie on this list.
1. He cried 1,000 times too many than I wish to see my superheroes cry. Superheroes don't cry. They beat people up when they feel sad or they fight more crime.
2. Emo. Peter. Parker. I know most of us chose to block this part out, it is human nature to do so with painful memories. But Peter Parker's Venom Spiderman did cause him to 'turn emo.' In doing so, he dyed his hair black, created some sort of weird/ zac efron bang situation and dressed in all black. All of this lead up to the emo grand finale of singing and dancing in a club to make Mary Jane jealous; a sequence which made most numb with confusion and hate towards Sam Raimi.
Superheroes don't cry or sing and dance. This one did both in one movie while becoming cartoon evil. FAIL.
BK | June 30, 2009 3:57 PM
I keep reading all these comments from people that this movie was only meant to be entertaining, not some Oscar wannabe. No shit, really?! Look, I don't go to every movie expecting something deep and profound. In fact, I often look forward to movies that are just meant to be fun and entertaining. I don't want all movies to be the same because that would eventually make them very boring.
I did not go into Transformers 2 expecting Citizen Kane or Lawrence of Arabia. Why the hell would I? I went in hoping to at least have a fun time, and on that level, the movie was such a pathetic waste of money and resources. There were so many things wrong with it, and thinking about that ends up giving me a massive migrane.
But me hating the movie doesn't make me a snob anymore than it does Peter Travers. The thing I love about his reviews, whether or not you agree with him, is that he is always frank and never bullshits you about his feelings.
In regards to the big 5 opening weekend movie record holders, the only ones worth a watch are "The Dark Knight" and (despite its laughable dialogue) "Revenge of the Sith."
Blur | June 30, 2009 3:46 PM
Com'on peeps...Are u expecting an award-winning performance from any of the Autobots and Decepticons??? And what plot are u expecting for a movie about ROBOT WARS???
TF2 is a sci-fi/action flick. There is no need for a deep plot in it. The story evolves on good vs evil, robots saving the planet as simple as that period.
TF2 was awesome. I think the worst thing about TF2 is making you all critics out there look HELPLESS. Huh!!! Can't bring the robots in disguise down with negative reviews.
PUNKASS CRITICS... ANY LAST WORDS???

Exactly, you like the fact that this movie goes BANG! yet don't offer any other "positives". You like the film on an instinctual level. You might want to think about what instincts are involved in your "enjoyment" of this movie. I like porn on an instinctual level, but at least I'm honest about why I like it. It gets me off sexually (nothing wrong with that), but it can also be a way of numbing myself from offline experiences and feelings (bad). I would say that Bay's films operate similar to the way porn does. Sorry I grossed everybody out.

ok i use to watch transformwers when i was a kid to see these robot fight not listen to the boring Space crap they talk about...
i agree the human characters didnt play a big role in the movie but if you remember in the begining it was more focused on the Robots and them being on earth.Plus before the movie even came out the actors like Fox said that there is going to be more exsplosions and more robots fighting there by hinting that this movie was going to be more focused on the robots fighting then the human's issues like in the first film.
if i want to get emotionally attached to a movie ill just go watch titanic or something...

Bay's films may be comforting to some (because they engage comfortable moral instincts), but they are not entertaining. Entertainment includes the element of surprise. There is nothing surprising in Bay's movies.

To the people that say 'lighten up!, it's supposed to be ENTERTAINING, not all deep and serious you morons, blah blah'
Here's a thought: you know what's ENTERTAINING in a movie?
- Good characters
- Good dialogue
- A novel and original idea
- etc
Michael Bay films have NONE of these things, therefore they are NOT ENTERTAINING.
Michael Bay is laughing at how stupid and easily amused you are, but you don't even realize it. He thinks you're a drooling idiot who will throw your money at him to be dazed into submission with loud explosions.
Out of these 5 movies, the only ones I've seen is TDK and Sith. I knew the rest would be boring wastes of time, so I never gave them my money.
Miles | June 30, 2009 2:27 PM
I like ice cream. Ice cream doesn't require intelligence in order to like it. The difference between ice cream and Bay's films is that Bay's films appeal to uglier instincts associated with our culture, like the glorification of violence, racism and the objectification of women. And they do so in a way that confuses these instincts with entertainment. Entertainment should be stimulating, not numbing, and certainly not destructive. There is nothing within his films that brings these instincts into relief, so that we can watch ourselves indulging them (as in Dark Knight, for example). Take Pirates of the Carribean - there are points in the film when Depp looks into the camera and seems to be winking at us. I'm not saying Pirates was a great movie, or even a good one, but at least it didn't insult the audience.
Jethro | June 30, 2009 1:59 PM
People who say that Bay's movies are unassailable from a critical view are missing the point. Bay's films should be judged according to whether or not they are entertaining, as they are intended to be (I assume, anyway). I haven't seen Tranformers 2, but I thought Armageddon was a numbing experience. I found myself feeling insulted after about an hour, because I felt like the movie was condescending towards me, the viewer. Bay shows no respect for intelligence at all, it's why his movies feel mean spirited. I mean, I don't buy a ticket to an action movie so somebody can try to sell me a Camaro.
Jethro | June 30, 2009 1:40 PM
All of these movies are bloated, including the overrrated Dark Knight (a decent action movie, nothing more). But Michael Bay takes the prize for shittiest director. His movies are bad to the point of being insulting. I can't believe people pay to see them. Armageddon was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Totally soulless, predictable and corny, with atrocious editing and eardrum shattering sound effects.

The bottom line is that Transformers 2 was the best movie experience i have had since watching Iron Man and The Dark Knight last summer. Transformers 2 was the best movie i have seen so far this year besides Gran Torino and Defiance.
marty mcfly | June 30, 2009 11:45 AM
After watching "The Island", I will never, ever see another Michael Bay film. However, The Dark Knight was a great film, and I don't think Spidey 3 was nearly as bad as everyone thinks. Still, all of these, save the Dark Knight, were let downs. Hollywood needs to start coming up with new material instead of just making pointless sequels.
emp | June 30, 2009 11:27 AM
Wow, that is all i can say. Are you dumb shits the only people who actually went to T2 for a plot line. With that in mind i must assume that you all were not the brightest kids in school and therefore lack the common sense to step out of the way of oncoming traffic.
Travers pull your head out of your ass and clean the shit from your brain. If you could pull your mouth away from the teet of Ebert and have an original thought then maybe the general public wouldn't think of you as an infected douche bag.
T2 can't be worse then Term.2. "My Accent will save the future of human kind" Arnold, that is the top of crap fills just above "There Will be Blood"
So please next time you feel the urge to give your opinion, which in fact is not your opinion but a cheap copy of every critics opinion, don't the general public's I.Q. is decreased every time you open your mouth

ok. Transformers 2 is not perfect. It's not even very good. But it's entertaining and, sometimes, that matters a lot! I had fun watching it (although i wouldn't do it again). Maybe this big success is a mix of a (my)childhood-themed movie, good jokes and megan fox/shia. maybe...You can't compare good movies and entertainig movies. The same way the Academy can chose a very boring-but-good movie, people can chose a lousy-but-fun piece.

I agree that T2 is good, but we're all suppose to be talking about Transformers 2, not Terminator 2, so stop using the wrong abbreviation. I can’t help but read the defensive posts of Trans. 2 and wonder what the average age is of these writers. It's hard to talk to people who enjoy this movie, because they're usually your friends. I mean there are things you can only forgive in this movie if its target audience is eight, and things you can only forgive if it's meant to not be taken seriously, but then there's other parameters we are suppose to accept if it's audience is adults and older male teens, and aspects we have to consider art. It fails all of these things simultaneously, but because it's flashy... I can only equate this to someone in 2000 who was convinced that Creed was the best rock band on Earth. I mean it was hard to argue with those people because the band was selling well and everyone seemed to like them, but there were plenty of people who listened to the same music and said, no this is shit. The difference, I speak to those same people now and they admit they were wrong, so here's to 2020 when everyone will admit that Trans. 2 is awful.

Ok, "Whoever wrote this article...." must be one of the most idiotic people ever. First, he would only have found this article on Peter Travers blog, so he shouldn't be oblivious to whom he is insulting.
Secondly, HE IS A FILM CRITIC. Of course he is going to give his opinion. He is paid to do so, and many of us value his knowledge of films and frank writing style. It is fine if you disagree, but being ignorant about it just shows how juvenile you are.
Lastly, I personally disagree with your assessment of The Dark Knight. Christian Bale actually gives one of the (if not the most) rugged and realistic performances as Batman, remaining true to the original character from the comics. It really is a shame that you and seemingly everyone else can't get past Heath Ledger. Sure, he was great, but his performance has overshadowed the other stellar points and performances. Then again, given the less-than-informed opinions you have stated, I cannot say I am surprised.
As for the films with the biggest openings, I have had the pleasure/misfortune of seeing all but Transformers 2. I didn't expect anything from Revenge of the Sith, and that is pretty much what I got from it. On the other hand, I enjoyed both Pirates of the Caribbean and Spiderman 2, and the fact that both sequels underwhelmed was really hard to accept. Seeing as I was particularly anticipating Dead Man's Chest, I would say that is my biggest disappointment on the list. And to think that future sequels are in the works...
Ryan | June 30, 2009 8:32 AM
Wow.
Some of you really are delusional. I dont need to read a bad review to know when a film is bad, and Transformers 2 is bad.
What is irritating is how good it could truly be with any semblance of decent plot. Yes, kids, we get it... its about robots beating each other up. I'm sorry... Robots need Canes? Teleportation to solve huge location based plot holes? ROBOT HEAVEN? Give me a break.
Dark Knight doesn't even belong in this article. That movie could have been a legit Best Picture nom... TF2 will be collecting dust on shelves in a year.
Hutch | June 30, 2009 8:04 AM
Having read many a bad review about T2, makes me think that the majority of people who saw the movie couldn't give a sh#t what all the so called reviewers have to say.
This is a movie about robots that beat the crap of out of each other, pure and simple! Throw in some comic relief, best special effects to be seen to date, hot chicks and guns, its the perfect action movie!
If you read into anymore than that, then you are a muppet and should not have seen the movie. However, Im sure Mr Bay wont complain taking your money.
Tjeerd | June 30, 2009 7:31 AM
I actually thought Transformers II kicked ass. It's one of the best action movies I've ever seen, though it's true you need to shut down your brain for a little bit. I do know it's not a good film, but that doesn't mean it can't be awesome.
Revenge of the Sith is definitely the worst film of the 5. Pirates comes in second: what was that movie about? Every scene just worked towards a punchline that sucked or a (not) funny face. Spiderman ends third, then Transformers and I found the Dark Knight wasn't a bad fim at all.

I tried to turn off my brain, but the stupidity of Transformers 2 still hurted my brain. It seems to me that only people with a lot of practice not using their brains get to enjoy the movie. So unfair.
HaliGo | June 30, 2009 5:49 AM
trans 2 was so tedious towards the end. i couldn't wait to leave the theatre as soon as it was over. you know it's bad when megan fox running in slow-mo couldn't save the movie. second worst would have to be spiderman 3. the scene when tobey has eyeliner on and dances makes no sense. third would have to be pirates 3. it was way too confusing. then revenge of the sith. i enjoyed it.
DJS | June 30, 2009 5:14 AM
OK Transformers2 was good so was The Dark Knight,Sith was ok, pirates and spidey were let downs I admit but whoever says that TF2 was shit doesnt know a good movie when it punches them in the face.An whoever says it shit..well have you seen it?if so well you obviously have no life
OptimusKicksAss | June 30, 2009 4:21 AM
Transformers 2 was ace, especially the forest fight scene (one of the greatest action sequences I've seen for a long time) and it will be the biggest film this year at the box office, no matter what crap critics come out with about it.
marty | June 30, 2009 3:40 AM
oh come on people, how is Revenge of the Sith worse than Attack of the Clones or even the Phantom Menace, both of which suck beyond words? The acting in Attack of the Clones is some of the worst I've ever seen - hello Hayden!! If not for the genius acting ability of Ewan McGregor, it would be unbeatable for worst film ever.
Fuck you all | June 30, 2009 2:12 AM
Fuck you people get a reality check. Transformers is meant for action and entertainment, it's based on a silly kid cartoon you can't make it into a award winning drama. I for one think all these stupid ass Oscar movies suck ass, like the wrestler sucked balls and slumsog was just fucking stupid. I think critics no awadays should not even have jobs because they fucking suck at what they do. Transformers was awesome!!!!
ADB | June 30, 2009 1:32 AM
Transformers 2 is without a doubt the worst movie I have ever seen, bar none. It was a two and a half hour music video that tries to be a movie. Here is Bay's recipe for success for any wanna-be "Power Director". Give ten people lines to memorize, but not too many. 20 or so should do. Make sure one of your actors is okay with pointlesly seducing the camera. Then in between the 20 or so lines each actor has shoot some slo-mo close up shit with ridiculous music sequences, tonnes of pyrotechnics, and car chase scenes. Oh yeah it is imperative that if this is a sequel your really fuck up any semblance of a story. An Deceptecon whose disguise is a college hottie?
RK | June 30, 2009 12:58 AM
Easy. Transformers 2, Pirates 3, Spider-man 3, and Revenge of the Sith are all rated at number 1 for the worst. It's like comparing pieces of crap. They may look a little different, but at the end of the day they're all crap. Obviously, everyone has a different opinion on the matter, and I can't fault someone for wanting to see crazy action... even if it is in the form of a turd. Dark Knight isn't the best movie ever, but it's on a different level.
Oz | June 30, 2009 12:57 AM
Dribble! All Dribble! You need to go to a movie with realistic expectations. The first movie had the ground-breaking special effects that were awesome, but it wasn't really about the robots. This movie, capitalise on the special effects and make it about the robots.
Did any of you even see the cartoon? It was all about robots fighting and Peter Cullen (Prime)talking down down to whoever his opponent was and rallying his troops. How much truer can it get?
I'd have to say that the suckiest movie on that list is Spider-Man 3, so I agree with you guys on that point, but let's not forget how awful "Titanic" was, and that is the highest grossing film of all time! If you want to see real acting that doesn't get interference from special effects then go watch a play for crying out loud! You people need an education.
Note:If you're a fan, disregard these comments because you are awesome!
Anonymous | June 30, 2009 12:41 AM
Seriously, come on people, you think that transformers 2 was awful? I mean it isn't about story lines and plots! It's about entertainment! You need to get your head out of your butt and think for a second. I agree that trans 2 didn't have a out of this world or deep storyline but everything else was superb! The effects were awesome, it was funny, and it had a hot chick. You may think that it sucked but none of you review movies for a living and you can't say anything. However you are entitled to your own opinion. I'm a 14 year old kid and I can tell you guys just want to go with the crowd and try to sound smart. You can't say it was a bad movie because it made second! And you can't change that. If it was such a bad movie than how come it did that? Here is my list: worst to greatest. 1. Spiderman 3
2. Star wars 3
3. Pirates 2
4. Transformers 2
5. The Dark Knight
SLC | June 30, 2009 12:26 AM
This is easy. Just list the movies you remember the least first. 1.T2 2.SM3 3.PC3 4.ROTS
5.DK. Somebody needs to push the power button on hollywood and reboot.
DJH | June 30, 2009 12:05 AM
You are all so stuck up your own asses its almost funny...None of these movies sucked. Theyre movies about transforming alien robots, pirates, a man with spider powers, and a guy who dresses up as a bat to protect a city...if your looking for something deep and real go watch the damn news...its sad that all you people have to do is come on here and talk shit about some of the highest grossing movies in history.....
J | June 30, 2009 12:00 AM
First of all, I think those that went into the movie wanting an action movie experience have it right - we are not looking for a best picture candidate. First, I have to defend the Star Wars franchise, while there are certain movies in the series that are better than others, they all tell a great story and they have characters that have shown the ability to grow. Looking at it as part of a six movie series and as an individual movie, Revenge does not deserve to be on this list at all. Transformers 2 is an action movie...emphasize action! I liked the special effects, really liked the sound effects, enjoyed the music, and it kept me interested all the way through. Yeah, the writing could have been better. Acting, well, how much can you do with a bunch of robots? It is what it is...a fun movie full of action. I think people need to know when not to over-analyze a movie. The intent of the movie is to entertain...and I think the box office numbers confirm that it entertained. Just as an FYI, of all the movies on the list, my least favorites were either Spider Man 3 or Pirates, but even those were entertaining enough. They were action movies. By the end of Pirates I was starting to feel it was a little long. Enjoy the debate.
Robert | June 29, 2009 11:47 PM
Spider Man 3. By far. As a stand-alone, maybe not. But SM3 had 1 and 2 were both great and set me up for utter dissapointment. Number 3 was boring, poorly written, poorly edited, poorly acted, had an emo spidey, had too much kirsten dunst, made no sense, and had no redeaming value whatsoever. Conversely,
Dead Man's chest sucked, but the second one sucked too, and the first one was good just because of johnny depp. I didnt see until it came out on video.
T2 sucked, but it was over 100 degrees outside and the theater was really cold, so it had that goin for it.
SWIII was the best of the prequels and the Dark Knite was awesome. So, I cant include those on my list.
mike | June 29, 2009 11:23 PM
T2 stank on many different levels (acting, writing, story, directing, respect for cherished landmarks), but I'm interested in which was truly the worst. For me, Shia took the cake. Wow, what a truly terrible actor. Painful. Would have been great material for MST 3000, though... Tom Servo tee off.
VeeCee | June 29, 2009 11:18 PM
Tranformers 2 was a great disappointment. Having loved Transformers when I was younger, I feel Michael Bay was sooooo far off the original feel of Transformers. Yeah I know we aren't talking real meaningful & deep messages here, but still he shallowed it up from it even being a kids cartoon . I was so excited to go & did take my kids also.(They stood in line for 4 hours) But as usual Bay had to throw in uneccesary crass dialog that unfortunatley is hard for little kids to avoid repeating. Yes the movie was entertaining and the effects awesome but as ridiculous as Spider-man 3, Dead Man's Chest and even the Dark tones of the Dark Knight were, I feel more comfortable taking my kids to those. So YES The Action and effects gets an A+ but overall the Dialog and leg humping robots, as well as pants around-the-ankles humor and uber horny college robot/chicks took so much from it that It TOPS the list of WORST EVER! & I hated Dead man's Chest! But Optimus Prime it's not your fault I still love you man!
James | June 29, 2009 11:12 PM
Spider Man 3 is number 2, hands down! The whold scene where Peter Parker danced was painful to watch. How could Sam Raimi take the classic bad-ass black suit and turn it into such a joke!
Also, casting Topher Grace as Venom was HORRIBLE. What a sucky movie. It had such potential. Everyone knew Transformers was going to suck, so people went in with low expectations and some were surprised. But the first two Spiderman movies were good and Spiderman 3 ruined the franchised.
ULTRA MAGNUS | June 29, 2009 10:53 PM
hell yeah, it's my own money!. i can watch anything i believed would make me happy! and I'm satisfied with Trans2. what do you all expect? hard dramas from bumblebee?
Strawberry | June 29, 2009 10:51 PM
What were you expecting? Really it is made for young teens and the kids at heart folks.....The Meagen Fox was in it and my 17 yr old son drooled his head off.Now I drooled when the most awesome car I've ever seen showed up "Bumble Bee that made the outrageous ticket price worth it. My theory has always been if you have nothing good to say why would you even go see a film????
chris | June 29, 2009 10:24 PM
Transformable robots of course it was ridiculus.having said that I loved it .effects were pretty much flawless.it portrayed the us military in a good light you don't see that too often coming from hollywood for an action flic I don't think you could have asked for more . If your going to the movies to see an amazing story maybe you shouldn't be seeing transformers. 1 pirates 2 spiderman 3 dark knight maybe too much ledger hype but the other 2 don't belong on the list
Roman Petrov | June 29, 2009 10:19 PM
Didn't see Revenge of the Fallen nor do I plan to, since the first one wasn't good to begin with. I knew that movie was crappy just from the trailer. Spider-Man 3 was definitely the most disappointing of those five for me, because the second film hit such stratospheric heights. Yes, the Star Wars prequels as a whole may be inferior to the original trilogy, but you cannot discount the fact that they tell a compelling story (hint hint Michael Bay). For me, The Dark Knight is only slightly superior to Revenge of the Sith.
CominUpTHRILLHO | June 29, 2009 10:15 PM
Haven't seen T2 yet, but every opinion that i think matters, pretty well labeled this as the worst piece of garbage ever. Which speaks volumes to how little most of the world cares about substance anymore.
As far as the second worst I think I'd have to say Pirates 3. Once again, an excellent cliffhanger sequel, gives way to a heavy-handed quickly thrown together third movie(a la The Matrix). Spiderman was pretty bad as well.
But as a Star Wars Junkie, I can't put the ROTS in with the rest of these movies. If nothing else the lightsaber battle at the end was enough for me to love it.
Denny from miami florida | June 29, 2009 10:13 PM
what are you all talking about? trasnformers 2 was AWESOME! it was funny, entertaining, amazing special effects, and it had MEGAN FOX!!!!! what the hell is wrong with you all?! if there's any crappy film on this list, it's gotta be star wars or pirates! they sucked!!!!!!!
i think you people are looking too deep into this movie, it's supposed to be entertaining, for kids, funny, and action packed, what were you all expecting? a "tom hanks" type of performance from the two main leading actors? ahhaahahaha, give me a break, all of you need to loosen up! just be glad that transformers didnt beat the dark knight, and the only reason why it didnt beat it was because most people went to watch the dark knight due to heath's death, god rest his soul.
dRew | June 29, 2009 10:12 PM
you guys aee all idiots
Jerry Lundegaard | June 29, 2009 9:27 PM
"Spiderman 3" is the worst of the list because it almost makes the worthy achievements of "Spiderman" and "Spiderman 2" horrible by association (and Raimi's reputation for that matter).
Leo | June 29, 2009 9:21 PM
In my personal opinion I have to say that I personally thought Dead Man's Chest was the worst but thats because i am an action junky and it didn't deliver anything that really intrested me I did however enjoy TDN and T2 as they were so action packed even though in T2 it just seemed like they were trying to hard and not focusing on the core of the storyline.
cody | June 29, 2009 8:35 PM
man u guys are unreal transformers 2 was awsome i loved it i watched with my kid and i thought it was absolutley awsome
Joe | June 29, 2009 7:45 PM
Spider man 3 has to be the worst movie I have ever seen. At times I couldn't even watch it.
2. Transformers 2
3. Pirates
4. Star Wars 3
5. Dark Knight (why is this on the list?)
Brian Terry | June 29, 2009 7:36 PM
First Transformers 2 did NOT suck. It was a really GOOD movie.
DVG | June 29, 2009 7:18 PM
Oh come on you guys are so over the top!!!, reality check Transformers is supposed to be about the action & the robots no ones cares about in depth story lines, the average person just wants to watch some giant robots kick ass and some really CGI...loosen up man. I havent heard one bad thing about it.
SAR | June 29, 2009 7:17 PM
Transformers 2 was brainless entertainment, so I give Bay a little lee-way (not too much tho). Raimi tried too hard to pack too much crap into Spidey 3, and thereby ruined what otherwise could've been a solid movie. Dead Man's Chest ran WAY too long, so by the end I didn't care (and still don't). Lucas, on the other hand, was responsible for ruining one of the most storied movie franchises of all time, culminating in Revenge of the Sith. Even if you suffered through the first 3/4 of the movie waiting for the "birth" of Vader (which was really all anyone cared about anyways), you got some moron in an ill-fitting suit screaming "NOOOOO!"
The Dark Knight shouldn't even be in this list, because it doesn't suck. Shoulda made a Top 4, Travers.
hdbngr63 | June 29, 2009 6:37 PM
Transformers 2 was far and away the worst on the list. However, if I was picking second worst, I'd have to go with Spider-Man 3. Clumsy, overstuffed and too many plot threads crushed my dreams of Spidy 3 matching up to 2, but meddling Sam Raimi is worth more than top form Michael Bay (because there is no such thing).
Maverick | June 29, 2009 4:59 PM
My list from worst to best:
1. Transformers 2
2. Dead Man's Chest
3. Spider-Man 3
4. Star Wars III
5. The Dark Knight
Trans2 is far and away the worst of the worst. Pretty much the top 3 are garbage. I don't care what Travers says, SWIII was a good movie. Does it make up for how bad the other two are? No. But it was a major improvment. Of course I don't even need to say anything about the Dark Knight.
JP | June 29, 2009 4:25 PM
Peter, are you kidding me? You keep talking up "The Dark Knight". OK, nobody's perfect. Then you say "Star Wars: Episode 3" is the second worse on the list that includes some of the most loathesome blockbuster movies in recent history as a "Pirates of the Caribbean" sequel and "Spiderman 3".
Star Wars prequels, while not perfect, did have amazing special effects and action along with a mature storyline that eerily reflected what was going on at the time in America.
Which is heads and shoulders above the hammy philosophical musings of "The Dark Knight". Which is, at best, a screed against existentialist's view about the fallacy of an absolute system. While I won't go as far as saying "The Dark Knight" is the second worse behind "Transformers 2". However, it's not that far behind the lame "Pirates" and "Spiderman" sequels.
Dan S | June 29, 2009 4:12 PM
revenge of the fallin was awful. simply stated
njoymovies | June 29, 2009 3:48 PM
T2 was easily the worst, but Spidey 3 was horrible too. Sith was the best of the prequels, but that's not saying much.
Mike Cook | June 29, 2009 3:39 PM
Transformers 2 was so ludicrous and absurd that I found myself taking joy in that and laughing often while I shook my head at its stupidity. Afterwards my friends and had fun trying to figure out why anything in it happened at all. All that to say, I feel like I got more entertainment for my buck then I did from that loathsome Pirates sequel. So I vote Pirates 2. I would not begrudge anyone from voting for Transformers 2 though.
Jonathan | June 29, 2009 3:34 PM
Without a doubt - Revenge of the Fallen. Easily the worst movie Michael Bay has made....and he puked up Armageddon and Pearl Harbor!
Runner up: Spider-Man 3. It was a huge letdown compared to how good movies 1 & 2 were.
JTC | June 29, 2009 3:27 PM
off the list:
Indiana Jones Crystal Skull and Peter Jackson King Kong. Both long, bloated, and lesser versions of other movies.
