Fleetwood Mac Booked Through May

Twenty-nine more gigs have been added to Fleetwood Mac's hotly anticipated "Unleashed" tour, bringing the total number of announced shows to forty-four.

It's the Mac's first tour in nearly five years, and when we spoke with Stevie Nicks about it a couple weeks ago, she could hardly contain herself.

The thought of hitting the road with Mick, John and Lindsey, she says, "Still gives me goose bumps and it still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up."

Another Phish Date

January 7, 2009 11:20 AM

On top of the three shows Phish announced at Virginia's Hampton Coliseum — going down in early March — details are slowly emerging about their rumored summer tour.

A fourth date has been added, with Phish booked to play the Post-Gazette Pavilion, in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania, on June 18th.

While those are the only four shows that have been announced officially, it's pretty much a done deal that Phish will play the Bonnaroo Festival in June.

Are you psyched for fresh Phish?

UPDATE: Since we posted this story this morning, LiveNation has removed the Pennsylvania show from their site. But that, of course, doesn't mean it's not happening! The date, June 18th, falls four days after the conclusion of Bonnaroo.

UPDATE (Jan. 8, 2009): Billboard has posted a bunch of "confirmed" Phish tour dates, beginning June 4 & 5 at Jones Beach in Wantagh, NY. There's a big hole in the shedule between June 9 and June 16, when the Bonnaroo festival hits. None of the dates have been posted on Phish's website. Click here for more info.

Van Morrison Takes Astral Weeks Back To New York

January 7, 2009 10:58 AM

We told you this might happen, and we're so psyched that it's true.

Last November, Van Morrison performed Astral Weeks at the Hollywood Bowl for the first time ever. It broke our heart that we had to miss that gig.

Now Morrison has announced two gigs New York City in which he promises Astral Weeks in its entirety. Of course, Manhattan where he originally recorded his masterpiece more than forty years ago. Two shows have been booked at the Theater at Madison Square Garden for February 27th and 28th.

Also, on February 10th, Morrison will release Astral Weeks: Live at the Hollywood Bowl, which documents those amazing shows. A DVD will be released later this year.

Tracks include:

"Astral Weeks/I Believe I've Transcended"
"Beside You"
"Sweet Thing"
"Slim Slow Slider/I Start Breaking Down"
"The Way That Young Lovers Do"
"Ballerina"
"Cyprus Avenue/You Came Walking Down"
"Madame George"

"These Hollywood Bowl concerts gave me a welcome opportunity to perform these songs the way I originally intended them to be," says Van, who admits that only one rehearsal was held before the Bowl gigs. "There are certain dynamics you can get in live recordings that you just cannot get in a recording studio. I love listening to live recordings. You get the whole thing right there, unabridged, raw and in the moment. There was a distinct alchemy happening on that stage in Hollywood. I felt it."

We wanna feel it!

Fleetwood Mac Is Back!

December 3, 2008 5:06 PM

Returning to the road for the first time in five long years, Fleetwood Mac has just announced preliminary dates for a U.S. tour, kicking off in March of '09!

Not too long ago we chatted with Mac magician Lindsey Buckingham, and he told us about their plans for the tour and and a new Mac studio album.

"We are going to begin rehearsal sometime in the middle of January for some tour dates," he tells us. "We are also going to use that time as hang time so we can exchange some musical ideas and loosen up the whole thing. Then we'll go in and make an album, once we’re done with that part of the tour.”

We love them, and thus we are happy.

Pretenders Plot First U.S. Tour in Five Years

December 2, 2008 2:45 PM

In support of their kick-ass album, Break Up The Concrete, the Pretenders will be hitting the road this January for their first tour since 2003.

Chrissie Hynde gave the S.S. her thoughts on touring:

"I really like touring and we'd been touring every year [up to '03]," she says. "But it was starting to turn into a greatest hits package because we didn't have anything new out. That was frustrating. It's not really the thing to go out and just keep playing the old stuff. Frankly, it was embarrassing that I hadn't had a record out in so long. It's awful being famous for nothing. It's bad enough just being famous. You have to substantiate it with something.

"I had to wait for the band to be right," she continued. "I had to make some changes in the band. I had to get the vibe, and I had to have something to talk about."

Sounds good...

Black Keys' Auerbach Goes Solo

November 17, 2008 10:47 AM

Photo:Walter/Getty

Black Keys' guitarist/singer Dan Auerbach is set to unleash a 14-track solo album, Keep It Hid, on February 10th. Auerbach will tour in support of the project, with Texas newcomers Hacienda serving as his backing band and opening act for the 11-date run.

The album includes cameos from some of Auerbach's friends and family. His father Chuck wrote the song "Whispered Words," uncle James Quine sings and plays guitar on "Street Walkin'" and protege Jessica Lea Mayfield accompanies on "When the Night Comes."

"It's all over the map," Auerbach told Billboard. "I write all the songs for the Black Keys, so some of them sound like they could be Black Keys songs. But some songs are just acoustic guitar. There's some real dark tunes and some psychedelic rumbas. It's all that stuff I grew up playing -- all those bluegrass harmonies. I experimented a little bit with instrumentation."

Auerbach solo dates:

Feb. 28 - 9:30 Club - Washington, D.C.
Mar. 01 - Paradise - Boston, MA
Mar. 02 - Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn, NY
Mar. 03 - Bowery Ballroom - New York, NY
Mar. 05 - Beachland Ballroom - Cleveland, OH
Mar. 06 - Metro - Chicago, IL
Mar. 07 - First Avenue - Minneapolis, MN
Mar. 10 - Showbox - Seattle, WA
Mar. 11 - Wonder Ballroom - Portland, OR
Mar. 13 - Bimbo's - San Francisco
Mar. 14 - El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles, CA
