I'd say it's a two way tie between Daniel Day Lewis and Tommy Lee Jones if it was up to me!!

While I haven't seen'No Country For Old Men'yet,I've always liked the movies of Tommy Lee Jones;and I rented'There will Be Blood'from the library and he does a very good job as Daniel Plainview;one part visionary;one part hustler;one part sinner and the other part
lonely soul looking for redemption!!

Either of them should win it!!They deserve it!!

I think Daniel Day-Lewis will win. He obviously gave one of, if not the best, performances of the year. I always love his work and he deserves a second Oscar!!!!!!!

No question, Day-Lewis' performance is on par with De Niro's Jake La Motta. And he's such a soft-spoken, sensitive individual. It just makes his screen work all the more extraordinary.

Daniel Day-Lewis absolutely deserves to receive for a second time what he called in his My Left Foot acceptance speech "the makings for one hell of a weekend in Dublin." It's great, though, to see the support for Viggo Mortensen. Until I saw There Will Be Blood, I firmly believed Mortensen gave the performance of the year. I applaud Mortensen's nomination in the Best Actor category. Mortensen's performance, like Day-Lewis', will stand the test of time.

I totally agree DDL will and should win. There were a few times during the film when his voice reminded me of the low growl of a lion and truly freaked me out.

However, I do have a soft spot for Viggo M. I thought he was amazing in Eastern Promises (which I just recently saw) and was even more impressed when I was watching the DVD extras and he explains how he went to Russia, talked to people in villages and researched the history behind tattoos in Russian (specifically mob) culture. That gave me a whole new level of respect for him as an actor.

If DDL doesn't win...i think it'll ruin the Academy's reputation.

There's obviously no doubt Daniel Day-Lewis will win the Oscar. If they don't choose him, there'd likely be an uproar from the film community. And I admit I was one of the those who was not totally enamoured by There Will Be Blood - but his performance was spectacular. If he weren't in the race, I'd like to see Viggo Mortensen win. His accent was brilliant, and the intense brutality of the shower fight scene alone is one of the greatest moments in film this year. Great subtext.

These are all fantastic performances. But Daniel Day-Lewis has triumphed. I could feel the stubble of Daniel Plainview's face rub against my arm. And I had to wipe my face after he drank up the milkshake. This is a movie made for the theater. Imagine 'Citizen Kane' meets 'Giant' meets 'Shane' meets 'The Shining'. Barbaric and Ironic, you would lose out not seeing this accomplishment on the big screen.
