Paul and Ringo, Together Again

April 6, 2009 11:23 AM

Prayers were answered over the weekend when ex-Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr reunited on stage for the first time the George Harrison tribute concert in 2002. McCartney and Starr performed for the "Change Begins Within" charity concert at Radio City Music Hall on Saturday evening. The event was an all-star benefit concert for the David Lynch Foundation, which teaches  meditation techniques to troubled kids.

McCartney called Starr to the stage using his Sgt. Peppers character name, Billy Shears, before busting into "A Little Help from my Friends." Starr then took his throne behind the drum kit and worked through "Cosmically Conscious," a song McCartney had written when the Beatles were visiting India in 1968. The pair were joined by  Sheryl Crow, Eddie Vedder, Donovan, and Mike Love for their closer, "I Saw Her Standing There."

Check it out. It was a beautiful thing.

BTW

The drummer for Paul is fucking sick.

Besides the Paul and Ringo reunion (first Beatles reunion since 1970), Ben Harper and Eddie Vedder stole the show. Harper and his new band played for almost everyone, including Ringo. Harper and Vedder also covered Queen's "Under Pressure", which was just fucking awesome.

I was there. When Paul announced that "Billy Sheers" was going to join him, it was like nothing I have ever seen. 45-60 year old men and women jumping and screaming like they were 12 year old girls at a Jonas Brothers concert.

One of the top 10 experiences of my life (thus far).
