The strategy of the Era of Rove has worked for a long time — but now, suddenly, things are different. Not only does the torch-bearing evangelical Colorado of Ted Haggard and James Dobson appear poised to turn its nine electoral votes blue for a nonwhite presidential candidate, but the congressional seat belonging to one of America's most celebrated gay-bashers in this once-impregnable Republican stronghold is also up for grabs. Has there been a sea change in the electorate? Is there a place on the American map where you can actually see the country outgrowing the politics of bigotry?

Do you think he will ascend the throne in January? I believe there are still a number of unhappy voters out there. One way or the other it will be a first in American politics.

Hook a suspect up to a polygraph machine & ask very carefully yes/no questions; biological responses should give interigators the truth they need minus the crime of torture. Sharper minds don't have to break the law to get the bad guys.

Would absolutely love for Musgrave to flame out next week. Truly one of the most hateful (and stupid) people ever elected to congress.

I agree with Chuck, the point of a blog isn't to re-post the articles you write for the RS ... the point is to give your feckless readers daily content to keep us entertained at our office desks, while saving you, the writer, the effort of composing or proofreading a complete journalistic article. To recap, this is total bullshit - if you have to, Taibbi, take a page out of Tim Dickinson's playbook and just post a single sentence and a link to whatever story you saw on some other blog 5 minutes ago. And tell the IT guy to add a link to your blog to the menu with the rest of the RS.com blogs. Because right now, it's totally impossible to navigate here from the RS.com frontpage.

Matt, Lord, I love your blog. I know you hate to be a "blogger" and all, but God we need more of your truth. John Lennon said Gimmie Some Truth, Chuck says Gimmie Some Taibbi!!!

Please please keep up the good work!

As usual, you have nailed the importance of this election. Pretty much a referendum on what America purports to be. We will see how she fairs. Good article.

I read and I understand.... Are we long lost brothers, MATT?

I just hope Obama doesn't turn out to be Clinton 2.0. As much as McCain will inevitably be Bush 2.0. Who ever wins.

I hated the Clinton Administration! Clinton could have done so much more if he would have kept his you know what in his pants.

Hopefully Obama is REALLY the real deal! You know CHANGE, real change.
