Rumors Fly About New Bob Dylan Album

While the Smoking Section is in no position to confirm or deny the existence of a spankin' new studio album by Bob Dylan, we thought we should tell you about some of the news we've read on hardcore Dylan fan sites.

A post at neverendingpool.com reads, "A completely new Bob Dylan album is in the can. Our understanding is that the album was recorded last October in California.... The album is expected to contain ten tracks... There are also rumors that the musicians are not all from the current touring band."

Another site elaborates, "Donnie Herron [who plays a variety of stringed instruments in Dylan's band] did say that they cut several songs with Mike Campbell [of the Heartbreakers] at a large L.A. studio. I know Benmont Tench [the Heartbreakers' keyboard player] was also working on that project."

Sounds pretty sick, right?

Looks like the hypothetical album may be released in late April.

Dylan is on such a ridiculously hot streak right now -- Modern Times and Love & Theft, not to mention Telltale Signs -- that this new shit is definitely going to blow our minds!

dylan says in some article in rolling stone interveiw(right before modern times hit)that he doesnt consider a trilogy starting with time out of mind but rather with love and theft and that means this new album would complete the triolgy...time out of mind sounds nothing like love and theft or modern times its much more blues oriented and the recording sounds more electronic...at any rate dylan is bound for glory with this new album...i just hope he comes back to america for a tour so i can see the show before he dies.

I find it sad that Rolling Stone has to resort to quoting third-rate fan sites for news. That place is an utter piece of shite.

You got the title of Tell Tale Signs wrong.

Could be some new sound possibilities with that line-up...signaling a different direction now that the "trilogy" is complete... April is too far away!!

What are you, Austin, like 12 years old? "Sounds pretty sick, right?" "This new shit is definitely going to blow our minds!" I mean, like, I know dude, this is the Interwebs and all, but whatever...

Journalism | February 18, 2009 11:00 AM

What kind of reporters does Rolling Stone have working for them? "Sounds pretty sick, right?" Why, because two Heartbreakers are on the record? He's worked with them many times. Really, "this new sh*t is definately going to blow our minds?" Who is this written for? Dylan fans? Hoobastank fans?

A working title for the album is rumoured to be "Music For Taxi Drivers" but why?...

"Modern Times" has a classic New York Taxi blurred art photograph on the cover.

Bob took a taxi to see Neil Young's home in Winnipeg this fall.

He rode in a taxi with Lenny Bruce, and wrote it into a song.

Don't forget his ride with John Lennon -- in a taxi!

Check out Dylan's chauffeur work in the video for "Unbelievable" and more...

Don't forget Time Out of Mind, maybe Dylan's greatest with Blood On The Tracks and Blonde On Blonde. Still, you're right, it should be amazing, and with Campbell and Tench all the better.
