There are two films At the Movies this weekend, Observe & Report and Hannah Montana: The Movie. Rolling Stone movie critic Peter Travers tells us that one of these films is worth seeing; the other is instant Scum Bucket material. Guess which one is which.
Let's kick things off with Observe & Report, starring the Judd Apatow All-Stars' starting power forward Seth Rogen. Described by Travers as both a "comedy version of Taxi Driver" and "Seth Rogen: Mall Cop," the film tells the story of a mall security guard in Albuquerque who is in pursuit of a flasher that has startled the department store's make-up counter girl, played by Anna Faris.
While this sounds conventional, there will definitely be many audience members out there who will leave disappointed after not getting the kind of humor they've come to expect from Rogen's turns in Knocked Up and Pineapple Express. It's not for everyone, but, "this is the kind of twisted critic I am, these are the kind of things I like," Travers says. The film was written and directed by Jody Hill, a "certifiable lunatic" who along with actor Danny McBride helped create The Foot Fist Way and the hilarious HBO series Eastbound & Down (which just got re-upped for Season Two, holla.)
Also this week, Miley Cyrus' unbearable Hannah Montana: The Movie joins Nic Cage's Knowing and The Haunting of Connecticut as films that have been dumped into the Scum Bucket based on trailer alone. Travers hasn't seen Hannah the movie, but he has seen Hannah the television show and, let's be honest, that's more than most of us can stomach. Still, in the interest of fairness, Travers will go see Hannah Montana: The Movie this weekend, despite it having 16 songs in it. On a side note, be sure to follow @petertravers on Twitter to have Travers randomly enter your life 140 characters at a time.

Great headline. If your cookie has a bite-sized action and your reader completes the action, I think two things happen. Their self-confidence goes up (which feels good) and their trust in you increases.

Care to explain why?
Mariel! | April 14, 2009 11:39 PM
Nathaniel, John, Peter you are all knobs.
The Hannah movie deserved more than 1 star.
Nathaniel | April 14, 2009 5:56 PM
Man, so all the Hannah Montana fans are skittering out from their rocks to bitch about a review.
Milo | April 14, 2009 8:18 AM
I totally agree that the Peter Travers movie report is just a waste of paper. I skip it tooo b/c I just cannot agree with anything that thing says.
I saw the hannah movie and it was really great (and i'm straight, 25 and I have a doctorate in communication arts). Why does RS even bother...keeping this guy...he should maybe open up a blog but that's as far as I'm willing to read of him....
How about next time you want to rate a disney movie don't.

His review for both movies were so full of crap. I cannot take him anymore...everytime I get the magazine I read the music reviews then skip over to the Billboard countdowns at the end...Peter is just a waste of space and paper for me. His style and taste for movies is something so stupid. Sorry.

I loved Observe and Report...you are so right on the movie.
I was a little confused from your review of the Hannah movie. What did you mean by you were not invited to see it....??? WTF?
My only question here is did this effect your overall experience and review of this movie?
Alii | April 13, 2009 8:38 PM
So what the hell kind of review was that Peter? Your video told me so much about the Observe and Report but skipped out on the already panned Hannah movie.
I'm so dissapointed can I have my four bucks back for this issue.
Mark | April 13, 2009 8:35 PM
Dear Peter,
Did you watch the Hannah film for real? Or did you just say you did and make crap up b/c it looked like you youtubed a few clips from the movie and gave your lame half assed version of what you thought the movie was about...you missed the total message behind the movie....sorry but your review is crap to me!
lordbean | April 13, 2009 8:34 PM
Hey, Mike. Has anyone ever told you that the purpose of the trailer is to give the viewers a clip of the movie so they can decide if it looks crappy or not? Travers, like every human being, made that decision. He then proceeded to tell us he would see it anyway, rather than take the easy way and not review it. So quit complaining.

Dear John,
Mind your own business...your comment should of been deleted b/c it has nothing to do with the movie...but since Peter needs all the help he can get...since we are discovering the truth...he will keep it up...I love RS and I will continue to love the magazine...but this certain reviewer is just ghastly horrible...
I think that his review of the film was just so lazy and spiteful...I also think its b/c he wasn't invited to review it. I just don't like it when people who already have a negative view of the movie go to see movies and then give us a crappy review.
His review gave me less than the trailer did....
Mike | April 13, 2009 8:28 PM
Your video is so odd...you admit that you didn't watch the movie and panned it b4 watching it....wow...that is some real journalism there isn't it?
I'm sorry that you didn't like the movie but your review just seemed so spiteful b/c you were not invited to watch the film.
I thought RS had more sense that to go with a loose cannon like yourself to review this movie.
John | April 13, 2009 2:01 AM
Art,
If your the type of man that enjoyed the Hannah Montana Movie, You are not the type of man that should be reading Rolling Stone. Tiger Beat is usually to the left of Rolling Stone, your better off with that magazine, ya jerk - off.
All the best,
John

1 star for Hannah Montana the movie...really? I really enjoyed it.
I think he skipped the movie and just said it sucked because he can't admit he didn't watch it. His review told me nothing about the movie...which led me to believe he is just hating.
