The latest No. 1 movie (a huge $28 million opening weekend) to stink like rancid cheese is Obsessed, a ripoff of Fatal Attraction that will disappear next week in the flames of Wolverine. So why not let it die peacefully without my beating it with a stick? Beyoncé Knowles, that's why. Reviews have been pretty tough on her. Here's one: "When the world’s most overexposed woman finally realizes that she can’t act, the planet will be a better place." Ouch! Some critics claim she ruined the movie. Oh No She Didn't (an earlier and better title for the movie). The screenwriter and director did that. Beyoncé is the least of the problems possessed by Obsessed.
The only fun the movie offers is watching her go all Sasha Fierce on the crazy-ass white office assistant (Ali Larter) trying to steal her man (Idris Elba). “You think you know crazy?" she shouts. "I’ll show you crazy. Try me, bitch!” And onto the catfight. Acting? Not by most definitions, but Beyoncé adds spirit to a movie that has only a desire to recycle clichés. And the audience is clearly buying what she has to sell.
The way I see it, Beyoncé has always handled herself well on screen. In 2002, Knowles played it for laughs (and got them) as Foxxy Cleopatra opposite Mike Myers in Austin Powers in Goldmember. OK, The Fighting Temptations, with Cuba Gooding, Jr., should have been titled Instantly Forgettable. But she showed skills acting (as well as singing) playing the less showy part (Jennifer Hudson had that one) in Dreamgirls. And last year, she aced it as sexy, sassy, druggy R&B singer Etta James in Cadillac Records, holding her own with Oscar winner Adrien Brody (hell, she was better than he was). So am I nuts to think that Beyoncé is shrewdly building a film career and has the talent to sustain it? Are you psyched to see her next move on the big screen or do you think she should just stick to singing?

Beyonce is superb!!! This is practically by best beyonce movie, and the fighting scene, wow, her and ali did a great job. I feel she should get an oscar nomination for this movie. She is triple threat- can sing, can act, can dance. I love her music, especially this sasha fierce album. It seems she is improving everyday, her movies are getting better, so also her music. And to all beyonce haters, why don't y'll just suck it up and admit that she is unique and one of a kind? I know a lot of her haters here in nigeria and they are just crazy. I'm just an old white woman but I liked Obsessed and I think Beyonce is extremely talented. The movie was entertaining and I think she did well in the role. I don't think the movie was trying to be "To Kill a Mockingbird".

Those who said they give "white actors" chance after chance, take J.Timberlake and Madonna for example. We're all pleading to get them off the movie screen. Stick to entertaining via song, please! And she is no Halle Berry or Angelina just waiting for that break through role. Also, Yes, Paris and Britney are overexposed in tabloids. But, Beyonce overexposes herself to get paid for it. I agree with Chris on this. She is talented and she was horrible in "Goldmemeber". She was the reason I hated it so much, but even I can tell she has improved just from looking a the trailers. I'm still planning on seeing it. And another thing Travers comment on it being "a ripoff of Fatal Attraction", so what and whatever. Everyone one is ripping some one off. For example "Curl Intentions" ripped off "Dangerously Liaisons", it's all about how the story is told.

Even the majority of bad reviews, they didn't criticize her performance. Some of those even said that she gave a good performance. I want some more objectivity from this site.

Well, I see a lot of bad to okay white actresses that keep getting chance after chance. I'm sure if you go and look at many respected actors and actresses first few films you'll see that they got much better as time progressed. Yet when a black woman wants to keep trying to gain experience she gets criticized by some. She is told to stop acting. Anyway, Beyonce has shown potential in all her movies, and I believe that she can become a consistently great actress.

She obviously has acting talent as recognized by her Golden Globe nomination, and the fact that BAFTA said that she gave one of the best 15 lead actress performances the year Dreamgirls came out. Also, some critics were saying that she possibly deserved an Oscar nomination for Dreamgirls and even moreso, for Cadillac Records. There were good reviews for her performance in Obsessed like the LA Times, Entertainment Weekly, Eonline, etc...The legendary Liz Smith said that she was good in the movie as well. Not only that, even if most critics didn't like the movie they didn't that Beyonce gave a bad performance. Even in those reviews, some said that Beyonce did well.

Beyonce is a high school graduate like most celebrities. Angelina Jolie, Scarlet Johansson, Keira Knightley and the rest only went to high school as well. Most celebrites are the same in interviews. Jolie only talks about her charitable work because everybody knows she's a man-stealing adulterer. Yet she doesn't get complaints because she's white. Nevertheless, Obsessed will at least be 3rd this week. So it's doing quite well still. It's already exceeded box office expectations so anything it does now is gravy.

Peter why not focus on the positive reviews of Beyonce's acting in this movie. Liz Smith gave the best assessment of this movie, and she thought Beyonce was fabulous in the movie. I read other good reviews of Beyonce's acting in this movie, too. Not to mention, that even if the majority of the critics didn't like the movie. They didn't complain about Beyonce's performance. I saw the movie, unlike some people here, and Beyonce did a really good job. For example, the emotion she showed in the kitchen scene was very palpable and realistic. She very much does have a talent for acting. I believe that she has a huge future ahead of her as an actress if she keeps dedicating herself to it. She is good and can only get better.

The ones that you posted seem like personal attacks against her. Beyonce is a GREAT SINGER, but her acting skills really needs to be worked on. Only reason I went to see the movie was because of the fight scene she has with Ali Larter. Honestly, I think Kelly Rowland can act better than Beyonce to me. But of course Producers and Directors want an HUGE STAR to play the role in a movie to bring in big money. And indeed she did! If, she decides to continue acting she needs to focus on putting more feeling and emotion into the roles she's playing.

I went to see the movie TWICE because I thought it was GREAT. It's definitely a great show for couples...not a family movie. I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline, the actors, and the fresh vibe the movie has bought back to theatres. I loved the soundtracks, very refreshing. To Peter, were you paid off to be the lone voice of positive reviews under the wave of bad reviews crashing on this movie? You've lost credibility when you wrote that Beyonce is better than Oscar winner Adrian Brody. Seriously?
I will say that Beyonce is a talented entertainer, but not when it comes to acting. In every role that she's been in Beyonce has been carried by the talented cast of actors around her. That's that oldest trick in Hollywood.
In closing, I will watch the movie online & judge for myself. The word of mouth from objective moviegoers have stated they should of saved their $$$$ or waited until dvd comes out.
NOTE- I notice that Beyonce fans & marketing team are saturating the message boards trying to give this movie positive buzz saying this movie is great and her acting has improved. When I read the word "hater" & "jealous", that tips off my b.s radar.

You know she can act (look at her role in Etta James)....but maybe she needs to find that role like Angelina Jolie found in Girl Interrupted or Halle Barry found in X-Men....I mean Monster's Ball...;)
Beyonce has a lot of potential...she is young and has a lot of potential to grow. She has obviously mastered the singing...she did great in the snl skit for single ladies with justin (i think its emmy material) and she is finally (thank god!) having somewhat of a un-robotic un practiced answers on talk shows and interviews...
The best is still to come from ms. sasha fierce....
I just hope she is given that chance.
BTW I loved Obsessed....I'm buying that ASAP on Blu Ray!!

I just saw the movie, and it was...ok. I could have saved my $9 and got the DVD on boatleg, but it was a nice night out for me and the hubby. I didn't think Bey was terrible, but her act did seem forced and somewhat unrealistic. I mean, a cat fight in heels? It seems the movie was a big deal because of Bey's name, not because it was a genuinely good movie.

If the movie (or plot) is a bad as you folks say it was, then its the managers fault. Some movie vehicles are so easy, you or I could become stars in them. Afterall, how could have screwed up "Men In Black" in the Smith role or "The Mask" in the Cameron Diaz role.
A movie script could have been found that was cliche and was interesting with a respected cast and Mrs. B would be able to hold her ground in her budding acting career.
Note: I haven't seen the movie.

I really wish that Beyonce would for once step out of the character, "Sasha Fierce," or who ever she thinks she is on stage and or on the big screen. Yes she is beautiful, yes she can sing, but I the acting thing, hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, NO. I wish she would have played the antagonist, or the lady who was OBSESSED with ELBA, that would have taken us all to a whole different level. I attempted to support my girl B during opening weekend of her movie debut, but will wait for any future movies to come out on DVD. Girlfriend don't know that I dressed up, found a babysitter, and used my spare time to come out and support that movie, and I have been truly disappointed.

Beyonce is my girl crush... That said homegirl can't act her ass outta paperbag!!! The role she portrayed in Obsession was more like she was being herself. There wasn't any stertch. I've seen her concerts with Destiny's Child and on her own. Her stage presence is amazing.... she is an entertainer that knows how to put on a show!!! I know she would like to be a triple threat but she seriously need's to take some acting lessons.

Although shes not the best actress she definately isnt the worst. This was probably one of her first films to play a lead role...and she did a hell of a good job! I dont really understand why her natural talent does not relate to the screen. Ive seen her live and she is truly unbelieveable, in voice, in improvisation and in her acting..the stage is really for her...maybe the film thing..is too rehearsed..she is not a rehearsed type girl. She probably would be better on Broadway..she needs the live audience..I still love her and always will!

I don't think she's building a credible film-career at all. Let's look at the factors:
1. Idris Elba
2. no competition at the box office
3. The Soloist got bad reviews
4.this movie wasn't screened for critics
This movie may have opened #1 but it didn't convince anyone she can actually act.

Beyonce, girl this is best movie I've ever seen you in!! It reminded me of a movie on "Lifetime", and me and my mama love movies where the people has you wondering what's next. Finally someone who has realize the same thing about Jennifer Anniston, I just watch Marley and Me and I was wondering what the heck was she doing in that movie. Anybody could have played her part. Owen Wilson did a great job and so did Vince Vaughn, but she is boring has heck. I see why Angeline was able to take brade from her. She is the same in every movie. Now back to Beyoce. Beyonce is beautiful, she can sing her heart out, she writes beautiful songs and she can move, although, her acting skills are not good. She and her father (Manager) need to be realistic, I know they're trying to "Get that Money", but it's ruining her rep.. Try other things than acting, maybe voice animations,cartoons or something, but no more movies. Also, she really needs to speak proper, she is in the lime-light and she is an inspriation for many young women and young girls. Her language and speech are terrible and as she grows older it becomes more embrassing. She should really consider this especially if she wants to be a respectable entertainer in her golden years.

Acting is certainly not this talented beautiful woman's forte. The script was lackluster, but the chemistry between Idris and Beyonce were further apart than vinegar and oil. I'm happy she sold out her concert...that's her gift...acting it's not, But that's ok we should all want to grow and expand ourselves, but people should be honest with us when we are overreaching. Honesty is how we truly evolve, and with folks undesrvingly gassing her up she will never grow. Beyonce should be banned from Hollywood

Obsessed was very well written, the right cast members and all..everyone did a splendid job.. I actually went to the premiere, the audience appeared to love the movie. I too thought it was B's best work yet. No the acting is not award worthy, but it is certainly not bad. Good job Beyonce and all the cast.

First off I am far from a hater. Just want to make that clear I actually love Beyonce, but she just cannot be taken seriously when it comes to acting. She is just an amazing songstress and dancer to me. I did not and will not waste my time going to see the movie. Every musician cannot act there are only a certain few and to just name a couple, Queen Latifah, Ice Cube, Jamie Foxx and more... Beyonce is just not one of those few to me and the more she tries the worse it gets. I think Solange is a much better actress from what I have seen.

The movie was truly horrible. The script and the acting were lousy. The woman might be able to sing and do some comedic work but she can't do dramatic work at all. She'll never get an Oscar for not being able to act - I think they only give them out if you can act! Just accept the fact that the movie was horrible and stop sugar coating it !!!!!

I didn't mind her at all in this film. The plot was horrible but she did the best she could. This movie could of easily been forgotten and not even made more than 10 million like cadillac records but somehow I think the beyonce factor made people want to go see it.
I like that she does both because unlike J.Lo who just gave up...Beyonce has nothing to hold her back. No wonder her and Jay-Z are the wealthiest entertainers on the planet.
I have paid to see all her movies because they actually look good. I don't know if this was the best movie of the week but overall I was entertained.
I don't think she will ever stop until she has that Oscar, Golden Globe, Emmy and the induction into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame...
