I agree with you that Speed Racer is a visual powerhouse, but there is more here than what you are seeing. If you did watch the original Speed Racer cartoon, you will automatically know that this is amazingly casted. The second thing is the Wachowski Brothers are huge anime fans, and if you were one too you would know practically all the fight scenes in The Matrix were ripped off from Ghost in the Shell. So doing this film is no surprise, and quite frankly I am glad they did. The storyline was decent and the film stood true to the cartoon, thus making Speed Racer a pretty damn good movie.

Obrigado, Peter Travers, for your review of Redbelt, David Mamet's new film, in this space last week. Redbelt opened where I live this weekend, and I went to see it. Hats off to Mamet for choosing the supremely talented Chiwetel Ejiofor, who carried the film, for the lead. My mother is Brazilian, so it was great to hear her native language in the film's dialogue and music. Brazilian actress Alice Braga also made an impression. I'm a huge fan of The Spanish Prisoner, and Redbelt's twists and turns were a thrill indeed.

I agree. A stoner film even if you're not a smoker. Saw it tonight and was just half-conscience and watched all the bright cheery colors float by. It was kinda crazy like that.
