Yes, only at the S.S. will you find the first single from Tinted Windows, the new supergroup featuring Taylor Hanson, James Iha, Adam Schlesinger and Bun E. Carlos.
It's called "Kind of a Girl," and will be featured on the Windows' self-titled debut album, dropping on April 21st.
The initial spark for Tinted Windows occurred in the mid-Nineties, when Taylor and Adam (from Fountains of Wayne) first crossed paths. "Ever since we met, Taylor and I had talked about trying to do something together," says Adam, who has also worked closely with Iha over the years. The trio eventually bonded over power-pop, rock and New Wave. "We talked about everything from the Buzzcocks to the Knack," says Iha. "And, of course, Cheap Trick." On a whim they invited Cheap Trick drummer Bun E. Carlos into the mix, and he said yes!
So here ya go.

There is no doubt this going to hit hard and land in the top 10 - oh and don't think this wont land in a movie soundtrack! I can see closing credits spinning up the screen as this song plays.
There are all talented musicians and good to see them back.

Bite me, but please stream this thing at something more than 32kbps. I get the feeling that the vocals should have been clean and bright, but all I got was muddy guitar in my face because the 3 minute song is only half a meg.

Saw them on Saturday night and they rocked. They played with an extra guitar player. Anyone know who that was?
Nicole | May 1, 2009 7:50 AM
Okay, first of all, Tinted Windows=Amazing. Now that we got that out of the way, I read a lot of these comments and Hanson is STILL around first of all (that's to those of you who think they apparently fell of the face of the earth). Also, if you listen to their new stuff, after This Time Around..so like, Underneath and The Walk, and their new album coming out soon (yay!) then you would know they are not longer the same. They are nothing like mmmbop. So yea, do your research and listen before you bash people, thanks.

This is a cool song but it wont be the same as Hanson. I'll buy the album tho and support Taylor. HANSON FOREVER! Good job Taylor. I missed his voice!

it is completely mindless, isn't catchy, breaks no new ground - like, oh my god! and taylor is soo cute! but who are those old guys? what is a "cheap trick"?
i also love the hills and jonas brothers and miley cyrus and other things that are total crap. i'm going to go paint my toe nails now. bye bye haters!

So I don't know what your talking about when you say kids don't know anything about pop music.

well... this is sooo catchy! I really like it! but I needed to listen to it more than once :). as a BIG hanson fan I was confused/surprised from the start, seeing Taylor without Zac and Ike - and hearing the text of the song. but it is for fun, and there is a lot of fun in that. and Hanson has not ended as well :)
also I am FED UP with all the people who criticize Taylor/Hanson and know NOTHING about what they have done in the past 12 years... or people who judge this project just because Taylor is in it... Taylor is great! I wish a lot of luck to these guys!!!

I am 50. This is the first real piece of riveting, rip it up, buzzsaw guitar power pop to come out...well since power pop. It's supposed to be fun and about lost girlfriends, etc. You kids don't recall The Shoes, Big Star, The Buzzcocks, or for that matter Cheap Trick's first album that still blows most of the garbage you hear today out of the water. Go ask your mom's and dad's about happy music. Get over yourselves you pompous little headbangers. Go out and have a burger and a shake and listen to Tinted Windows without the fat lip and the thick tongue. Cripes! You kid's don't even know how to have fun anymore.

To everyone who keeps saying "it sounds too much like hanson" well it is hanson...
While I agree that taylor hanson has a very good voice i also think its very distinct lets face it, his two brothers are nothing without him, by far he is the most talented of the three and no matter what he does people will never be able to separate him from what made him famoous.
As for this so-called "super group" I agree its an odd match up, and quite frankly I really want to like it, but lyrically in all the songs I've listened to, I feel like are a little disjointed.
I appreciate a good pop song now and again, but this one totally falls flat there is nothing special about it other than the odd combination of the band.
Suzanne | April 2, 2009 2:51 PM
Oh, and one more...
Don't mess with Hanson fans,
We're Fiesty!!!
Suzanne | April 2, 2009 2:45 PM
I think "Tinted Windows" is an amazing band thus far. Check out Youtube and see them live. I'll be at the Double Door April 30th. Overall, all the members of the band are extremely talented and I love the less is more feel of the songs. About all the Taylor Hanson gossip:
1. Get over it..MMMBop was like 11 years ago.
2.If you ever listen to Hanson Indie label albums, such as, Underneath & The Walk, you would have a different perspective of the band.
3.Do your research before downgrading any music artist. They put a lot of heart and soul into this stuff. What do you have to show?
Thanks.
Kevin | April 1, 2009 11:41 PM
I like this song a lot. I'm a big fan of Fountains of Wayne.
Schlesinger and Iha teamed up to produce the new album by America, which was just phenomenal and put that group on the charts again for the first time in decades.
So I figure together in their own group they would kick some ass.
And this song does that.
Adam Schlesinger can kick a can down the street and make a catchy song out of it.
Phil | March 31, 2009 5:10 PM
Amber: this is a power pop band. If you find power pop "too poppy" for you, you're probably not going to like the rest of their music either. Although I'm a bit surprised that someone who loves Cheap Trick and Fountains of Wayne would find this song to be "too poppy".
amber | March 31, 2009 4:04 PM
i love all of the bands involved in the project, but i really dislike this song. I'm interested in hearing other stuff from them because i'm intrigured by the mix This song kinda makes my stomach hurt, literally. It's too poppy for me.

to compare the jonas brothers to tinted windows anyshape or form is music blasphemy. its elementry really, to make that comparison. the jonas brothers arent at all orgianal or unique. they cant be, they just came out the fucking womb. for me to even mention the horrid band so much bothers me and makes me wonder about the rest of humaity. on a side note hanson wasnt that bad, i dont know why pop culture remembers them so harshly.

it really isnt that great of a song, maybe the solo was allright. and i especially expected james iha to come up with something way better then that...
Dusti | March 20, 2009 1:34 PM
You know, this cracks me up. People are saying "It sounds so Jonas" "We didn't need another Jonas"...
Yeah, well, they said that we didn't need another Hanson, and *poof!* there's JBros. You all do realize that Jonas was the newgen spawn of Hanson, right? That they were discovered and molded in their elder's shadow to cater to the Disney generation? That the same guy that discovered Hanson also found JBros? That they compared the JBros vocals to Taylor Hanson's long before some moron decided he'd do a little wordplay and reverse that for some ungodly reason. Or maybe it's just the assumption of people who simply forgot that T.Han's vocals came first, so did the original Hanson sound, which also came from *gasp* power pop and old rock.
Also...how freaking young are some of you? Because obviously you can't recall a time when it was the 20somethings and even 30somethings that created the whole power pop feel back in the sixties and seventies.
Lastly, yeah, the song's lyrics are a little monotonous, but that's what's so great about power pop. You don't need all of that "OMFG I WANNA CUT MYSELF MY LIFE SUXXXXXXXXXXXXXX" depth or anything. There's a great upbeat rhythm, awesome guitar licks, and *gasp* even some cynicism by the end because the song's saying WATCH THE F*CK OUT BECAUSE THE PERFECT BITCH IS REALLY CRAZY.
If you're not a fan of powerpop, just turn around now and walk out. There's no need for this "it's not worthy to wipe my ass with" nonsense because we don't come onto blogs saying "WTF IS THIS GWAR CRAP?" "Why would you just scream for five minutes straight?" "You people really feel like cutting yourselves now that you heard the new single from [insert emo band here]? Well, I think I found the problem, stop being a bratty little omfg my life sucks because my parents won't buy me the iphone so I'll cut myself, go out and get some fresh air, maybe bowl a little or pick up a new hobby that doesn't include razors because you guys are all SO hardxcore"
k? Don't come in assuming. You know what comes out of assuming, right? Make an ass outta you and me, me because we have to remind you morons what different genres are and the difference between them and what it means to enjoy music and not make it your end all and be all. We like it, it's catchy, nothing OMFG earth-shattering, it's got a good drive, and I tell y'all, I have had a BLAST making a jaded pop feel mix CD and just cranking that shit up in the car!
Tulsa | March 18, 2009 11:25 PM
I just saw their first 'show' at the Cain's ballroom in Tulsa and all in all it was pretty interesting. I will be looking forward to the actual album. It's really hard to say how something sounds after hearing it for the frst time. Very fun and pop based, makes me wish I was 18 again.
Maureen | March 14, 2009 11:20 PM
I'm an Okie and I'm 25yrs old & yes! as a teenager back in the late '90s(& early 2000's) you mite say I did grew up [listening]to these type of bands(including Hanson)& the 1st show I saw was Hanson in '98 (I went to 2nd 1 because I mist the 1st 1). When I realized that 1 of the [Hanson]brothers was gonna be in a
super-group(or side prodject) I wasn't suprizd(really),but when I heard this song
(thats on here) I was like wow! like this is different! And it sounds...good? Yeah!.
So you know these I mite call Hanson The Jonas Brothers of the 1990's but this? Alight! and Happy Birthday to Taylor! Oh! I do have a Hanson Tee(which I orderd from
Kellogg's)& I wore it to camp& yes I wore it at the concert[before]& I still have it[today]. Anywho thanks for your time.
Jaquie | March 14, 2009 12:33 PM
I disagree that this sounds like other music on the radio. Honestly, I can't think of a single other song that this one sounds like. I love it, and can't wait til the album comes out.
Chuck | March 13, 2009 7:16 PM
I think the song fits right in with the current crop of power pop on the radio. In other words, its catchy and ultimately unremarkable. I was really looking forward to something far more interesting.
Vanessa | March 13, 2009 12:59 PM
Yeah I kinda like this- its catchy. Even though everyone was listening to Hanson in grade school I never did so I'm really not familiar with Taylor's voice. He has that typical pop/emo voice but nevertheless I like it and want to hear more.
Rumblefish | March 11, 2009 9:25 PM
"No doubt it's a feel-good pop song ("The Kind of Girl") but it doesn't sound like there was an actual thinking process when it came to writing the lyrics. "
A lot of great pop songs have resulted from not thinking too much about the lyrics. However, I think there was more thought than you give it credit for. The way the arc of being obsessed with the girl in the beginning to wanting to have nothing to do with her at the end is done is pretty polished. ("She's the kind of a girl you want to feel the touch of" to "She's the kind of a girl you've kinda had enough of").
Tracy in Tulsa | March 11, 2009 9:55 AM
Ok...I live in Tulsa and know all about Hanson. I just listened to the song, curious because I do think Taylor has a distinct voice...and to my surprise, I heard a bit of Joe Elliott - yes, Def Leppard - in this song!! Being a DL fan for 30 years that tends to make me happy. Ironic...Def Leppard touring with Cheap Trick this summer. Anyway, not what I was expecting, but anxious to hear more of what this band has to offer. Good luck to the band!
Wonderful | March 11, 2009 12:35 AM
This is a really happy pop song. I think it could be appreciated by anyone with an open mind (not people who are "cringing" and thinking taylor is from their "nightmares"), c'mon be grown ups. I love Taylor and he is worth buying an album. I'm impressed overall and can't wait for the album.
Michael | March 10, 2009 12:18 AM
No doubt it's a feel-good pop song ("The Kind of Girl") but it doesn't sound like there was an actual thinking process when it came to writing the lyrics. If talking about instrumentals alone, it wasn't so bad but neither was it mind blowing. So yeah, I guess you guys have got yourselves a typical power pop single.
Shane | March 9, 2009 9:47 PM
This is freakin good. Bout time a group of credible musicians emerged and wrote some rockin feel good pop songs.

Chris | March 8, 2009 3:47 AM
Where to begin...
Okay, I just found out about this musical collaboration today.I decided to give it a shot. Here are my thoughts:
-first of all, this gathering is just odd (I needed to get that out).
-secondly, I had to listen to the song "The Kind of Girl" more than two times. At first, I thought "turn it off, it's horrible" Why? Well, because it reminds me of Hanson circa '97 and I prefer the musical direction they have chosen lately. The second time I heard it, I thought "yeah,it's catchy and it's most likely going to get airtime". The third time I heard it, I definitely got the power-pop vibe that the guys were going for but I don't really dig it.
-When I heard of this news, I was like "Oh my God, I have to listen to it!" because I am fond of The Smashing Pumpkins and Hanson. However, I don't think that this song do them justice. I know that they are talented musicians and song writers and this song does not showcase their talents at all. It's saddening to say, I know.
P.S. ***message to the band***
I have only heard "The Kind of Girl" and I'm hoping that the CD offers something else because honestly, Tinted Windows is the kind of band that gets featured on VH1's "Where Are They Now: Pop Stars". But, if that's what you guys are going for then, by all means, go get 'em tiger!

Love this. Sorry I can't agree on the Jonas Bros. comparisons. This track sparkles, while everything I've heard of the Jonases seems flat and dull.
A fan of all four... | March 6, 2009 4:19 AM
I have a ticket for the Chicago show and I hadn't bothered to actually find the song until a couple of hours ago. I think it is really simple and catchy and does remind me of Fountains of Wayne and Cheap Trick. It didn't blow me away or anything, but just now I found myself kinda bouncing around the kitchen singing it to myself, so I guess it's a keeper. Snuck up on me, it did. I look forward to the show. I love James Iha...and Taylor Hanson, of course. He's a lot of fun. :)
Tell us what you think! | March 6, 2009 2:24 AM

Heeheeehee | March 6, 2009 12:32 AM
This is adorable music, and so well done. Pop & bubblegum doesn't equal mainstream, lame, and commercial. Lots of bands play bubblegum pop rock like this that are way underground!
If your liking of music is inversely proportional to its success, how can you really be a music lover?
Anyway, it's so fun to read the confused comments here. If you like this, and you "hate the f'in Jonas Brothers" - let's think. It's the same sort of music and only the superficial aspects (and label representation) are different. So do you really care about the music or the scene? As if it weren't obvious.
Yep, these seasoned vets are making simple music that sounds like the Jonas Brothers - because it's all GOOD MUSIC.
SuperJonasy and that's a good thing. | March 6, 2009 12:12 AM
The Jonas Brothers comparison is not at ALL misplaced. And it is not at ALL an insult. People, get over yourselves.
There is a place in this world for appreciating garage rock and bubblegum pop,and where the two meet. And it's not all about commerce - it's about fun music. The Jonas Brothers are really good. Anyone who values Cheap Trick (or Hanson) should be able to hear that.
Plus Adam Schlesinger wrote with the Jonases when they were on their first album, it's all connected.
I'd love to see Tinted Windows do a double bill with the Jonas Brothers sometime. Much as I love them - they could school the young'uns a bit. JB could open, in deference. ;)
Rock on, Tints.

I have now listened to this song several times and cannot grasp it. I can not decide if I like it or not. Or it could be my fear of no more Hanson, lol. Being a fan of all the bands especially Hanson I was excited, now just a bit confused. I do know the lyrics sort of really suck. I am used to a bit more depth coming from Taylor.

It is suprising how much negitivity comes from so many people who have heard just the one song and not the album as a whole you know little about music. I think it sounds good, better than 90% of popular music, and I hope they do well.
P.S. SP still rocks harder than anyone else

This is pop rocktastic and I imagine that Adam is the real driving force behind it.
"Everything works if you let it". It's about time we had some catchy guitar rock, with a nodding wink, and some pedigree.
Four talented musicians getting together to deliver some good time tunes. Freak out, go call the cops and have them arrested for daring to be so bold. Who let them out of their respective musical cages to do this?
Listen with your own ears. If you like it- sweet- you're an individual with your own tastes. And if Tinted Windows take off, he who laughs last...

Raptor: I hope you're not planning on becoming a psychologist, because enjoying pop music does not bring someone's sanity into question. Honestly. It doesn't.
Missy | March 2, 2009 11:04 PM
Raptor, I've listened to "The Walk" and I'm not really sure why participating in this calls Taylor's mental stability into question. . .

If the non-Hanson fans would listen to Hanson's album "The Walk", you would agree with me that Taylor's participation in this venture borders on the mentally unstable.

I CANNOT WAIT!!!
I MEAN, I THINK HANSON ARE ALL VERY TALENTED BUT WITH NO DOUBT TAYLOR IS THE MOST TALENTED OF THE THREE...SINGS, WRITE AWESOME SONGS AND PLAY EVERY INSTRUMENT...SURE HE IS AN AWESOME PIANO PLAYER AND A DESCRET GUITARIST, BUT HE IS VERY GOOD WITH PERCUSSION TOO....
THEN YOU HAVE ADAM WHICH IS AN AWESOME SONGWRITER and JAMES THAT RULEZ WITH THE GUITARZ...NOW BUN E. IS AN EXCELLENT DRUMMER...
SO EXCITED!!!!!!!
very catchy | March 2, 2009 1:18 PM
awesome song....that's all i can say!!!
Awesome guitars with a different voice on it!!!!

First of all i am a Hanson fan from day one..but this song reminds me the movie "Ten Things I Hate About You" Why i don't know.
I like the song...its different but good :)
Elly | March 2, 2009 8:41 AM
Who cares whether Hanson sound like this or not? We're commenting on Tinted Windows, not Hanson.
And for the person who can't abide a grown man singing about a girl: you just wrote off some of the great pop songs of our times. "Girl" by the Beatles, "Cinnamon Girl" by Neil Young, "Girl From the North Country" by Bob Dylan, and the list goes on.
Erin | March 2, 2009 12:19 AM
I agree with Aeromel. Hanson doesn't sound anything like this anymore. Listen to their newer music before opening your mouth to criticize them. Mmmbop was written and performed when they were still kids. People do grow up. Look at early Beatle's songs and they were adults when they wrote the songs. "I Want to Hold Your Hand" is very amateur compared to later Beatle's work. Please don't post an opinion unless you are informed. This doesn't sound anything like Hanson. I like the song for what it is. It is fun!!! It isn't meant to make you think or preach to you. It is meant to blast in your car on a hot summer day.
Marta | March 1, 2009 8:20 PM
Catchy, yes. FOW fans most deff will like it becasue that's what it mostly sounds like. It doesn't sound at all like Hanson( if you don't know their music), which can be both good and bad. The song is good, but like the most popular opinion, it's "too catchy". The whole Metro Station route is not good if you are trying to win over the respect of close-minded music fans, and gain new ones over the age of 15.If they want to appeal to a broader spectrum of listeners, that is my suggestion.I don't know how I feel about grown men singing about a "girl". They need to start singing about "women", if that's what they are going to be singing about. Maybe that's what's throwing me off about this song. Where can I get the other songs and videos?
And by the way, I've been a Hanson fan for 12 years.
Don't judge, just listen.
<3, M*

I don't normally take time to read all the comments that accompany a story, but I was interested in what people would think of this collaboration.
The one thing that surprised me is that a lot of people keep saying it sounds "Hanson-y." I listened to it with my brother and we both agreed we thought it sounded more like a Cheap Trick song than any of the other bands whose members are involved.
Also, I wanted to say that I am 31 years old and a huge Hanson fan. I noticed that alot of people are talking smack on Hanson, but they only mention "Mmmbop" as an example of why they hate them so much. "Middle of Nowhere" came out more than a decade ago. They have released three more albums since then and have grown and matured with each one. They have won acceptance as an indie band and now garner rave reviews from the same critics that dismissed them when they first hit the scene. Everyone is entitled to their opinions (I, for one, have always found Smashing Pumpkins to be god awful depressing!), it just seems to me that these opinions are a little uninformed.

alright so all the snobs who think that it's a good idea to bash hanson because they think theyre music sucks, if you were really into music you would do a little more investigation before shutting them down; it makes you all look like a bunch of idiots. try and open up your mind, they were young when they came out with middle of nowhere, they're men who create beautiful music with a purpose. they dont go mainstream because they dont care about how their music is perceived by the press, only by their fans.
SonOfZander | March 1, 2009 10:10 AM
I thought this a bizarre combination of musicians when I first hear about it. It reminds me of a bastard offspring of Cheap Trick. Which in my books is A-Okay.
I give it a thumbs up.
PennyLane | February 28, 2009 11:44 PM
I never comment on these things, but I think the song is awesome. I hope this collaboration receives the "respect" that these musicians deserve. Honestly, if the rest of the record sounds like this song, I'm absolutely picking up a copy. (btw, who has nightmares about Taylor Hanson? He's like, the most benign individual on the plant-and has an excellent voice.)

I was put off because i judged a band that had taylor hanson in it. Yes, i know, but i find that most people will too. I listened to it almost as a joke, but i was suprised at the end. I found myself hmm along to the tune later on in the day to my amazement. I think the music is fun & catchy. People shouldnt take music to seriously and just have fun with it.

I've heard that too about billy corgan's voice, i have also went to the smashing pumpkins concert when they came to my country, and he was a dissaster singing live!! the next day, paper's reviews were like WTF? Now, Taylor singing live... amazing!
mattonium | February 27, 2009 11:48 PM
since I love power pop, I LOVE THIS SONG. I'm 41 years old. Never listened to Hanson other than mmm bop and I never really paid attention to it. I love Cheap Trick, Fountains of Wayne, and SP. This is brilliant pop songwriting. It pushes the melody to the part of being ridiculous, but will throw in a few surprises that make it sound more intelligent. For those SP fans who think the voice is over-produced. Did you know that Billy C usually does about 100 vocal takes per song and they comp together the best takes? His voice is about the most produced voice out there. Yes, I know this, I recorded with their engineer from Melancholy. He told me this. It's quite common, in fact.
Can't wait to buy this album, I like the 2nd song on the video better.

ari dude | February 27, 2009 5:37 PM
Hmm..I did notice that FoW fans seem to love it. And the MAJORITY of SP fans seem to hate/dislike it (a few exceptions). I'm not sure about CT fans, there haven't been many around here that I noticed. But Hanson fans seem to be split. There's those that go "this is Taylor Hanson! Awesome! I love it!" There are those that go "This isn't Hanson! I hate it!" and there are those that just aren't really into it because they don't like the sound of overly-catchy power-pop music.
I would label myself a fan of SP and Hanson and would say I fall into the last category in the sense that - I can listen to it, but it's a little TOO catchy for my taste. If I randomly came across a song like this and didn't know who was in the band, I think I'd be indifferent.

I'm personally a big fan of Hanson, FoW and Cheap Trick (sorry - never got Smashing Pumpkins), and Tinted Windows have a great retro power-pop sound that I really enjoy.

Okay, if you have "nightmares" about Taylor Hanson, GO ANALYZE YOURSELF!! I can't belive people who is talking about what Billy C would think about Tinted Windows, like if you were friends with him and know the guy, LOL, and THAT is the typical behavior of fans of a tennie bubblegum band.
And for the record, you are supposed to act differently than what you are criticizing. ;) So stop blameing a band for the mental problems that you have, go to see a therapist, a pop song is not the real reason of you anger.
I feel sorry for the Smashing Pumpkins, they have the most hysterical, tennie and ignorant fanbase ever! Even backstreet boys fans knows when it's time to shut up!

Bring on the pixie sticks, kool-aid and saturday morning cartoons, 'cause that is what I picture when this sugar-y sweetness is invading my ear drums. It this will hit the airwaves and soar for the general public but for how long?
Love the comment " until you realize its the Taylor Hanson from our nightmares" Talented, sure but his bubble gum voice is too sticky sweet...uh-oohhh, uh-oohh. Hope Iha finds something that is a better fit for him. Miss him with Corgan.

well, don't me wrong, the song is definitely VERY catchy. and there are definitely some VERY talented guys in this new group. Taylor Hanson being one of them : ). but i was expecting something...different i guess. more rockish then again, it really is only one song. the album still hasn't come out yet! but i am a huge hanson fan, and im really excited that taylor is a part of this!

Lonnie Senstock | February 26, 2009 10:42 PM
Ok...Hanson:
-3 kids so young, made themselves a success, period.
-play their own instruments, a plus
-so much talent at such a young age.
-no matter what song of Hanson made them, fact is it made them. They prove they are a success.
-Taylor, a 3 to 4 or more musician, plays that many instruments. Still looks good, unites with band that have also proven themselves.
-Music changes, it may sound the same sort of from each musician, so what?
-Putting a great (unique) singer as Taylor, with legends, some not legends, but just saying good musicians and making fun pop songs, what is wrong with that?
-You will say, "EVERYTHING" because it's not what you would do, but take the facts I've written, OPEN YOUR MIND to new stuff and give it a shot. That is how music continues, to let it grow.
-So what, you take musicians and mix them. Doesn't everyone have room to grow? Dont we all like to tell people "They have room to grow"? Then let it happen, give it a chance, if then you still dont like it...
-THEN GO BACK TO THE 1 or 2 CD's you have in your life and live in your closed minded world and let the real folks who want to hear new ideas do that.
-Taylor is w/out a doubt a great musician and at such an early age. Quite an accomplishment for such youngsters. Now that he is not a teen, YOU WONT ALLOW HIM TO GROW? That is a sign of weakness and insecurity on the part of the people who say things against "Hanson" w/out really letting them be who they are. Musicians...

OK, no doubt that Taylor can wail with that voice of his. I've always enjoyed his voice and I like the song but only cuz it was done to successfully copy Cheap Trick. It just reminds me of an outdated punk song that they tried to put in Hannah Montana mode. I mean when I hear it, I literally wanna watch cartoons and drink Kool-Aid.
I think I'm also a little disappointed that with such amazing artists in this band, that it would sound like that, I think I was expecting a totally different sound and was surprised & not in a good way.
Sure I miss the pop sound of Hanson but that's b/c it was huge back in the 90s. If they're lookin for New Wave, this ain't it.

As a long-time Hanson fan, the idea that this song sounds "Hanson-y" is crazy. Yes, Taylor Hanson is singing, do you expect him to have different voice? But this song is even a lot more poppy than recent Hanson songs and has a whole different orchestration.
Lust 4 Trent Reznor | February 26, 2009 5:30 AM
It's just okay. It's catchy, I can forsee hearing it on the Z100 type radio stations, if that is where they want the song to make it's way to people's ears. I can't see it being played for a more mature type radio station audience.
It does sound alot like the Robin Zander type of vocals, does sound a bit poppish like a Hanson tune.
Hoping the rest of the cd will be a bit better, deeper.
Not sure yet if i'll purchase...we'll see. I'd like to hear more first before I make that decision.
ari dude | February 26, 2009 4:34 AM
SD, regarding the similarity of Taylor and Billy - there really isn't one, but I could see how someone could draw a parallel - both sometimes have these whiny high voices.
As for the sound - being that THREE of the four members (as far as I know, the three referred to are Taylor, James and Adam) wrote songs for the album, it's logical to expect a sound that at least on SOME songs resembles what each has previously recorded.
So, no, it's not illogical to try and compare this to Hanson or the Smashing Pumpkins - the problem is that obviously this specific song doesn't sound much like either of the two bands, which indicates to me that Adam probably had the biggest part in writing THIS tune. As for the rest of the album, obviously, since I haven't heard it, I wouldn't know. Although I do expect to hear a couple of songs that sound more SP-influenced and Hanson influenced, since all 3 guys wrote songs for the album.

Here's a good excerpt from an article on Exclaim News:
"He [Adam Schlesinger] also reminded us that Hanson is no longer the baby-faced teen from the multimillion-selling ’90s brother act. “We have Taylor with this incredible voice so I had the idea of doing something with a lot of energy,” Schlesinger said. “It's a shame that when people think of Hanson, they think of Taylor as a teenager. But he's a grown man, and he's capable of doing so much."

Hmmm | February 25, 2009 9:39 PM
I do not and will not ever understand why you people are even praising that kid from Smashing Pumpkins. That band has been dead for years. Billy is a emo jack ass and If i was James, I wouldn't go back. I'd rather sing with the Spice Girls. The band is an intereasting combination. The song is catchy, but I don't see this hanging around too long. I know Taylor is very dedicated to Hanson still, and the band is still doing amazingly well. I am going to mostly defend Taylor just becausehalf of you twits on here think that he's still 14 years old. I'm sorry, but how well off were you at age 14? Not very. I think he did pretty damn good for his life and career. He had more balls then any of you on here. This band is lucky to have Taylor in it. I think that everyone who is in the band is a great asset. James brings in the Billy emo, the dude from cheap trick brings in the oldies, the dude from FOW does something and Taylor brings in very good vocals and song writing skills. Just close your eyes and don't focus on who's in the band. If you like the song, you like the song.
Charlie | February 25, 2009 9:38 PM
I'm just wondering how they got off and made this horrible song.
It's not good whatsoever, man this is so disappointing.
Number 41 | February 25, 2009 9:03 PM
Reminds me a lot of "Little Red Light" from Fountains of Wayne, but that's a good thing. The vocals are kind of Robin Zander-ish, too, so there's the Cheap Trick part. But I'll be interested to hear the other tracks because if I hadn't been aware that James Iha was in this band, I'd never have known it from listening to this song.
Matt | February 25, 2009 8:52 PM
Sounds good! If they got with the Cars they could be the tinted car windows. j/k.
Mr. Muffin Man | February 25, 2009 8:46 PM
Not bad. Though it's rather peculiar that even with a gathering like this, the result still sounds like an "Adam Schlesinger project." Which is fine. I mean, Robbie Fulks never wrote any songs dedicated to the hotlines of either Hanson, Cheap Trick, or Smashing Pumpkins. Though Billy Corgan did have something of a pop-songcraft-made-to-order racket going on there in the late '90s.
RachelL | February 25, 2009 8:41 PM
I think the songs are fun. And it is something different. How many bands have vast age differences? Therefore, it adds more to the cooking pot. I like it.

wtf! Anyone that thinks Taylor sounds like Billy Corgan is nuts. Not even close.
I really don't understand why people are making the comparison of this song sounding like Smashing Pumpkins or Hanson.
Adam Schlesinger wrote the 11 songs on the CD so the main influnce is his, that's why the song sound more like a Foutain of Wayne song than any of the other band's music involved.
And where are the Cheap Trick fans and Foutain of Wayne fans comments about this collarboration.

I love Taylor's voice, he is an amazing singer, but at the same time I've ALWAYS thought that Taylor, when he sings nassal, he sounds like a duckie, but a cute one. LOL
And the thing with Smashing Pumpkins, IMO, is that when I listen to a whole record, Corgan voice starts getting annoying after... I don't know, 5 tracks?...

Blink. Kennerty, please, do not try to educate me on the live vocal abilities of one Taylor Hanson or one Billy Corgan. The former I have seen live a couple of times myself (and plenty of times heard/seen live recordings). The latter I have heard/seen plenty of live recordings of. This is why I said MAYBE Taylor sounds a little like a less nasal and much younger version of Billy.
Taylor's voice does have much more quality than Billy's. Billy's singing was never what would objectively be labeled as good singing. He does not have a good singing voice. But I still like the sound for whatever reason. Taylor does have a good singing voice, minus the occasional whining thing he does with it (whereas Billy's whining is somehow more endearing).
So, Taylor sings well, he should just tone down the whining at times. Billy doesn't sing as well, but I enjoy his whine. Who do I like better? I'm not sure. Taylor perhaps, when he's not whine-y.

I would argue with ari dude that Hanson's most recent album was deliberately UNDER-produced...they were going for a raw, live band sound. This is very good pop and TH's voice shines on it. Taylor as a songwriter and a singer is the most "pop" in his style of the three Hansons...this suits him well. Very catchy.

Hmm.. I don't think he really sounds like Corgan. Maybe the fact that both voices are pretty processed. Hmm or maybe just a less nasally and much younger version of Billy.
However, I can definitely imagine this song - well, at least the verses - with Billy's voice and it being one of the more fun/upbeat Pumpkins songs. The chorus and some parts just sound too poppy/too Fountains of Wayne to be anything like SP.
And for me, the music sounds nothing like Hanson in ANY era of their career. They never really used the processed-guitar sound that dominates here. Without that, maybe there would be SOME similarity.

Anonymous | February 25, 2009 5:27 PM
PS, Brock ...
Anyone else here think Taylor sounds a little bit like Billy Corgan?
ari dude | February 25, 2009 5:22 PM
I would say that, yes, as I said earlier, Hanson's vocals are over-processed on this tune. And no, I'm not basing that on just this song. I mean that in comparison to the songs in his original band, you can really hear the difference. His voice sounds more natural on Hanson's songs than on TW.
As for Iha, I'd say that it does suit him to an extent. The Smashing Pumpkins had many upbeat/fun songs where you could connect the guitar-playing between the two.
But the general sound of this song is much catchier/poppier than anything I've heard from either Hanson or the Smashing Pumpkins.
All in all, it's been a couple of days, and it's growing on me a bit. Not a bad track. Hoping for better tunes on the album.
Anonymous | February 25, 2009 5:20 PM
RE: Brock Sampson | February 25, 2009 9:59 AM "WTF is Iha doing? This is way too poppy t be worth anything."
DUDE, BROCK, HAVE YOU EVER *HEARD* SMASHING PUMPKINS? It IS pop music! ... Wow.
Stephanie | February 25, 2009 5:20 PM
Yeah, just backing some people up in saying:
this song is MUCH MORE Fountains of Wayne than it is Hanson. Hanson back in their Middle of Nowhere days, MAYBE, but definitely nooot the same as modern day Hanson.
So anyone who automatically assumes that "this is Hanson" or "didn't the world ban Hanson?", LISTEN TO THEIR RECENT MUSIC please before dissing them. Because.. there's a good reason why Hanson is a pretty darn well respected band within the music industry. It's because they actually know what they're doing, and most people who KNOW their recent music are very happy to collaborate with them :)
rean | February 25, 2009 5:09 PM
amazing tune. hanson is hanson (awesome) , tinted windows is tinted windows, and thats it, there is nothing more to say.

dis hanson all you want folks, but honestly... fountains of wayne's first single was 'stacy's mom'. I wasn't even aware they put out other songs until all the fountains of wayne fangirls got on here to dis.
Anonymous | February 25, 2009 3:38 PM
everyone thinks the hanson connection will hinder this band... sorry to tell you that hanson has played sold out tours and had an album go number one on billboard in recent years. not to mention look at all the bands/artists who got their start on hanson's tour circuit, or got mentions at hanson events. Michelle branch, maroon 5, kate voegle, ray lamontagne, david garza...The connetction is not lost on me.
You're sorely underestimating the vast network of hanson fans, and their loyalty to anything hanson. (me being one of them)

I agree with you Sofia, the song reminds me when Hanson's songs were used to be catchy and fun, I think I was missing that kind of music and I didn't realized about that until now that I'm listening to Taylor's voice on a very fun pop song. LOVE IT!
SOFIA QUINTERO | February 25, 2009 1:56 PM
OMG... I'm so excited... this song it's just perfect for the new pop fans that are growing under the influence of punk and the inspiration of the early 80's... Listening to Taylor Hanson again, without his brothers, and without all the mellancoly that HANSON carries on its songs... makes me feel like a teenager again, when i heard MMMBOP and i was catched by the pure, inocent and funny pop.
I can't believe that James Iha and Tay are working together, it's crazzy.. and makes me believe that everything in this world it's possible, also they invited a chip trick member... this is like a coctail with a Wiskey, Tequila, Bodka, and Beer... You'll love it and you will try it once and again, and again, and again... hahaha!
I want that album right now!
to Lil | February 25, 2009 1:54 PM
It doesn't sound like Hanson at all. You should have check the latest Hanson albums to make an opinion about Hanson's sound. I'm sorry to inform you that your opinion is not valid AT ALL because it's just IGNORANT.
Ryan | February 25, 2009 1:45 PM
James Iha used to be in a band that inspired many musicians to compose creative compositions and push the boundaries of music.
This new band's music is "fun", and easy for the biggest audience of music (pop fans) to enjoy. While i'd like more from him, I just hope Iha is having fun.
He'll make music with more substance and uniqueness again. I'll have more to say when he does.

1) Didn't the whole world ban the Hansons?
2) This is James 3rd solo break-out since he left the SP. Maybe it's not in the cards for you man.
3) Is this music for the Disney channel?
4) What's next, putting Limp Biskit, I.C.P., and Creed together?

RosyD | February 25, 2009 6:40 AM
Yeehhh...
I was both excited and apprehensive when my friend told me about this new musical creation.
The current me was loving the Schlesinger/Iha side of things, and I was always kind of a fan of Cheap Trick, but Taylor Hanson? What the hell, just seemed weird that of all people he was the one to lead them.
But it works. Maybe I'm just really happy to see Adam S warming the collective heart of earth again. He's good at that.
Plus the ten-year-old inside of me is going, OOOH TAAAYLOR YOU STILL GOT IT BAYBEEE.
Not that I spoke like that when I was ten.
But yeah, you can definitely hear that this is smothered with delicious Schlesinger goodness. Someone else said it remided them of That Thing You Do - whatever your name is on here (comment list is too long to scroll through), you're right. It's very TTYD.
It's catchy.
Possibly too catchy.
I don't mind it. Let it grow on me.
casey penney | February 25, 2009 5:43 AM
470+ comments and counting. love them or hate them, this is and will be a PR success.
but most important, they are all EXTREMELY talented musicians in their own right and are having fun with a new side gig.
i am a fan of all of them (especially hanson) and for those who need to be convinced of what taylor brings to the table - one article said it best: 75% of the female fan base. it's undeniable.
i'm very excited to hear the rest of the album. rock on, guys.
I like the song! | February 25, 2009 5:33 AM
and people who judges a band because of 1 song only, is evident they know NOTHING about music and that's what makes all your opinions totally irrelevant.
Jo | February 25, 2009 5:14 AM
I only had one expectation when I first heard about Tinted Windows... that this would be unlike anything I've ever heard from the bands these guys come from. The certainly delivered! I've always love Cheap Trick and (especially) Hanson,I only like about 3 songs by the Pumpkins because I can't stand Billy's voice (for a so-called "perfectionist" the live album I heard blew the big one)and the fourth band I've never even heard of actually, but this song is very fun and there's loads of energy. To all the bashers out there, judging a band after hearing one song is ridiculous. I highly doubt that every song on the album is going to sound just like this one so lighten up or write something better yourselves and listen to that. I also doubt that anyone who likes the song even cares what you have to say, so really you're just wasting your time with your crude comments.
Sheik (shake) of Araby | February 25, 2009 3:17 AM
If THIS song doesn't become the next BIG THING, I'm quite astonished. This sounds really good! Get a lot of Cheap Trick-vibes.... =)

I've been a HUGE Hanson fan for 12 years now. It's a bit different from what I was expecting, but I like it. =) It's stuck in my head. ...not in a bad way. =D Love you, Taylor! <3
Miranda | February 25, 2009 1:32 AM
I totally agree with Rumblefish.
I can't wait for the album to come out. I've heard Taylor sing live and that is definitly his voice, no getting around it.

Every person likes what they like.
My nephews are all metal.
My son Pop and Rock.
It's called freedom of choice.
I my self like it.
I also think before people judge Hanson the may want to get The Walk cd.
I'm 39 yrs old and Love it !!!
Stephanie | February 25, 2009 1:27 AM
Ok, so first off there are just a few things I'd like to mention:
1)For anyone not taking Taylor Hanson seriously, go look up Hanson's "Underneath" or "The Walk" albums. They're actually MUCH MUCH deeper and less pop than this song is. NO ONE "sells out" or anything like that by working with Taylor Hanson. I just wanted to get that out first, because I know there are people who are going to automatically assume it. And.. it's not true. Not that I don't love this song- I do, and I'll get to that more in a minute- but I just think it's worth noting that, musically AND lyrically, this is actually a bit of a DOWNGRADE from Hanson as a band. Not an upgrade.
2)The vocals ARE overproduced a little bit. And it works, it's totally fine for this kind of music. It's super fun! It's power pop! But again, just thought it was worth noting that Taylor's vocals are quite a bit better than this song might let on
That said, I really do love it, and just listened to it about 6 times in a row :P It's SUPER SUPER catchy a fun, and just.. a good time. There is NOTHING wrong with a little guilty pleasure music! (that happens to be made more legitimate by the fact that there are some truly talented musicians involved)
dorian | February 25, 2009 1:22 AM
one thing i don't get is why a lot of people here are saying that hanson is only for teenagers...
but didn't they come out like, over a decade ago? so those kids that were 14 year old fangirls are around 25 or something now? do teens today even know who 'hanson' is?
Rumblefish | February 25, 2009 1:05 AM
Oh yeah, also, for all of the Smashing Pumpkins fans who think that James Iha has "sold out" out and that Billy Corgan would be ashamed of him: Billy Corgan is also friends with the Hansons and has been to many a Hanson show. That's right, Billy Corgan is a Hanson fan. Now you can all really go cry in to your cereal.
Jesus, I like SP, too. It's not the same band! Quit whining like a bunch of babies.
Rumblefish | February 25, 2009 12:58 AM
"that was awful..the whinning little boy has no idea what kind of girl she is cause with the kind of voice he's never been to first base"
Um, sweetheart, the "whining little boy" is a married man with four children.
Alicia | February 25, 2009 12:49 AM
I like it. People need to stop judging "music" on "who" sings a song, and start listening. Are you listening? 'Cause I am.
I can't wait to hear more :).
Are You Listening...? | February 25, 2009 12:16 AM
Only old people who were horrified they loved a teen boy band in 1997 will hate on this...The Hanson guys are married with kids...and are all f&%king unbelievable when it comes to writing, recording and playing awesome music....Taylor teaming up with these guys shows his maturity..get with the program dissers - This band is gonna ROCK OUR UNIVERSE!!! My first taste of this hit is deeelicious!! LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!
Chris | February 25, 2009 12:08 AM
"You know what this sounds like? It sounds like four members of formerly super successful groups having fun. It's pop music...it's not supposed to be groundbreaking. Not a bad song..."
Exactly spot on.
Jayme *FANSON4LIFE* | February 25, 2009 12:02 AM
Taylor's vocals over produced? You've never been to a Hanson concert have you? His voice really is that amazing :)
The Intl | February 24, 2009 11:43 PM
OK, let's hope this isn't Velvet Revolver minus a habit.
I forgive Iha for being in Smashing Pumpkins. I'm hoping this will be great pop music - know what I mean by pop music? I remember one of those MTV shows hosted by Ashton Kutcher & a panel voted for the five best whatevers. Hanson were on & were championing the Beach Boys as a great band. Kutcher kept dissing them, & they were trying to clarify by citing "Pet Sounds" - he dumped their vote. He's a tool to this day, & Hanson were misunderstood.
What was the question?
Gabriel | February 24, 2009 11:39 PM
Complete shit, Iha should be ashamed of himself. i'm sure he can make better songs in the comfort of his own home without the other 3 guys, who should get day jobs.
jamie | February 24, 2009 11:28 PM
Super catchy, really liking it after a few listens. Reminds me of "That Thing You Do" a little, which makes sense given Adam S. Excited to hear what else they've got up their sleeve.
Super Group? | February 24, 2009 11:25 PM
Someone please tell me why this is considered a super group.... james did hardly any song writing compared to billy which obviously shows, hanson.... enough said, foundations of wayne???? only respect this band gets is because of their drummer.... and this song sounds like something that they would play for a Hannah Montana show!
Noell | February 24, 2009 11:17 PM
I listened to this song a couple of times before actually deciding on my opinion. It's pop - catchy, fun and upbeat. The guitars are riffing in all the right ways, the drums sounded great and the vocals definitely stand out.
To all the people who say "the vocals were over-processed over-produced" obviously don't know what Taylor Hanson's voice sounds like - that is HIS voice, that's what he sounds like. I've seen him live with Hanson many times and he's just as good live as he is on an album. He has one of those unforgettable voices, much like Steven Tyler in a way, which isn't "produced" at all, it's his natural voice.
I'm not just saying these things because I've been a long time Hanson fan (since '97). I'm also a SP fan, as well as Fountains of Wayne. I give all music a chance. I like music that moves me, makes me feel good, and puts a smile on my face. That's what this did to me. Watch the video on their site, the 2nd song sounds better than "Kind of a Girl."
From first listen, it seems like Tinted Windows will be off to a good start. A new edge to retro pop will go a long way with the current angsty emo screaming and rappers with violence stuff polluting the airwaves. Looking forward to April 21. I think I'll be a fan!
FUCK OFF. | February 24, 2009 10:32 PM
i have no clue who everyone thinks they are to use mmmbop as an example of hanson. they have gone so far with their music, theyre still working in the studio. this is a SIDE PROJECT. he wanted to try something new, and so he did. if you want to judge taylor hanson try listening to his newer music, th're so talented.
this song is catchy, not incredibly special, but still very good.
mmmgood stuff.

I like the song for what it is. Most bands release a catchy, radio friendly song as their first single. However, I hope that there is more to offer in terms of depth with the rest of the album. Fun is good. Good lyrics and instrumentation is great.
Dee-Dee | February 24, 2009 8:41 PM
WAYYYYYY too many wooahhh-ohhhh's. I can definitely hear the JoBros as well as Foutains of Wayne comparisons in this tune. Catchy? Definitely. Reminds me of a song that will be used in a Doublemint Gum commercial in the near future. VERY DIFFERENT. T. Hanson's vocals are WAY TOO over-produced. In my opinion- I think this was a poor choice to pick as the first song to expose the general public to.

ari dude | February 24, 2009 7:31 PM
Hmm. I'm torn. Issue #1 - it is catchy. But it is TOO catchy.
Issue #2 - the general sound is definitely along the same vein as Fountains of Wayne, as far as I know that band. (And I have to say, of the four members' other bands, that was my least favourite).
Issue #3 - there IS some similarity with the Smashing Pumpkins - I can hear some resemblance in the guitars to songs like Rocket, or some of the stuff from the Machina era. And I don't dislike some of the guitar work - it's just TOO catchy.
Issue #4 - Taylor's vocals are overproduced. Not natural at all.
Issue #5 - Lyrics. No. I mean... NO. Maybe this would fly in Fountains of Wayne (Stacy's Mom has even worse lyrics) but in Hanson or SP, I highly doubt it.
All in all, it's not HORRIBLE, but just not my cup of tea. I remain hopeful that there will be better tracks on the album as a whole. Less catchy, processed tracks with shitty lyrics. More raw. Either a) more like the Smashing Pumpkins or b) more like Hanson. But hey, whoever likes it, go for it.
man, so many haters | February 24, 2009 7:30 PM

Angela | February 24, 2009 7:24 PM
Wasn't exactly what I was expecting, but I actually like the song, very catchy and fun.
It's different from what Hanson has been doing the last couple of years.
I think this band is all about a group of guys who all have had successful careers in their own right, just getting together, writing, jamming and having some fun experimenting with things that maybe their fans might not be used to hearing from them.
They are all very talented musicians, and it will be interesting to hear what else they have come up with.
Nadia | February 24, 2009 7:20 PM
I meant *they wouldn't be selling it*
Nadia | February 24, 2009 7:17 PM
yes, he made a hit song to make money because THAT'S HIS JOB! That's what he does for a living! Do you really think SP didn't make songs like "tonight tonight" and "1979" only for the love for music and not for selling records? PLEASE! YOU ARE SO NAIVE! LMFAO!
If you the SP or Iha would ever want to make music to fill lonely, lost, dark blah blah souls, they would never signed a deal with a record label. They would be selling it. They ALL make money with music, that IS any musician porpose. You'are the naive ones who thought it was never like that with SP. I'm still laughing of your innocence! It made my day!

I used to feel bad for James, because Billy has said some really harsh things about him. But he DID give him the opportunity to rejoin the band and he declined -- FOR THIS? Hahaha, James, you are better than this.
Tinted Windows makes Zwan look like Led Zeppelin. Billy and Jimmy won. Or "got the better deal" as James' A Perfect Circle bandmates jokingly said once while dissing Zwan.
I think I'm gonna go listen to Superchrist now so I can forget about this forumlatic drivel for the rest of my life.

This is typical power chord pop... crap-on-a-stick dipped in sh*t. Why is this stuff still being made? WHY??!! It's obviously very Weezer-era pop... which has ALREADY been done and shouldn't be done again.
Honestly, it's like someone thought, "OK, now how can take all that has been done before and repackage it into something we can re-sell so that it looks new?" The name of the bag is easily the most uncreative band name I have heard of, which is probably why they chose it. Since this band's sound lacks anything remotely close to creativity, I suppose it fits that their name lacks any imagination as well.
I'll stick with bands more progressive than this nonsense.
James what's matter with you!! | February 24, 2009 6:38 PM
What's your problem!!!!!
why did you leave to the smashing THE SMASHINGones!! ??
Jess | February 24, 2009 6:18 PM
This is GREAT, cruncy, hooky pop! Thanks guys; can't wait for the record and hope to see you live.
(I didn't realize there were still so many fools around spewing hate at Hanson...after 12 years...wow. Pathetic.)
PopDog | February 24, 2009 6:17 PM
It's interesting how the haters are either self important SP fans or self important Hanson fans. Let go of preconceived notions and let artists just BE! Otherwise YOU are the problem with the music industry.
Everyone's a critic, only a few have the balls to get together and make a record that will be heard and criticized by the world. So even if you don't like the song, be supportive of MUSIC!
somebody | February 24, 2009 6:11 PM
What the hell have you done, James!? HANSON for Christ sake!? HANSON has no redemption.
Dr. Incognito | February 24, 2009 5:58 PM
Long live power pop!
This won't change my life, but it is miles better than any of the whiny emo pseudopunk wouldn't-it-be-so-neat-to-be-Green-Day crap I've heard over the past ten years or so, and it beats the daylights out of the THIS ARE VERY SERIOUS anonymous "rock" that you see on VH1 ad nauseum...

HANSON HAS THE BALLS NOT ONLY TO REINVENT THEMSELVES BUT TO DO IT IN THEIR OWN TERMS. - Nikki Sixx at VH1 Hanson special.

Grow uuuuuuuuuuuuuuup! And DO RESEARCH before opening your ignorant mouths.

I've been a Hanson fan for the past 12 years just like I used to be a huge Smashing Pumpkins Fan so when I first heard the song I wanted to cry.. I seriously expected more from this "supergroup" but as I listen to it more I started to like it... I hope their next single is better!
btw: people need to chill!!! It's just a song, if you don't like it DON"T F*CKING LISTEN TO IT!!!!!

Nice...
Smashing Pumpkins fans are the most hysterical and annoying people I've ever seen. Grow up guys.
Jaye N. | February 24, 2009 5:02 PM
This shit is good. Simple, fun, reminds me of 80s new-wave, pop-punk. A little less gritty than I expected, actually, but I like it. I think the lack of grit is a first-single tactic to get the masses hooked in. The second song that's snippeted on their myspace is actually more attuned to what I feel the album will probably be like.
I appreciate this because it's in the vein of today's popular music, but produced by guys who really know their stuff, so I know it's well done and well-intentioned. This song is for feel-good fun, period.
Also. Taylor Hanson is one hot motherfucker, all you guys are just sore that he's been admired since fucking '95.
Can't wait to see the album drop!
Chris | February 24, 2009 4:52 PM
Awesome song! The people that hate on them are people that are stressed out at work and cant take out their anger on their loved ones so they pick on some random band that has no effect on their lives what so ever.
Just me | February 24, 2009 4:49 PM
A lot of thought went into the lyrics for the chorus.
James Iha! Judas! | February 24, 2009 4:37 PM

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | February 24, 2009 4:34 PM
Awesome guitars with a nice voice on it!!!
I love this song...it's been in my head since i got it!!!
JP | February 24, 2009 4:34 PM
Wow! This song has really struck a nerve.
First of all, I really like this song. Also, it is what I expect to hear from members of these four different bands. I haven't heard a really good pop rock or power pop song on the radio for a really long time. So, I hope this song does become successful.
The Jonas Brothers comparision is misplaced. When I listened to their last album to see what the big fuss was about, I dubbed them Cheap Trick JR. & Fountains Of Wayne JR. They sounded like a band who wrote songs that sound like weaker version of better pop rock bands. Tinted Windows is the real deal, not an over-hyped imitation.
For hating a song that is not a complex, progressive rock with self-important lyrics, you guys need to grow up. Seriously, not all songs have to "change the world". Some songs can be fun to listen to and actually be good. There is a world of difference from what Tinted Window did and what Miley Cyrus does. If you can't suss that out, then stop calling yourself a music expert who knows what good music is.

I like it. I expected it to be a bit edgier though, but this works. I'm hoping the other songs on the album have stronger lyrics but I like the contrast with Taylor's voice and the guitars.

Wow, really reminds me of Cheap Trick. Great song! I get that some of you are hating on it for being "stupid crap pop" but you need to realize that there is an art form for that stuff, and Fountains of Wayne/Cheap Trick are definitely part of that culture. Powerpop means a lot to people, especially songwriters.
And for all you Pumpkins fans out there, Billy Corgan is a huge Cheap Trick fan (so I assume James might be) and I wouldn't be surprised if he digs this band.

As with most pop music in the last 20 years, it's under-talented, over-produced,and possesses zero, class, style, or soul.
Congratulations to all involved for producing the musical equivalent of a Xerox machine.
Disappointed | February 24, 2009 1:26 PM
I've been a Hanson fan since '97 and have watched their music grow into what it is today (still pop, but with mature sound, genre experimentation, and creative lyrics).
Too bad this is now what people are going to think Hanson has been up to these past 12 years. This sounds like we're back in '97. Sorry, I do not like it and I'm sad it's what the public will see/hear of Taylor.
I am glad that some of you are enjoying it.
Those of you who do not like it, check out Hanson's newest music and you might be pleasantly surprised. Many of my friends have been.
holy hell thats taylor hanson?! | February 24, 2009 1:21 PM
i should probably be clear that I watched their video as well
Areocam | February 24, 2009 1:16 PM
This is classic American pop. Well crafted, with influences from the mainstream early 80's. It reminds me of The Cars with a fresh voice on top and Taylor's is sweet enough but not saccharine. Iha's guitar adds just enough credibility to allow it to be kind of acceptable in alternative circles. Well done. Worth another listen.

Funny to see how many people apparently feel threatened by a pop song. The amount of passion and angst expressed in this thread suggests that this is an extremely powerful song.

Well, tinted windows....this song it is really cool`if i would be 15 years old...but i a 25 years old....I am a big Fan of Hanson since 1997...a guy....and it is hard to accept this... As a Hanson fan i love this song, it would be hard to say NO I DON`T LIKE IT....
But this band could do it better...well, i am sure they want to get money out of it...and then continue doinfg what they are really good at, like music....
Andrea | February 24, 2009 12:53 PM
Very good comment, bford! And I love this song!
bford | February 24, 2009 12:47 PM
no.... I feel bad for the people that can't accept that there are MANY types of music.. and all of it doesn't have to be crap that is different and made different, just so "the chosen few" will think it is great.
Good music is good music.. if it's written for the few or the masses...
This band wasn't put together with a record deal.. they recorded these songs on their own.. the way they wanted them.. no AR people involved...just four musicians putting together a collection of songs, exactly they way they wanted them.
j.t.2009 | February 24, 2009 12:42 PM
I find it very amusing to read all the hate on these type of blogs. You sit at a computer listen to someone elses art and hard work and bitch about it. Yet... are you doing any better?
Are you just gonna bitch and moan about how bad this or something else "sucks so bad, blargh etc" ...or are you gonna try and make better music...or atleast what you define as better music?
These guys are all very talented and eventhough I personally think the song isnt up to par of what I was expecting, it doesnt mean it sucks.
And for all you hanson haters, have you tried listening to their last album..."the walk"...brilliant...and its funny to me that you all say they suck but they continue to sell out all shows they play(yes they have been putting out music and touring since mmmbop)...so if selling out big venues without any radio play of new music is considered "sucky" then count me in...
Pabsi Drums | February 24, 2009 12:37 PM
Ok. Itz catchy and fun, nothing like Hanson today... and TAYLOR can DO WAY MUCH MORE SINGING THAN THAT. Still, Im sure they wanna get to teenagers, so I believe they can make it. I know some people might just not get it, but i do. LOL im still a teenage inside....
Anyways, I love the song and I cant wait for the album. Whoot whoot 4 Tinted Windows!! <3

MusicMer | February 24, 2009 12:33 PM
4 Power Chords + Plenty of "Woah's" + Whiney voice + "Girl" in the song title = Shitty Pop Song...
Seriously is this the best we can do? I have nothing against simple pop songs a la Beatles or Rolling Stones, but at least there was some innovation there. I hear too many songs today that sound just like this. On the bright side, at least they aren't using the imfamous I-V-VI-IV progression, so thats a start.
silence | February 24, 2009 12:31 PM
Kevin, it's unfortunate that whether or not you have a dick depends on a song by a Hanson. I guess your maniless fails to survive on its own? Hmm.
Also, if you've done your research (as I've recently done), you'll find that a slew of musicians ranging from Eisley to the former members of the Grateful Dead to Carol King have teamed up with Hanson for songwriting purposes. You sound as insecure about music as any 14 year old emo child that I teach on a daily basis.
it may be hard for you to accept it... | February 24, 2009 12:29 PM
but everyone who thinks this band even remotely has something to offer has been successfully stupefied by the failing recording industry and state of globalized media. the same people are behind this that are behind taylor swift's incorrect usage of The Scarlett Letter and Romeo & Juliet. if you're shallow enough to be content with this dribble... well I think I know who is really damned. the sad/funny part is that you're all in hell, and you don't even know it!

BOLOGNA. | February 24, 2009 12:24 PM
Ya know - it sucks that people can't see past the image of the Taylor Hanson of MMMBOP and look at him as a musician. He's a great musician just like anyone else.
I think that its awful that people are judging the band solely because there is a "HANSON" in it. Really, are we still in 7th grade? He's got a good voice, I think it's going to help the band.
This is why the music industry has become complete crap. Its the same old manufactured bologna. But when you pull together 4 great artists and they create a so called "supergroup", people are still judging them based on who the members of the band are.
Music is music. A HANSON shouldn't be the reason that there is all this talk going on about the band. People should be talking about the band because they are good. Not just good, but very talented.
They'll go far. You'll see.
John from Cincinnati | February 24, 2009 12:21 PM
This is super cool. There was a reason why Thurston Moore was a Hanson fan. Perfect choice of drummer. James Iha was always miles and miles cooler than that whiner he was in a band with, some years ago.
r | February 24, 2009 12:16 PM
I honestly cannot understand how anyone can like this. This is horrible.
Anonymous | February 24, 2009 12:13 PM
I don't know why people are thinking that Iha's been brainwashed or something. Maybe he wanted to do some simple power pop stuff after the ridiculousness of SP.
Either way, It's good for what it is. Mindless catchy pop. ::shrug::
Zebber | February 24, 2009 12:04 PM
It's a shame that they're getting ragged on by people just because of Hansen... I mean for crying out loud, give the guy a chance. He is not doing mm-bop anymore, and it really is a good little pop song. I'll bet if you did not see the picture or who was in the band you would think different. Stupid ideology is what makes this world SUCK! Half you idiots that wrote something probably do not even know who Mr. Bun E. Carlos is.

The song is fun. It's not supposed to sound like the bands from which these members originated, and if you can't wrap that around your head, then I don't reckon there's much else to do.
Kevin | February 24, 2009 11:42 AM
This is why the music industry is dying fast. Just proves the fact that James is nothing but a sideman. At least in a perfect circle James held on to his credibility, but in this economy I'm sure he was thinking more about house payments than what the song actually sounded like. Jesus christ I wish I never even heard this pile of crap.

might sound good after another 10 listens...but it's too repetitive for me to try that right now.
i expected more from james (being a downright gigantic pumpkins fan) and taylor (whom i have kept aloof of over the years due to my cousin's love for him...)
No Billy = Fail | February 24, 2009 11:15 AM
The trouble is that Billy is a perfectionist and a true musical composer... and this song mostly sounds like James is banging out the three power chords he learned last weekend. There's no awesome layering like you're accustomed to in SP music. The vocals just make the song silly. Although most of the SP songs written by James seem to be more lighthearted, I was still expecting something more serious from James.

mmm ... I expected sooo much more, I mean Hanson stuff is great, but this, THIS!! is like the fucking Jonas Brothers!!! I hate it!
Raquel | February 24, 2009 10:59 AM
When I first hear about this band I was worried I would hate it. After hearing this song I fell IN LOVE! It's a new sound and Taylor Hanson really brings this band to life. I love that hes the lead singer and not stuck behind the piano ( even though I love his piano skills!) Everyone just fits together very well and it was not what I expected.
Mike D | February 24, 2009 10:41 AM
I'm going to give it 4 dismissive wanking motions out of 5
Linnie | February 24, 2009 10:36 AM
Yeah....I'm a huge Hanson/Pumpkins fan and wasn't all that impressed. It sounds very 80s chick-rockerish, and Taylor's vocals are generally SO much better than that. As far as the music itself goes (sans lyrics) it's alright; rather generic if you ask me. I think it'll do well on radio though, because it's catchy and you can tap your toes to it, and all the little teenie girls will love it.
I was expecting more, considering the lineup. I can respect the fact that all four guys are doing something (relatively) different (particularly for Iha) than what may have previously been done in other bands--that part is severely awesome. I just wasn't moved. Hopefully the CD will provide some more convincing material.
yea so uh... | February 24, 2009 10:21 AM
i think 90% of the people dogging on this band and new song, are doing so without really giving them a chance. seriously, lighten up
bford | February 24, 2009 10:19 AM
Strider...
Your comment is idiotic...
Adam Schlesinger is a hugely talented songwriter... critically acclaimed at that... Bun E. is a highly respected drummer.. Cheap Trick is a band that musicians love.... no matter what you think about Taylor.. the guy can sing... plenty of talent in this band..they just don't write music you like.. don't listen... see.. it's easy.

I thinks it's great! Thanks for the first listen and the heads up on a drop date. I'll def. be keeping an eye out for it!
Brenda | February 24, 2009 9:15 AM
"Then someone will say what is lost can never be saved
despite all YOUR rage YOU'RE still just a rat in a cage..." Ironic...
Don't you have anything more interesting to say besides trying to bash Taylor Hanson when you have no idea what he has been up to this last 10 years as a musician?
MarquisInSpades | February 24, 2009 9:14 AM
This is fun. All these guys are talented and Taylor sounds good on vocals. The buzzy guitars are great.
John | February 24, 2009 9:13 AM
*Yawn* .... I miss the pumpkins. This crap is the same ol mass produced crap of any manufactured band. Pumpkins always gave a new and thoughtful sound to listen to and make you feel. This is all about..."Let get drunk and make little girls think what they are listening to is cool. It has really well known artists. God how I long for real music again.
SP Colombian Fan | February 24, 2009 9:06 AM
I really like what you did with the pumpkins iha, but this?? what´s this iha?
No Avatar | February 24, 2009 9:00 AM
James, what have you become.
This is understandalbe from the Hanson kid, but come on, really guys? Who gave the green light on this?
Cautiously Enthusiastic | February 24, 2009 8:56 AM
I was expecting/hoping for something a little more mature, but this is really catchy and fun. I wish it was a little less produced but it makes me want to jump around so it's not all bad. I'll be keeping an eye on what goes on with this band.
Heloiza | February 24, 2009 8:50 AM
taylor is amazing....i love taylorrr
Difeernt.......but good! | February 24, 2009 8:42 AM
I really like this!! Yea, Taylor looks weird without his piano, but his voice is absolutely amazing!!
PopDog | February 24, 2009 8:33 AM
Wowzers! Way more pop than I expected but ... its too catchy for me not to love it. As for it going down in history? We'll see how we feel after we've heard it for the 1000th time on the radio.
I hope their other songs have a bit more.. diversity of topic, but the groove is truly great.
Anonymous | February 24, 2009 8:30 AM
boring as hell!
N | February 24, 2009 8:28 AM
I like it, classic powerpop but unqiue at the same time. Thanks for the early listen. I will be buying the album in April.
Taty | February 24, 2009 8:25 AM
I really hope TW hits BIG!
Anonymous | February 24, 2009 8:20 AM
Taylor Hanson is the lead singer, the main guy, so of course people will talk about him more.
Billy Corgan | February 24, 2009 8:18 AM
great song.
C Scott | February 24, 2009 8:17 AM
At first I was surprised to see that taylor hanson would have a side thing going on with a new "super group" and i didn't know how I felt about it. I mean, family seems to be his life, thus his band.
But after reading all the stuff about the group, I think its going to be a great band. 4 extremely talented musicians and all I can say is WOW.
Then I heard the song. I think this is awesome. What a great song, very fun, upbeat and different. Different certainly from what hanson has been lately.
Nicely done.
sw2surf | February 24, 2009 8:17 AM
Very reminiscent of classic (not current) Goo Goo Dolls. Good stuff.
Mmmshutup | February 24, 2009 8:16 AM
Everyone shut up about Taylor Hanson. Jesus Christmas!
*AJ* | February 24, 2009 7:59 AM
I like it, good job Ducky!
HansonFan7 | February 24, 2009 7:52 AM
So, I'm a HUGE Hanson fan, but c'mon guys... this ISN'T Hanson. Stop talking about them. I'm all for supporting Taylor, but this is a band of four talented musicians, all of whom deserve equal recognition. So, fine, go cheer on Tay and tell him how great he sounds and how much you love and support him, but please stop talking about Hanson - seeing as this has hardly anything to do with them - and please stop neglecting to comment on James, Adam, and Bun E.
And by the way, I'm TOTALLY digging the song. I'll be buying the album on April 21st!
(: | February 24, 2009 7:34 AM
i wasn't expecting the power-pop sound. i also wasn't sure about it at first but it has grown on me and i somehow think i'm gonna love it eventually.
it's very weird seeing taylor without his piano...
Taty | February 24, 2009 7:32 AM
To Saintsfan: Billy Corgan has been seen at SEVERAL Hanson's concerts and he has also said he is a huge Hanson fan.
It's really fun for me to see how poeple who talk bullshit about Hanson for being the "mmmbop boys" are acting so inmature and hysterical like any other fan of a poppy band. You just need to go and scream at a concert to get your diplomas!
Taty
Toasticles | February 24, 2009 7:19 AM
Saintsfan - you quite obviously have some kind of delusional control issues for a fan that clearly lives in his grandmother's basement and masturbates into a ZERO t-shirt. IMO Billy Corgan was what was always wrong with the Smashing Pumpkins, mediocre songwriting, HORRIBLE voice, and a complete control freak. They had like what? 7-8 good songs, one or two of which were really good. The rest was garbage. Now about this stuff, give me a good 3 minute power pop song every time. If I want to listen to anything longer than that I'll throw on Rush Hemispheres and take a bonghit. Keep rocking Tinted Windows and don't listen to these f'ing haters.
Anonymous | February 24, 2009 6:55 AM
excellent song, cant wait to see them at SXSW.
April | February 24, 2009 6:46 AM
I will admit, I am a huge Fanson to those of you criticizing Hanson fans...and I find a LOT of their fans, you know, scary...and obsessive, but there are a lot of normal ones who are just protective of this band and their music. We kind of all grew up together. Anyway, on the flipside, I am going to talk about Tinted Windows now. Okay, this band is a very odd group of guys and Taylor stands out like a sore thumb (he's like the baby of them all), but they're good and they will sale to the public. They're all brilliant, talented men who have many, many years of perfoming and dealing with the public under their belts. I believe they're all successful in their own ways and will bring it once they start touring and getting their music out. Yes, I wish they'd do something less bubble-gummy -- but this is what they picked and probably what they wanted to experiment with. If you like it, listen & support (from near and afar) ...if you don't, go away (find a different piece of music to love). Different strokes for different folks. :) That's all I have to say. I am very much looking forward to seeing whatelse these men have got for us. Here's to you all! CHEERS!
GO TAYLOR GO ! | February 24, 2009 6:17 AM

That's Just Bad | February 24, 2009 5:52 AM
The song speaks for itself – TER-RI-BLE!!!
That's the worse thing I've heard in ages, and I've heard a ton of bad music in my time...
100% bs | February 24, 2009 5:52 AM
To Saintsfan: you're damn right... Let Billy + Jimmy go alone rather then having such "talents" on board.
amazing!!! | February 24, 2009 5:15 AM
ok this is AMAZING!!!
The guitars are sooo powerPOP and taylor hanson's voice is absoulutely awesome!!!!!!!!!!!
Edgy and sexy!!!
don't even mention those fucking jonas brothers...they didn't invented anything!!!
Saintsfan | February 24, 2009 4:52 AM
As much as it sucks that James refused to rejoin the Pumpkins, this is that sole reason why he shouldn't have even been considered to rejoin......Out of 375 songs by Pumpkins (only 12 or so CO-wrote by James, and 1/2 he sung on) and this is what Billy should bother with in the studio....Believe this James, as an avid Pumpkins fan I just thought you were too tired of being told what chords to play on tour (of course, u didn't record much), but now I can see where the studio maniac/pretentious Billy is coming from.....This is one of those things that everyone close to Billy knows he feels is the problem with pop/rock music nowadays....So thanks James for proving to all of us that you never did and never will know how to put your HEART into music....Those "other guys" pf the Pumpkins that wrote and recorded everything (90% of thime) knew what they were doing on those records and lets just face it, you've just confirmed to the music industry that you are no more talented than any other SESSION MUSICIAN!...You should have just offered back the invite to Pumpkins b/c thats all you will have, because you are going nowhere fast musically and you've just "Blew Away" your artistic credibility!
Anonymous | February 24, 2009 4:32 AM
I don't get the fights on here.
I don't think it ti sounds like the JB, but even if it does I don't care. I like the song and if someone doesn't like the song, let them have their opinion.
Naturally not everyone is in the same kind of music.
Lisa | February 24, 2009 3:50 AM
Anybody who has residual dislike of Hanson from, what, 12 years ago, obviously hasn't been anywhere near the music industry in a long time other than stopping by their local Best Buy to pick up the latest TI disc. Hanson is quite respected in the industry as eclectic and talented performers, writers and producers.
As for the Jonas Brothers comparisons--the Jonas Brothers rip off classic power pop. But this is better than the power pop the JoBros write (and Taylor can woop their asses vocally). This sounds like something that comes directly from Fountains of Wayne, which makes sense. Just because you've been ingrained with the image of the JoBros the past year doesn't mean that others aren't making better power pop, or that power pop is somehow confined to guys on the cover of Bop Magazine.
Power pop may not be your thing, but this is hella catchy power pop. I don't think it's meant to be deep, nor do I think all supergroups have to make sulky introspective music to be considered legitimate. Sometimes musicians just want to have fun making music they actually want to listen to. These guys obviously like this stuff, and I do as well.
Jana | February 24, 2009 3:47 AM
All of you purported James Iha fans apparently never bothered to listen to his solo album. The dude likes happy, giddy music. Get over it.
To everyone making comparisons to the Jonas Brothers/Miley Cyrus/etc.: stop acting like they invented power-pop. They don't even do it that well.
James, Adam, and Bun E. can actually play and Taylor can actually sing. Now there might be some quality power-pop/New Wave out there for people with a soft spot for it, like me.
Anonymous | February 24, 2009 3:33 AM

i think a lot of people reading this are fans of one of the specific bands and is not looking at the compilation of all the artists into a new (hint keyword: new) group. I think its a pretty good radio song, I'd like to hear more from the album. the drums kick ass by the way.. whoever said they are just repetitive doesn't appreciate the awesomeness of Cheap Trick and Bon E. rock on!

I really like the song. Im excited for these guys!! What a TALENTED group of musicians. Can't wait to hear more!!
Eh.... | February 24, 2009 2:16 AM
I'm still indifferent. It sounds poppy and catchy, but at the same time, I personally am ready for something NOT poppy and catchy... but with a voice like Taylor's that's all youre gonna get. I do like the guitar in it, but, I guess being the Hanson fan that I am, Taylor's voice sticks out like a sore thumb.
I'm not gonna touch on the Jonas Brothers comments either...
I'm just thinking more now that it's just not my "Kind of a" style... I like all the artists in the band... but putting them together... eh, not so much. I agree with some others, I was rather disappointed.
SHUT THE FUCK | February 24, 2009 2:15 AM
You guys are fucking stupid, just because you DON'T like Hanson doesn't mean you need to trash Taylor. Taylor has an amazing voice & I honestly think this song has BIG potential for all the band members. Stop acting like all you idiots DIDN'T like "MMMBop" back in the day, everyone liked it so get over it & shut the fuck up. If you really don't like the band then do yourself a favor & get the fuck off the page & don't listen to it. Let the other people who like Taylor, Bun E., Ira, & Adam enjoy this.
Not to mention that I am a 12 year Hanson veteran. Been my favorite band since 1997 & I can honestly say this song reminds me of something that would have been played back in the 90's. It's obvious ALL 4 band members liked the song or they WOULDN'T have released it. All 4 band members combined is fucking AMAZING!
TINTED WINDOWS= FUCKING AWESOME <3
Sunny | February 24, 2009 2:15 AM
Oh my god. It really does sound like the Jonas Brothers. Who I don't like. But I adore Hanson. I feel confused...
Adibobea9 | February 24, 2009 2:04 AM
I was expecting something different knowing the type of stuff Taylor does on the side and having James from Smashing Pumpkins on board. I may not like the end result as much as I hoped, but it is definitely great for what it is meant to be.
I prefer Hanson as band and only pray that this radio friendly sound doesn't turn into the success that would break them up. As a side project I am all for it, but Taylor needs to come back home every few years as well…
Kristee | February 24, 2009 2:02 AM
I thought that with all the experience these guys have, that this song would be absolutely amazing, but I was totally disappointed!! I gotta say, based on that single, I don't know how this group is going to do ... bad choice for a first single. However, I'd like to hear more, to see if it does get any better.
Anonymous | February 24, 2009 1:58 AM
Ok let's just get this straight, as if it's not already obvious, Hanson came first, then the Jonas Brothers. And also this is just one song of the album, they're not all going to sound the same. And Jonas Brothers are a Disney product. Not this. Listen to the song a few times and it will grow on you
H-Love | February 24, 2009 1:48 AM
awful, I love pumpkins and James should have never set foot into this career killer. As for hanson and friends, it sounds like it will draw the love of 10 year old girls everywhere, so if that's the kind of fan base you dig then grab your shovels! if not, well maybe you should throw something heavy at all of those involved in this monstrosity of a side project and call it a day. Oh, and as for Jonas brothers comparisons, i think that's pretty accurate, a very dumbed down 80's rock. And for those who take offense, please realize i didn't choose for JOnas brothers to disgrace the name of music, they took up that mission themselves.
mmmrazorz | February 24, 2009 1:43 AM
"Everyone is hating on it because of Taylor Hanson"
no, the song sucks, it's as simple as that. i love taylor and all but this is just meh in my opinion
Long Time Caller, First Time Listener | February 24, 2009 1:41 AM
Personally, I find this song rather entertaining. Nice up beat tone with some power behind it still. Can't wait to check out the album and find out what other tracks there are. Something to look forward to.
Marcela again | February 24, 2009 1:29 AM
after listening a lots of times this track, and some Cheap trick's songs i can get it!!! My support for Taylor, i expect he dont leave Hanson...But I hope he try sing something harder once.
Love Hanson
Taylor have a great voice, hanson fans know it.
cool person | February 24, 2009 1:22 AM
The Jonas Brothers have a really weak sound. This is edgy and catchy and freakin' awesome!
Awesome Person | February 24, 2009 1:12 AM
This is the worst music ever-and I am even partially biased to some of the band members. These artists' music are supposed to have depth, and this does not. Taylor, I'm sorry. :( ily, but NO!

CBlake89 | February 24, 2009 1:09 AM

um..... Sh!t | February 24, 2009 1:07 AM
It does sound like Jonas Brothers and it is sh1t..... but who knows what the rest of the album will sound like... maybe Miley Cyrus
chodin | February 24, 2009 1:02 AM
This is effing awful. I mean, I can understand the "Fountains of Wayne" influence (because those guys sucked harder than my ex girlfriend). Seriously, I wouldn't even wipe my ass with this music. This is the soundtrack to every kid who ever hit their head and fell into a coma at a gay disco.
I'm going to go finger bang my ear and see if I can make the sounds come back out...ohhhh, ohhh, ohh, oh, ohhh, oh.

as a 12 year long Hanson fan, and life long Cheap Trick fan, at 19 years old, i love it!! It's catchy, great dance tune, a little different, but i think it's awesome!!!! I can't wait for the album!
Take this at its most visceral value and forget the names attached | February 24, 2009 12:38 AM
WTF at everyone saying this sounds like the fucking Jonas Brothers? This sounds exactly like a Fountains of Wayne song, and understandably so because of Schlesinger. The Jonas Brothers didn't invent power pop; they took whatever remained of 80s New Wave, sucked it through their corporate Disney machine, and crapped out the Hannah Montana-styled garbage we hear today. This Tinted Windows song is pure 80s power pop. Personally, it's not my taste. But all four of these guys are incredibly talented (yes, even Taylor Hanson for you skeptics; just check out the 4th Hanson album, "The Walk"--it's unfair to judge him when he was, what, all of 13 years old). It's a side project. They're probably just letting loose and having fun.
Billy Corgan | February 24, 2009 12:36 AM
James Cmon man you are better than that
Anonymous | February 24, 2009 12:34 AM
this stuff is better than Hanson and does not sound like the Jonas Brothers AT ALL...
Miranda | February 24, 2009 12:33 AM
I think I love it
Everyone is hating on it because of Taylor Hanson. He can sing and he can write and perform. So deal. It is different from Hanson but so what? It's good to hear something differnet for a change. Sure he is better in Hanson, the song quality if better but this will help draw attention back to that, and as long as the record deal was on the artists' terms then they aren't going against their fight agains the music industry because they aren't settling because they know they don't have to anymore. I can't wait for the rest of the album.
Melissa | February 24, 2009 12:31 AM
Why does this song have to sound so much like the Jonas Brothers before Nick's voice dropped?
Billy Corgan Friends | February 24, 2009 12:26 AM
This song really suck, James you desapointed me, i think you better than that
Pat | February 24, 2009 12:23 AM
WOW. With James Iha from Smashing Pumpkins in this, I had high hopes. Until I found out about the whole Hanson "thing". You know, the "thing" where "it" sings? Iha is a very good guitarist, and his voice is kinda likeable. Maybe if he was the vocalist, this would be better.
Actually, no it wouldn't, because the lyrics SUCK. And what's with the "a-woah-woah-ah-ah-woah" shit?
Least now we know James was really in SP for the money. This pop-trash just let the cat out of the bag. I think I'll puke.
Alex | February 24, 2009 12:11 AM
The song works. I think it will get radio play. And as far as Hanson fan or not You can tell the kid from Tulsa isn't just mmmbopin around any more. The guy can sing !!!
Liz | February 24, 2009 12:11 AM
I actually love it. I am so suprised at all the negative feedback it has gotten here. I think it's catchy and fun, and I think it could be a hit song. Granted it is a lot more pop than I was expecting, and I would like to see more substance in the album itself. I can't wait for the cd!
Kirstyn | February 23, 2009 11:50 PM
Its not a bad song could even do well on radio as its so catchy! Too bad the guys in the band are all over 16 though it definately has a young boy band feel :(
mmmrazorz | February 23, 2009 11:45 PM
i hate the song, i mean what the.....we don't need another jonas brothers
taylor, you can do better dude....i have to listen to been there before, got a hold on me ,or crazy beautiful to remind me that you actually have talent....
Lil J | February 23, 2009 11:40 PM
I personally think it's very catchy. However if you're looking for a song with deeper lyrical meaning, look elsewhere. All 4 musicians have such a tremendous amount of talent; I'm anxious to hear what the rest of the actual LP sounds like. Overall, I'd say I like the single so far but I'm guessing it won't be my favorite track.
Kristen | February 23, 2009 11:37 PM
All 4 of these men are amazing musicians - and I love all of their seperate bands - however...... This.. Is bad.
It's too pop.. too commercial.. too lacking of any depth..
I guess I could say it's FUN.. I'm going to stick to listening to Taylor Hanson in HANSON.. becaues there he thrives - this.. embarassed me as a Hanson fan..
I will however, tune in for the next song - maybe that one will be better - I suppose it's a really good POP song - it's just slightly.. weird to be coming from grown men -
Marcela | February 23, 2009 11:36 PM

Liz K. | February 23, 2009 11:30 PM
I love this catchy tune. It's too bad that people still can't get over the "if it's hanson, i hate it" stage. For one thing, it's not hanson. It's just Taylor Hanson. Kudos to him and the other members of Windows for using their genius and trying something different.
El | February 23, 2009 11:15 PM
I love it!! I don't understand why people always have to be so negative. I think it's quite catchy!

WTF!!!! | February 23, 2009 10:57 PM
First things first. How can any of you admit to being Hanson fans! Secondly James Iha, you sir have let me down. You should go and beg Billy Corrigan to do another Smashing Pumpkins album immediately.
Njosnavelin | February 23, 2009 10:57 PM
What is this? SOME KIND OF JOKE?
At least James' hair is still bangin'; that's all that really matters.
Lyri | February 23, 2009 10:46 PM
Jdog says: "This sound came as such a shock mainly because of Hanson's break off from their original label. They were so against making a "pop" album, or something so mainstream, and then he (with the collaboration of just as many talented artists to which I am just as surprised to produce this bs, my opinion, of course) produces the exact thing he protested? It's left me confused more than anything."
To Jdog: Let me begin by saying that I haven't read the whole discussion. But I don't think that Hanson is any way against good pop. They call themselves pop/rock. I don't think he's protesting pop music. I think he's protesting the way the music industry works and what Island Def Jam made them go through.
Whether you think TW is crap or not, their "pop"-ness is irrelevant to what's he's protesting. As long as they (meaning the 4 musicians) did something they liked, on their terms, then who cares if it's pop or not? I really doubt he does.
*Jess | February 23, 2009 10:40 PM

But I'm sure all those who like it will enjoy seeing Tinted Windows on tour with Miley Cyrus or some garbage. Now if you all will excuse me I'm gonna go listen to the Cure and cut myself. Iha I'm gonna call Corgan because you need an intervention bad.
Elly | February 23, 2009 10:26 PM
I think the new song is a smart move. We are supposedly in a recession and the song is very very radio friendly. People are more likely to go spend money on music that is catchy and feel good right now.
I like it, but I'm excited to hear more. I don't think you can judge a band by one song.
Beth | February 23, 2009 10:17 PM
What a great power pop tune! Taylor has a great voice and James' guitar work kicks...with Bun E driving the band...I love this. Their look is cool too. It's just kind of...odd reading the comments of the Hanson fan base stressing over their band and the Pumpkins fans who hate James for leaving.
Sabrina | February 23, 2009 10:15 PM
Can't wait to hear more! =)
Note to those saying it sounds too much like Cheap Trick/Fountains of Wayne etc...this group contains members of those bands! So, it would naturally be expected that their sound would/could incorporate a blend of what their previous bands sounded like! They all come from great bands who have made great music! I look forward to seeing what this collaboration brings in the future!!

NO JAMES NO!
DONT DO THIS TO YOURSELF!
Brittany | February 23, 2009 9:59 PM
They're four very talented guys, regardless of what band they are from. It's amazing that people still complain about Mmmbop...people...that song came out eleven years ago! Cut it out!
They sound awesome though and I can't wait to check out the rest of the album :)
Runawaywithtay | February 23, 2009 9:44 PM
This was interesting....I'm looking forward to hearing more from them to decide whether I like them or not....I love the sound of Taylors voice in the song...but it seems a little to "poppy" for this group of talented musicians. Maybe some of their other stuff is a little more rock and roll-ish? hopefully....
silveripseity | February 23, 2009 9:43 PM
Fuck yeah! I can't resist a good crunchy power-pop song with Taylor Hanson's vocals. This makes me want to get up and dance.
Ruphianh | February 23, 2009 9:41 PM
Seriously? I guess they needed a new theme song for the 90s remake of the Carebears or Smurfs.
I can't believe this came from a musician who sat beside Billy Corgan. He left to make this garbage? SERIOUSLY? If I was still in junior high or middle school, this is the kind of crap that would play at a school dance.
Blake | February 23, 2009 9:37 PM
I like it.
LOVES IT! | February 23, 2009 9:36 PM
This band is going to be great.
Christy | February 23, 2009 9:21 PM
Seriously people, no reason to be hateful. Just a respectful "I don't like it" would be fine.
But I do like it. I think this could turn out well.
Anonymous | February 23, 2009 9:18 PM
wwhere can you buy this song? its not on itunes.
i can see this on mtv | February 23, 2009 9:18 PM
seriously? they all look like 40 yr old sex offenders trying to get some jailbait ass. this was acceptable for hanson at 15...ten years later and james iha?! come the fuck on.
candy | February 23, 2009 9:17 PM
I so cannot wait for the album. LOVE IT!
Jeremy | February 23, 2009 9:16 PM
catchy song, it's fun and an ok tune; not as good as Hanson's regular stuff (not counting mmbop-I don't care much for that song)
mixed feelings | February 23, 2009 9:14 PM
wow I wonder what billy corgan thinks of this.
I have been very curious about this band and have to say with all those talented musicians its kinda a disappointment. It made me feel like I was watching old teenage 80's movie.

I've been a Hanson fan since the beginning. This song sounds nothing like them, then or now. I really hate to say it, but this song sucks. And it has nothing to do with who is in the band. The lyrics are horrible. Sorry guys.
Oh yeah, Hanson does not suck. Never has, never will.
You do.
Hung By A Guitar String | February 23, 2009 9:01 PM
Pretty excited about James Iha...then I actually listened to the song. This is horrible. Really, it's a terrible song, well actually, an attempt at a song.
aaron | February 23, 2009 8:56 PM
I dont know why bands go with catchy??? These guys have all pretty much made their money...If they just sat down and wrote something from the heart and spent some time on it maybe they could go down with some of the greats. Rethink your whole album Tinted Windows...seriously
iiiii love it | February 23, 2009 8:53 PM
and for all of you who can't get over the mmmbop days...seriously what is wrong with you...Hanson never left..they just stopped selling out and catering to the britney spears/50 cent/lil wayne music industry...their music is amazing... period.
also...This group is amazing..they are all so talented..give them a chance!
ouch | February 23, 2009 8:47 PM
it´s catchy, but that´s about it. I expected so much more.
Oh God I can picture the video, lots of teenage & early 20´s kids partying inside a house building up chaos with the band playing in the middle, uh-oh... and some people probably ending with all the clothes on inside the pool by the end of the song. Dang.
I expected so much more...
Hates this song | February 23, 2009 8:44 PM
Song sucks, but probably will be overplayed on the radio. No sorry....the song really really sucks.

Anonymous | February 23, 2009 8:34 PM
I like the song and think that it sounds like a radio hit, however I hope this is not the end of the band HANSON when Tinted Windows become a success. The band Hanson will always be special to me and there is nothing else that could ever replace the joy that I get from going to HANSON concerts.

This song is catchy and fun, thats all that matters. Who the hell cares if it sounds like the f'n Jonas Brothers, or if its not what people expected from James Iha (or any of the other members for that matter). It'll be one of the biggest summer hits, depending on how much radio play it'll be able to get. I cannot wait to see these guys at Bamboozle!

I wanted to avoid this part, but I feel the need. I apologize for the crazy hanson fans... :( I'm a big fan of the band myself and have had some horrible experiences with the weirdo fans, but hey it's not the bands fault. I hope it doesn't affect the TW fan base as well, but after reading the posts on here, seems like there will be a nice level of normalcy!

Klow!!!
noele | February 23, 2009 8:07 PM
i think the music is brilliant, power pop at its best!
Anonymous | February 23, 2009 8:05 PM
This is absolutely horrible. I expected better from talented musicians such as Bun E. Carlos and Taylor Hanson. Sure it's catchy, but since when has "catchy" meant it's a good song? There is nothing sincere, creative or original about this song, from the very first "woah" to the last. It sounds like Fountains of Wayne meets the Jonas Brothers. Way to go guys, I'm extremely disappointed.
Music | February 23, 2009 8:03 PM
Hey! I like it very much! It's an interesting combination. People stop getting on one another about fan clubs! Let's just enjoy this master picece of music.
Definitely Taylor Hanson spice up this project! I really like it!
Good job guys!

Jason | February 23, 2009 7:56 PM
They took me back to the 80's with this song!!
When nothing was more important than making stupid, cheesy music that was undeniable fun!
Fuck with the comments about sounding too mainstream... pop, rock, power pop wherever!!! it's a preety damn good song!!

TAYLOR HANSON, SING SOMETHING HEAVIER FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!!!!!
hitzjazzcat | February 23, 2009 7:49 PM
I was expecting way more from these guys. The song is catchy and fun, but it lacks the substance and creativity that all four members emanate. I was really excited about this, but if this is what they're choosing for their first single, I'm not going to hold my breath for an amazing album.
I'm sure the album will be fun to listen to, but I was really expecting something more innovative than this.

To the guy that didnt want to be known for buying a hanson song. Of course a million of other people bought it, this country is filled with idiots. Isnt Two and a Half Men one of the top tv shows? Must be good since millions of people watch it? Let me clue you in on something....
You can never go broke appealing to the lowest common denominators. I guess you are it.
Congrats.

a hell of a lot better than I expected, good track.

Fun, catchy power-pop song driven by a great beat from the one and only Bun E. Carlos!
Go Bun E. go!!! :-)
The Doctor | February 23, 2009 7:34 PM
You know I finally managed to figure it out, I wasn't sure which one of ya'll was stupidest but now I know ALL OF YOU!!! You guys judge Taylor so easily because he's a "Hanson" well news flash that's never going to change because band or not Hanson will always remain his name. So STFU and stop being so superficial about him and Hanson.
Freaking amazed | February 23, 2009 7:32 PM
post-pop with Iha??? I'm confused. But excited in a very very ashamed way.
:)
J | February 23, 2009 7:32 PM
I agree Kim, some Hanson fans are an embarrasment.
You would think they would be happy that Taylor HANSON is the lead singer of another band = extra music, tv appearances, tour dates...
snap | February 23, 2009 7:31 PM
sounds too much like fountains of wayne. i hope this isnt the end of hanson because that would be the end for taylor.
Traci | February 23, 2009 7:28 PM
I love all the bands the individual members came from, with special love for the Pumpkins and Hanson, and it makes me so incredibly happy to hear about this project! James has a strong pop leaning in a lot of his own song writing, just because Billy Corgan isn't screaming (very well) over it doesn't make it not rock. Listen to the guitar line individually and you'll hear James all over it. And it is refreshing to hear Taylor sing such overproduced pop, it will be interesting to see how the band is received out of the context of their former claims to fame.
Jdog | February 23, 2009 7:27 PM
Whoever just compared TW to The Beatles, kindly gtfo.
To Dusti: This sound came as such a shock mainly because of Hanson's break off from their original label. They were so against making a "pop" album, or something so mainstream, and then he (with the collaboration of just as many talented artists to which I am just as surprised to produce this bs, my opinion, of course) produces the exact thing he protested? It's left me confused more than anything.
And if by FUN you all mean wanting to claw one's own face off. Then yes. Yes, this is fun.
Bun E. Rules! | February 23, 2009 7:27 PM

Geez Rianna you are really concerned about this post. Calm down. HANSON HANSON HANSON HANSON TAYLOR HANSON...bet that got your panties all bunched up
Kim | February 23, 2009 7:23 PM
Seriously Hanson fans.... Hanson is great, don't get me wrong. But this is not about them! Taylor is part of THIS group, get over it. He's not leaving Hanson, he's not giving up on that music. He's doing this side project to do something a little different than normal.
You don't see fans of the other three bands on here all up in arms because one of the guys "left" the group. If you don't like the music, then don't listen to it, simple as that!!
Anonymous | February 23, 2009 7:20 PM
that Hanson boy has sure grown up! i like it.
Cookie | February 23, 2009 7:18 PM
I think this song is great! I don't understand why some people were expecting to hear a certain type of song. It's 4 guys from 4 different bands that came together to make an album that is different from the music they normally make. They will still make the music that you are used to hearing but what's wrong with doing something different on the side and having some fun with it?
And give Hanson a little more credit people! MMMBop was ages ago and their music now is nothing compared to that.
Can't wait to hear the rest of this album!!
dutty | February 23, 2009 7:17 PM
Sounds like Cheap Trick.
Ari | February 23, 2009 7:14 PM
I'm really surprised to hear this come out of this collaboration. Frankly, I've even surprised to see this come from Taylor Hanson. Hanson's music has become a lot more rock, and a lot less mainstream. In fact, it's a reaction against mainstream radio. To see him singing pop songs like this makes me scratch my head a little... it's not my cup of tea, but maybe there will be a few heavier songs on the full LP.
Spider-Man. The actual Spider-Man, not some imposter. | February 23, 2009 7:12 PM
Sounds like Taylor wanted to rip off all the opening bands they've had for the last 3 or 4 tours.

That music has its rights, it's nothing forever but for a nice weekend sometimes just what one needs
This is like Roxette were in their best days - listen e.g. to "Green Tambourine".
It's Bubble Gum Pop, instant sunshine as I'd call it or as Bono puts it "You know what it is but you still want some of that lovey-dovey stuff".
Anonymous | February 23, 2009 7:09 PM
top song. its like Taylor Hanson with his backup band/singers.
Lori | February 23, 2009 7:07 PM
Well, Taylor Hanson is in the band...So it could never be too bad, but Tay I hate to say it, stick with the Hanson day job. All in all it's ok.
Anonymous | February 23, 2009 7:06 PM
I love the song, very catchy! I could care less if the lead singer of this band is the one who sang "Mmmmbop".
I think "Mmmbop" is a great pop song, and judging by the millions of copies "Mmmmbop" sold I'm not the only one who thinks that.
power pop lover | February 23, 2009 7:03 PM
i love power pop and this is just that i don't know what people wanted out of a band who said they where power pop from the start but it's good happy times music
Rianna | February 23, 2009 7:02 PM
This thread is about Tinted Windows people! It is NOT about Hanson, so STFU about them. It is a side project. Jesus, anyway. I thought the song was cute, will get good radio play and it sounds like Adam had a huge influence on the song. I think it will sell well.
Anything with James Iha in it has to be at least credible with respect don't you think? The guy is amazing!
But there is another part of me that thinks the band won't do well... simply because of Taylor Hanson. Great voice, nice guy but the fans are kind of be all end all.
Its the reason that I have had trouble liking Hanson. Too many idiot fans. I have tried so hard over the years to get into them but the fans are freaky and obsessive, I would be scared to even go to a concert with them to the point.
They have an obessive ownership over the band and will tear new fans to pieces if they like Tinted Windows but don't like Hanson. It is ridiculous.
Jaysin | February 23, 2009 6:58 PM
That song was truly unremarkable.
SD | February 23, 2009 6:54 PM
This is not the music for those that dislike like Power Pop because that's exactly what it is.
After listening to it several times I've decided I like it but it's nothing like Hanson's music. If your still bashing the sound of singer from a song that was out 12 years ago maybe you should open your mind a bit and listen to how they have changed since then.
This song has a different blend of sound with the other artists playing on it and it sounds like they are really enjoying working together.
I like the power pop/rock sound mixed with Taylor's voice.
It might not be for everyone but maybe some of the other songs on the CD will have something people like more. I like the short clip of the song "Messing with my head" that's on the Tinted Windows website even more.
hmmm | February 23, 2009 6:53 PM
I wish they'd step it up a notch. This sounds too much like Hanson. I'd like to hear Taylor trying something heavier.
Leeners | February 23, 2009 6:52 PM
"From this song you can clearly hear that this band is a POWERPOP band.... many here don't seem to understand what that type of music is about.

It's not bad. Catchy.
Ehhh... | February 23, 2009 6:43 PM
For power pop it's a catchie song... but it's just ehhh
I'm a Hanson fan and because of that I WANT to like this so that I can hear Taylor sing in new songs... but I've listened to it twice and it's just not doing it for me. Too bad.
A nobody | February 23, 2009 6:42 PM

The Doctor | February 23, 2009 6:40 PM
Ok, here are my words now, I like this song a lot Taylor Hanson or not. Give the guy a break those of you who are being retarded and referring to him in the days of mmmbop. Don't be so stereotypical to him, he's a great person and an awesome musician. You can't knock it until you try it. As for my fellow Hanson fans. Chillax, people are entitled to their opinions to what they like and don't like. Hanson fans and upcoming fans of Tinted Windows need to get themselves together and come to face the fact that we all are going to be united together whenever they play shows. So suck it up and give the band a chance.
ana raquel | February 23, 2009 6:39 PM
i thought it was going to be sth heavier. its nice to hear taylor singing sth heavier than hanson, but i was hoping it was even heavier!! i thought it was ROCKNROLL!!
elle | February 23, 2009 6:35 PM
I like it.. fun, catchy - easy. Who cares if it doesn't have some deep lyrical meaning? Music is just supposed to make you feel good! Love Mr. Hanson's vocals =)
Helen | February 23, 2009 6:32 PM
Oh guys, I really don't think posting a comment here is going to affect the sales of this song, either good or bad. So instead of focusing on the other bands the members are in, how about lets go with the sound of Tinted Windows? I love it, very catchy, edgy and different to lots out there, so I'll be buying the album. If you don't like it, I wouldn't leave them yet, do you like every song a band brings out?? Their other stuff sounds pretty good too, so stick with them, they might surprise you!
Polly | February 23, 2009 6:31 PM
I wonder if they hadn't named who was in the band, and people still listened to it, if they would actually like it, knowing that Taylor from Hanson is in the band. Some people are so ignorant. Seriously, get over it. Hanson doesn't sound anything like they did back in the 90's.
Curious | February 23, 2009 6:29 PM
I don't think this band stands a chance, not because I think they are bad, but because their fanbase will probably consist of mostly obsessive Hanson fans. I love Hanson but I hate alot of their fans.
bford | February 23, 2009 6:23 PM
From this song you can clearly hear that this band is a POWERPOP band.... many here don't seem to understand what that type of music is about.
It's about crunchy guitars....catchy choruses with huge hooks... lots of background vocals... and FUN.....
It's not about writing lyrics that are going to change the world.... or trying to make music that is so different that people will think.. I've never heard that before.
If you aren't into powerpop then you won't like this song. If you are.... well.. this song contains a lot of things the genre is about.
I have to say I really like Iha's playing on this song. He was the member I wasn't sure about.. IF it was going to be powerpop.. I just don't know enough about his style outside of playing with the Pumpkins to know what direction his playing would take.
I don't think this band is about making tons of dollars.. I don't hear this style of song on the radio, so I'm sure they know it won't be huge....
I think this band got together to make music that THEY like and have FUN doing it... not every band has to save the world or be exactly what YOU want... I wasn't sure I was going to like this.. but I do..

This is what's wrong with music. uninspired, hallmark-y, its so over the top Poppy that i can't believe anyone anywhere at anytime would ever take this seriously. The second I heard it I immediately envisioned every mid 90's disney movie "love" montage. People need to start differentiating between "guilty pleasures" and absolute S###.

Been a Hanson fan for 12 odd years now amd have to say that this is a fun catchy song, a song i would exspect from the Jonas Brothers not 4 really talented guys. This song is fluff it has no substance at all and deserves to be played on disney radio! Hanson is so much better then this cratchy crap! Taylor really turned out to be a bit of a sell out.

Last time I checked this was supposed to be about the Tinted Windows...not about Hanson. I don't understand how "Fansons" can be so bitchy about the fact people don't like the music. This has nothing to do with the band Hanson. People either like or dislike the "Tinted Windows". Hanson really has no releavance to "this" band so stop compairing/ defending/ slamming them about it.
geez. | February 23, 2009 6:03 PM
& I agree with bford. It's not even Taylor Hanson. It's very obviously Adam Schlesinger that pulled them in this direction.
geez. | February 23, 2009 6:01 PM
Hanson fans are way too defensive.
Those of us who are saying we don't like it - it's not anything to do with the fact that Taylor Hanson is in the group. Most people respect him as a musician, but just simply don't like the song. No one is bashing Hanson's accomplishments.
and the girl who said that they were desperate for money for getting involved in something like was, was probably not even talking about Taylor Hanson, but more about Bun E. Carlos and James Iha.

For all you complete ignorant people posting negative crap about is, grow the hell up. You guys have no idea what you are talking about. Would you start a charity doing mile walks barefoot to help families in Africa dying of AIDS and poverty? Would you have the guts to start your own record label? Did any of you make an album when you were only 14 years old, and have coninued success ever since? Hanson is much more than so-called "crappy bubble gum pop" and MMMBop. And this band sounds nothing like Hanson anyways, not like you morons would know because you've never listened to any of their amazing newer stuff. Do all us Fansons a favor and please listen to their stuff before posting idiotic comments, because obviously you guys have no idea what good music is.
Anyways, I'm definitley going to be buying the album when released in April. Can't wait!
cough cough | February 23, 2009 5:54 PM
Personally I was leaving the fact that Taylor Hanson was in a boyband Hanson at the door. I just don't feel that they mesh together as good as they could with a different frontman and better writing. The lyrics are so bad.
JOOOOEE ]]] | February 23, 2009 5:51 PM
Catchy, but the lyrics suck
I was expecting more from this band, considering that it has James and Taylor on it, two great musicians.
i hope they have better songs.
Hanson's #1 Fan.12 years and counting | February 23, 2009 5:45 PM
Oh yeah and NO Taylor is not desperate for money. Before you post ignorant comments you should check into what Hanson has been doing since they have been out of the spot light. They still have many devoted fans and plenty of money. They started their own record label- 3CG Records- and support the indie movement and indie artists. Hanson just played over 100 shows the past year and a half. Their fans support them no matter what.

It's awesome! It sounds nothing like Hanson's music. It is really mainstream. But I'm down for a catchy pop tune! Though it doesn't hold a flame to Hanson's music....P.S You guys need to grow up and get over your immature 1997 mmmbop hatin' attitudes. Taylor is an amazing musician. If you don't like pop move along, but seriously what multi platinum album did you release when you were 13? EXACTLY

I'm kinda surprised by all of the negative comments. It sounds like an edgier Beatles song to me. In fact, I think the Beatles did quite well.
Taylor's voice sounds soulful and fantastic, but this song isn't as rock-influenced as Hanson's tunes.
I still like it, and I'll definitely be buying the album.

Very nice crunchy power pop! If you like power pop, you're going to like this. If not, you probably won't.

I love it!!! it's so catchy and powerful.I like the Taylor's voice, it sounds different.

I had high hopes for such talented musicians! This is a disappointment! It will probably do great on the radio with all the other manufactured pop songs.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! VERY VERY UPBEAT! PERFECT TO WORK OUT TO OR JUST TO JAM! THANKS!!
I don't want to leave my name. | February 23, 2009 5:31 PM
This song is a big piece of shit. I can't decide who is the worst member. I am sure all the creeps that listen to Hanson are going to say hoe great it is. Who are you all trying to kid? This song really really sucks. Thanks for wasting my time!!

poppy, crap geared toward 11 year olds. Boo...stop trying to manufacture talent and instpiration. It either comes naturally or not at all. That's the major disconect between management and musician. Much like the last 8 years of government vs. the people. So keep it up lame management...you are on your way to getting fired just like Bush!! Right-fully so!

For all of you saying that this sounds like Hanson and that's why it sucks, you are so, so wrong! Why don't you go and actually LISTEN to Hanson's newest album and do the homework before making such an untrue statement...this is CLEARLY nothing like Hanson's sound. Hanson are not power pop at all!

i think people here need to get down from their musical soapbox and just learn to relax and listen to a fun song...and i think this is a fun song!
i thought it was just ok the first time i heard it, but i like it more and more each time i listen to it.
noenoenoele | February 23, 2009 5:19 PM
i think its amazing power pop.
whomever made the comment about wannadies, i can see that totally, i loved them and this song! it makes me happy and KUDOS to TW for doing a fun, free spirited FIRST SINGLE.
all the haters need to take a picture of their heads up their ass, i've always wondered what the inside of a rectum looks like.
Molly | February 23, 2009 5:19 PM
It's catchy, power pop. Not really earth shattering.
Holly | February 23, 2009 5:18 PM
This song sucks...another boy band
HansonFan | February 23, 2009 5:18 PM
Julie - I agree that the song sucks, but it isn't Hanson's sound they took. I even expected better from Taylor Hanson.
It's Fountains of Wayne's sound this band takes after, unfortunately. Stacy's Mom anyone?
A tinted windowed van with a free candy sign | February 23, 2009 5:17 PM
James, I see you've dug up Andy Warhol's wig. Honestly though if you were to take away Taylor Hanson's vocals and horrible song writing, this might be a mediocre pop song. The fact the drummer from Cheap Trick is in a band called Tinted Windows with a very feminine looking Taylor Hanson kind of leaves a queezy feeling in my gut.
Julie Hunter | February 23, 2009 5:16 PM
Bummed. So very, very bummed. I feel like my ability to orgasm has been efficiently removed. I was expecting sooo much more from James than to buy into a Hansen sound. And to the poster above that said we ALL loved Hansen back in their day...NEGATIVE.
This is SUCH a rip job and waste of good talent.
Why Bun E, Why............. | February 23, 2009 5:15 PM
would you sign onto this project? This is crap. 'nuff said. Is this song going to make Radio Disney's top 30?

I do still have hope for the rest of the album, despite the disappointment of this song

Bee Girl | February 23, 2009 5:12 PM
nothing special.. i mean its fun and catchy
but there's no innovative element or sense of inspiration or creativity...
the lyrics are poor and weak
not a bad song though , if you consider the majority of shitty music that's been around
these days

bahblah | February 23, 2009 5:11 PM
the song is pretty good written actually imo. i'm not a fan of tayloy's voice, which is also mixed way to loud, but it's a pretty good pop song.
Billy Corgan...again | February 23, 2009 5:11 PM
You suck.
TWFAN | February 23, 2009 5:10 PM
Yes...Marcos...this is produced crap even though it's through an indie label. If you can't feel my sarcasm then it's obviously a foreign language to you. Just an extra FYI, Hanson left a major label because they were being told what to sing, told to just "make one song that can be a hit", and it was Taylor that basically led a revolt against being told what to like. So......those things put together kind of says you're an idiot that just can't handle that maybe someone wanted to make a record that was fun.
And thank you TWFAN. I do hope that listeners that like power-pop will enjoy this regardless of it being Taylor Hanson's voice, and to be honest, I hope that the crazy fans stay the hell away.
-You are welcome (:
Agreed!
Jax | February 23, 2009 5:09 PM
To all you peeps that have left negative comments--especially the "if you like this song you know nothing about music and art". That statement CLEARLY shows how "uneducated" you people are. This is very different from what Hanson normally writes and produce....but people----THIS ISN'T HANSON!!! But since we're on that note--- I'm sorry but were you out there writing MMMBOP and just so happen have the ability to support your great grand kids off of this song?--NO!! (thats what I thought). Great Band!!! AND EVEN BETTER THAT TAYLOR IS IN IT! We need more bands like this to keep the music live and going. This is how TRUE, REAL music is developed. Just fucking around on your instruments in some garage... Keep up the good work Guys!!!! I will most definitely buy the album when it comes out.

- If you are referring to Hanson's older stuff, then maybe...but if you are talking about their recent sound, I have to say I disagree. This song sounds nothing like what Hanson is doing. Completely different.
hmm | February 23, 2009 5:07 PM
I was really excited when I heard about this project but feel kind of let down - what a great deal of talent is going on in this group, and this is what they come up with? It's not terrible, but is just kind of generic pop. I keep thinking they're going to be like "Haha, just fucking around... here's the real song."
Kate | February 23, 2009 5:04 PM
This sounds great, it's nice to hear Taylor sing on a more power pop tune than the usually bluesy-Hanson stuff.

Oh btw, I like the song ;) even though it has nothing to do with the music Hanson makes these days.

Everyone can stop getting all self righteous about "music consumption," complete with extraneous quotation marks. What do you listen to? What makes it better or worse than this? Just because something is purposely obtuse doesn't make it better than accessible music, and if you're listening to music BECAUSE it's inaccessible and obtuse, than you're a bigger douche than the "sheep" you're deriding for listening to a damn pop song. Stop it.

Hanson is vastly underrated. hating on MMMbop is just too easy, I defy anyone else to write a song that catchy and popular when you're in middle school. And they've come a long way since then. I am very excited about this project.
a neutral listener | February 23, 2009 4:18 PM
First time around, wasn't interested at all. The verses are awkward. Gave it a few more tries found myself tapping my toes in spite of myself. At this point I'm sold. I really like the bridge, and I like Taylor's voice. I'm hoping the other tunes are more interesting- this is pretty generic power pop, as solid as it is. "Messing With My Head" sounds like a good song. I look forward to hearing the rest of the record.
TWFAN | February 23, 2009 4:17 PM
Dusti, I totally agree with you. It drives me crazy how many people are going to the TW myspace and saying "oh Taylor you're so great" and "Tay I'm so proud of you"...blah blah blah. It's like some of them are forgetting that this is an actual band, not Taylor Hanson going solo. I believe all the others deserve the same equal attention as Taylor is getting.
I will admit though, I did jump on this because I have an equal love for Hanson and Cheap Trick so I was excited to hear Bun E. and Taylor would be working together...but then when I heard Adam and James, I loved it even more. This music is very catchy and fun, and fits very well with radio format!
Anonymous | February 23, 2009 4:13 PM
Pretty Vanilla. Not awful, and I would say that I expect more from Iha, because Mayonaise is by far one of the Pumpkins best songs...But then he attempted to sing on Mellon Collie....As for Hanson, not a big fan - this sounds a bit like a new version of MMMM bop. It's a bit too polished for me, sounds like a band with no edge, trying to have one.

Honestly, the biggest problem this band is gonna encounter is from the same vein: Hanson fans and people associating this with Hanson.
There are so many already jumping on the bandwagon just because of Taylor being in it, and many of them are just praying that "this doesn't hinder his own band!!" Then, there will be the folks shying away because of the Hanson influence.
It's actually not a bad thing. This is actually pretty close to where I wanted Hanson to go after This Time Around came out. But I'm glad to finally hear it regardless.
It still has some edge but it's upbeat and catchy and I think that if people can forget the two major things wrong then this could really be a hit. It's good music that fits in right now.
I want this album. NOW.

Whoa! Seconds the "oh snap! I love it!" sentiment!
Kizzle | February 23, 2009 2:24 PM
R.I.P. Hanson. Just you wait.

I'm quite digging it really. It's catchy and fun
makes you want to sing along. :) Better than what I expected. Never was a Fountains of Wayne fan. The other bands I like however

it is an awesome song...!!!!!!!

I love this song. Unfortunately, they're going to have to deal with the close minded folk that can't wrap their head around Taylor Hanson being in the band. Oh well, their loss!

Now, it's not too different, as Taylor's singing lead, but it is still slightly more edgy.
And it's weird hearing him without Isaac or Zac, but I like it.
I cannot wait to hear more!!!

I like this. The Fountains of Wayne sound still dominates, but minus the cynical edge. I didn't dig Traffic and Weather as much as I did their previous albums, so I hope this (and the next FoW album) is where Adam Schlesinger gets his mojo back.
Really Scaggs? Really? | February 23, 2009 11:59 AM
I know of certain other bands with incredible music who have offered debuts to Scaggs and he has ignored them completely. Then he puts this up? What????????? Really Scaggs?
