Okay, this is kind of an epic fail, because Borat and Being John Malkovich DID get academy award nominations. And why the hell would Sean Penn get a nomination for Fast Times? That's not that good. The reason Knocked Up didn't get nominated is because it was up against one of the best lineups of movies in decades, and there was no room for that in there with Juno (possibly the funnier of the two films). Frankly, this is like fanboys saying that The Dark Knight is the best movie ever made in the history of ever just because it was a great comic book movie and those are so rare. Sorry, but this list is very over-the-top and pointless (and for the record, I love Holy Grail too). The whole idea behind this issue is ridiculous! How is David Letterman part of the "New Golden Age of Comedy" when he's been around for nearly two decades (and has been funny for about half that time)?! I mean, at least get Conan or Craig Ferguson. Terrible fail, RS.

THANK GOD...i mean thank peter travers. u know its so rare that critics critique critics and finally someone has launched into a topic i have always been frustrated about. And no matter what these people think is funny, theres no way you can/should overlook the pure genius of some of these movies. if you can find the genius in dramas u can find the genius in comedies. so why overlook them? this is something ive always hated about the oscars so i hope travers video somehow makes its way to those old farts' ears.

As a comedy fan, I'm with you all the way on this. What's ironic is that comedy is harder than drama to pull off. Anyone can come up with a tearful, suspenseful, dramatic situation that moves people. Comedy is more subjective. What's funny to one person is complete silliness to another.
I also agree with all your Oscar snubs except for "Borat". That was a sloppily made film with very few laughs. It got tremendously overhyped. In a couple more years, people will watch it again and go wonder why they thought it was so funny.
