Kid Rock: "Rehab Huh?"

January 12, 2009 12:03 PM

In a recent chat with Q magazine, Kid Rock addresses rehab.

"I do not understand rehab," he says. "If it works for people then God bless them. People have different personalities. Some people do a line of cocaine and start selling their TVs and their guitar and everything else. Other people do it, have a fun night and go about their business."

(Seriously, if all the coke in the world were as quality as Rock's, we'd be hittin' that shit like Scarface!)

He also commented on the mandatory anger management therapy he received after a fight at an Atlanta Waffle House last year. In the interview, Rock said, "After the first session the lady was like, 'Baby, you don't seem that angry at all. You seem like a really nice guy.'

"I go, 'That's the way I feel too. I think that the judge made a mistake when he sentenced me. I think he probably should have sent me to Alcoholics Anonymous because I do have a drinking problem.'
"

He's right again!

"You Eff Up My Life"

January 12, 2009 10:29 AM

Here's some useless trivia shizz...

Songwriter Joseph Brooks -- who penned "You Light Up My Life," an Oscar-winning hit for Debbie Boone -- is a suspect in a string of sexual assaults. The 70-year-old Brooks allegedly lured victims to his house by posting ads on Craigslist looking for actresses to be in his next film. The victims say once they were at his pad, he drugged and sexually assaulted them.

The first incident took place at the legendary Carlyle Hotel in 2006, with the rest occurring in Brooks' Manhattan apartment in May 2007 and March 2008.

Brooks faces two rape charges, a sodomy charge and two sexual assault charges.

Not cool.

What a bastard (allegedly)!

Two douchewads broke into Gregg Allman's Georgia home yesterday, swiping the singer's collection of silver dollars, a pistol and some unreleased live recordings.

Police caught up with the two thieves and were able to recover everything except for the gun. They were charged with burglary.

The Allman Brothers Band are gearing up for their ten-date run in New York City.

Zeppelin Pushes On??

January 7, 2009 11:31 AM

Led Zeppelin -- or whatever the hell you want to call it without Robert Plant -- are indeed pushing forward with plans to record and tour again.

According to a report on NME, Jimmy Page's manager is quoted as saying that the band is continuing a search to find a stand-in for Plant.

"They decided that if they could find a singer that they thought would fit their bill -- whatever their bill was at this stage in their career -- that they'd make a record and go on tour," says Peter Mensch, Page's man. "John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page enjoy playing with each other, and Jason Bonham is a really good drummer, so why not? We just need to find a singer."

Mensch wouldn't comment about rumors that Chris Cornell or Steven Tyler were in the running.

"It's gonna be a long and difficult process," says Mensch. "And we're not soliciting people! So don't call me about it!"

What do you think about Zeppelin carrying on without Plant?

Good times or bad times?

UPDATE: MusicRadar spoke with Peter Mensch, Jimmy Page's manager, this morning, and he vehemently denied ANY plans for a Zeppelin tour or album. "Led Zeppelin are over!" he said. "If you didn't see them in 2007, you missed them. It's done. I can't be any clearer than that."

He also confirmed that some singers were auditioned last fall when Robert Plant declined to rejoin the band, but none of the candidates fit. "They tried out a few singers, but no one worked out," said Mensch. "That was it. The whole thing is completely over now. There are absolutely no plans for them to continue. Zero. Frankly, I wish everybody would stop talking about it."

Tough Times for Ron Wood

January 6, 2009 10:49 AM

Rolling Stone Ron Wood is not starting 2009 on the good foot.

We were perusing the Post this morning when we came across a story by gossip maven Cindy Adams about Ron Wood's financial troubles.

Huh? He's got to be filthy rich, right?

Well, the alleged money woes are reportedly stemming from his sordid affair with Russian cocktail waitress Ekaterina Ivanova. (Various press reports estimate her age to be somewhere between 18 and 21.)

Last summer Wood met Ivanova at a London bar, and they apparently hit it off. But when Wood entered rehab in July, it was speculated that the dalliance was over, and that Wood might reconcile with his wife, Jo. But not so. In October, Wood moved out of his family's home. The Post reports, "Jo now figures better a divorce than continued humiliation." And it seems she's got the ammo to take Wood to the cleaners.

With Wood's funds allegedly running low, and no Rolling Stones tour in the works, Wood has been banking on a Faces reunion.

Perfect!

Problem is that when the Faces -- Rod Stewart, Ian McLagan, Kenney Jones and Wood -- reunited recently for a rehearsal, the music sounded great but the vibes were bad. The members apparently can't get along, resulting in no tour.

As if things couldn't get any worse, his former manager, Nick Cowan, has just written a tell-all book called Fifty Teabags and a Bottle of Rum. The book follows Wood's exploits and features plenty of sex, drugs and rock & roll. It also details Wood's affairs over the years, including a one-nighter with model Kelly LeBrock. Cowan had been Wood's manager for 22 years, keeping all his secrets hush-hush, but when Wood replaced him with his wife's son, James, Cowan spilled the beans.

Sad.

Animal Collective Fan Gets Crafty

December 18, 2008 10:58 AM

Watch out, there are some sneaky little bitches out there.

Here's the story: In January, Baltimore-based noise-rockers Animal Collective will release Merriweather Post Pavilion, their highly anticipated follow-up to 2007's genius Strawberry Jam.

Two tracks from Merriweather Post Pavilion -- "My Girls" and "Brothersport" -- have been leaked onto the internet, making the band very sad.

But the tease of those two tracks was just too much for one Animal Collective fan, who hacked into the band's email account to send out the following message. He or she impersonated the Collective's Brian Weitz, AKA Geologist:

"it has come to my attention that 2 full length tracks off of our upcoming album, merriweather post pavilion have surfaced online. david, noah, and I please ask that someone assist us and leak all of the remaining tracks on the album.

the album is intended to be heard as a whole, and nothing bothers us more than individual tracks leaking and ruining the the overall album experience

-brian Geologist"

Lesson: Even if you're a fucking moron, you just might be smart enough to hack into somebody's email account.

Stevie Nicks Talks Fleetwood Mac + Sheryl Crow Drama!!!!!!

December 12, 2008 11:50 AM

Photo: Miller/Getty

Last night we had the extreme pleasure of chatting with Stevie Nicks, who in January will release a DVD titled Live In Chicago, featuring takes of many of her greatest hits with Fleetwood Mac and her stellar solo career. It's truly awesome.

In conjunction, Nicks is releasing a companion CD titled The Soundstage Sessions, offering live renditions of her lesser-performed cuts like "Beauty and the Beast," "Fall from Grace," and her covers of Dave Matthews Band's "Crash" and Bonnie Raitt's "Circle Dance."

As one of our greatest singers ever -- and a rock star of the highest order -- Stevie couldn't have been sweeter, funnier or more down to earth.

We talked about her recent 60th birthday (she took her mom and her friends to see a production of the play Wicked, of course), the upcoming Fleetwood Mac tour (she can't wait), as well as the drama surrounding Sheryl Crow's involvement in the Mac.

As you may remember, last March Crow announced that she would be joining Mac, saying, "We definitely have plans for collaborating in the future, and we'll see what happens. I think that's going to be next year."

Although it appears to fly in the face of what Lindsey Buckingham told us, Stevie told us that Crow was, in fact, invited to go on the Mac's first trek in nearly five years. (Look for the rest of the interview in the next issue of Rolling Stone.)

Heres what Stevie had to say:

"What happened is that it was absolutely discussed and [Sheryl] absolutely was invited to join the band. The reason was I wanted another woman in the band, because I missed Christine so bad that it was just really hard for me to be in the boys club. What happened was, really... everybody thinks it was just because Sheryl got really excited and told the world about it a little bit too early. That wasn't what it was. I started explaining to Sheryl what it was going to be like to be in this band. It's all-encompassing, and for somebody with a new baby...for a woman in her forties with a new baby, and as loving and as nurturing as Sheryl Crow is... if you know her, you know that she just is a caretaker. We had a conversation at the beginning of this year. I said, 'I rented a studio,' and it was around Mother's Day. 'You need to come in and we need to play music for two days, because we should. It's not an audition for us, it's not an audition for you, it's just us to play music. We'll set it all up and we'll be on a stage and have great monitors, and all your pianos and everything will be set up. We're just going to rock for two days, go out to dinner and hang out. We need to do that.'

She had all these really important plans, because it was her first Mother’s Day, and she was also on the road, so she had to escape out of that for three days. I said, 'You have to do it, you have to come.' That was on a Thursday. She said to me, 'Are you trying to talk me out of this by telling me how difficult this is going to be for me?' I said, 'I'm not. I'm just being truthful with you. Imagine this, when we went on the Say You Will tour,  we thought it was forty shows. It was 135 shows. Nobody knew that, but that’s what it was. And that was for an unhappy tour.'

'So it is kind of like joining the army. Personally, it's going to be very hard for you. I'm not trying to talk you out of it, I'm just trying to let you know what it is.' So she said, 'Okay, I'm going to think about it,' and she called us back two days later. We were in the car, on speaker, and she said, 'I think I'm going to have to pass.'

I said, 'Honey, as Stevie, your friend,' who spent three solid years with her working on Trouble in Shangri-La in ’98, ’99, and 2000, I said, 'I think you're making the right decision. As Stevie Nicks, I'm disappointed. But as your friend, I think this is the right decision.'

Sheryl Crow passed on Fleetwood Mac, and I want that out there, because people seem to be getting different stories about this. That’s what happened."

There you have it!!!

Bounty Huntin' DMX

DMX is on the lam!

A warrant was issued for his arrest after missing a court appearance on Friday for drug charges, identity theft and animal cruelty in Maricopa County, Arizona.

Now the Maricopa County Sheriff's department is asking for your help.

Snitchin' is for bitches, but here's one reason to dime out DMX: $5,000. That's what the cops will be donating to the person who gives information leading to D's capture and arrest.

For a while DMX was the hottest rapper around -- between 1998 and 2003 he released five straight Number One albums, selling more than 15 million copies.

Now he's on the run!

UPDATE: They got him! FBI agents found DMX hiding in producer Scott Storch's mansion off the coast of Florida on Palm Island. The arrest was made yesterday afternoon, and now D is sitting behind bars in Miami-Dade County Jail. A woman tipped off police after hearing about the cash reward.

Jeff Beck Slams Zeppelin Reunion

December 8, 2008 11:57 AM

Photo: Katopodis/Getty

Jeff Beck has publicly slammed  members of Led Zeppelin for even discussing a tour without Robert Plant.

Beck -- a former bandmate of Jimmy Page in the Yardbirds -- said "I really don't think it's a good idea."

Amen to that.

"I was there at the one-off show at the O2 Arena [last December] and it was fantastic," said Beck. "But I think they should just leave it there. They will have been offered loads of money and it'll be tempting but that's not a good enough reason to me.

"It would be different if they all wanted to do it and record new material but that's not the case."

Plant put rumors of a full Zeppelin reunion tour to rest in September when he said he has "no intention whatsoever of touring with anyone for at least the next two years."

What do you think? Should JPJ and Page go on without Plant?

Scott Weiland Drunk Again

December 8, 2008 10:37 AM

Photo: Getty

The Daily News is reporting this morning that Scott Weiland has fallen off the wagon. Despite the fact that he was in the midst of a court-ordered, 18-month rehab program (stemming from an arrest in 2007) the paper said Weiland showed up to his solo gig at the Fillmore in New York on Friday night, "noticeably drunk."

Weiland hit the stage an hour late, and when the audience was not booing him or shouting out STP songs, they were commenting on how "drunk and sloppy" he was.

The singer got the same reception at the Borgata in Atlantic City on Sunday night. Once again, he took to the stage late (40 minutes) and refused to play any STP songs, except "Interstate Love Song."

Weiland just released his second solo effort, Happy in Galoshes, to mixed reviews. (Meaning, it sucks balls).
