Check out Billy Corgan in this commercial for the recent TNA pay-per-view wrestling event, Lockdown.
Warning: fans of the Pumpkins' '95 hit "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" may want to avoid watching this clip, as Corgan defiles the spirit of the song to promote a steel-cage match.
Is anything sacred?
Does Billy Corgan have the worst instincts of any musician on the planet?
What is the matter with him?

Corgan has allowed TNA Wrestling to use his songs before. This is nothing new except he is actually making an appeareance as opposed to just having his songs on display.
And to all the wrestling haters out there...Shit on wrestling all you want, but also shit on movies and television since those mediums are "fake" as well.
yeshewas | May 1, 2009 12:16 PM
"wasnt corgan one of those people that ranted against music being used for advertisment?"
Yes he was. That is what makes this so bad. Billy lost me when Jimmy left the band and he still is using Smashing Pumpkins as the name. Time to start a new band Billy and move on. Otherwise you will just ruin the legacy that you created.
BillysRetirementHome | April 30, 2009 2:45 PM
Billy,
You are an egotistical prick who is totally out of touch with your fans. The pumpkins have been over for a long time. You should have let the retirement be. People would have thought a lot more of you if you did.
Unfortunately, the Pumpkins seemed to start out well and get progressively worse. So, in that sense you were a really progressive person.
Enough already. Call it day.
Crooked ice cube | April 30, 2009 2:54 AM
I agree with Erik B., who cares if he uses an SP song in a pro-wrestling ad? It's HIS music, not you people's, so stop getting so high-strung over it. Besides, Billy Corgan isn't God, and SP's music isn't the greatest masterpiece of all time, so why the fury? Records don't sell like they used to, so something has to pay the bills...

The Smashing Pumpkins represent a time capsule of my teenage years for me. Too bad they are terrible now. But hey I've worked at fast food restaurants and amusement parks and humiliated myself for a few dollars here and there. I bet he was paid well for that little spectacle. Good for him.
spunky Lasorda | April 24, 2009 9:07 PM
RE MT IF CORGAN ISN'T HAWKING DOVE FRESH BURST NECTARINE BODY WASH YET IT'S JUST A MATTER OF TIME
BEFORE HE DOES. GET YOUR SELL OUTS STRAIGHT !!!!!!!!!
MCIS | April 24, 2009 8:00 PM
@ wha happen -
Smashing Pumpkins don't have an album called "Melancholy".
dude | April 24, 2009 6:42 PM
hahaha that is the stupidest thing i've ever seen. first of all, pro wrestling sucks ass.....i watched it when i was like 10....and then i realized how lame it was, but all the white trashy kids still loved it.
and second, he looks and acts like Eminem.
Spaceboy | April 24, 2009 1:46 PM
MCIS was so good that even after the atrocity that was Machina, I still considered Billy one of those musicians who could never be counted out. However, since all of his music of the past ten years has sucked royal balls (save Zwan) and he himself has turned into a moronic media monster (see above clip), I think it's safe to say that he may never release anything worth hearing again. Too bad.
booman22 | April 24, 2009 1:37 PM
Even if the Pumpkins material of late is not as good as years past, it is still better than half the crap out there. Billy can write a great song, period. The Smashing Pumpkins will continue to be a brand name in the world of music, so deal with it. I think he is trying to thin the heard, eliminate all music stealing folks, all the entitled bastards out there, and create a base of fans who truly care about all of the material. Get over the wrestling promo, he has been into it for a while.

wasnt corgan one of those people that ranted against music being used for advertisment? i dont know for sure, it just seems like he was one of those pretentious twats that did that occasionally in interviews. i swear i remember it happening
wha happen | April 24, 2009 10:39 AM
mr bummer: melancholy had a few good tracks (farewell & goodnight, stumbeleine, take me down, cupid de locke and despite its oversaturation 1979 was good radio fodder);
but could've been condensed to a full length easy or even a set of ep's.
Ray | April 24, 2009 9:22 AM
-the song hit complete saturation for him a long time ago. what amazes me is it isn't already there for everyone else. if he wants to spoof and give it a twist, -it's his prerogative.
personally I was never a fan of it since it came out and am fine with him sticking a fork in it. it's DONE already, and so r u.

This is officially rock bottom for Billy and the Pumpkins... No question... He has been flogging a dead horse now for at least 10 years...Come on now. Just quit.
mt | April 24, 2009 12:01 AM
Corgan's been a known fan of wrestling for quite a long time, if you bothered to do any research. And he seems to have a sense of humor about himself.
At least he's not hawking Dove Fresh Burst Nectarine Body Wash on the advertising sidebar over worthless copy-and-pasted commentary like you are.
mr.bummer | April 23, 2009 9:53 PM
sacred?...what?...bullet with butterflywings?---that was a HORRIBLE song that started the downfall.
siamese dreams was it, bottomline.
gish...ok...but thats it.
it really is amazing how much press this band gets for one good album, great album....but just ONE...? hmmmmmmm....
since that double album debaucle nothing has surprised me....corgans' a dipshit.
Marty | April 23, 2009 8:31 PM
He hasn't been the same since he morphed into Uncle Fester.
Donovan | April 23, 2009 6:14 PM
Wow, fuck me. I thought he was going to start covering "Mama Said Knock You Out."
Matt | April 23, 2009 5:45 PM
Jinkies...that was bad.
wha happen | April 23, 2009 3:41 PM
Once I was at tower records in nyc at a Pulp signing, mid-90's. 20 feet from the table looms awful billy corgan, just eating up the recognition.
What a dick.
Gish was a fine album. Siamese Dream a masterpiece. Melancholy a decent swan song.
The rest? garbage.
This guy hasn't had a clue for at least a decade.
Darren | April 23, 2009 3:02 PM
At least he used his big boy voice.
Ugh | April 23, 2009 2:21 PM
This is just terrible!
Erik B. | April 23, 2009 2:05 PM
Its his music, who are you to tell him what he can do with it?
If he wants to sell out that is his choice.
I dont think any music is sacred unless the artist who created it believes it should be.
Plus its not even the song. Its spoken word.. so really its just billy being paid to recite a couple of his lyrics. And who knows he could be a TNA fan just promoting an interest of his.
Could it be worse? yeah it could be a pepsi ad.
yeahh | April 23, 2009 2:04 PM
I just threw up in my mouth a little. It's okay though, I swallowed it.
