have to admit i hadnt heard much of the kings before oxygen08, loved it, then new album came out an i was blown away! However since listening to all there albums now i prefer the older stuff, love it all but the energy of aha shake heartbreak is brilliant, looking forward to the future an enjoying the present..

That must have been an excellent show. This is my first visit to the Smoking Section. Can I stay? : ) Great work on the blog!

I too was at this show at MSG and it was outstanding. A great mix of old and new done with high energy. The audience loved every minute. And the band enjoyed it. So everybody should stop over analyzing and just enjoy a great band in its prime. I did.

Kate you are really lucky to have seen them at the garden. John, you my friend, are retarded. I bet you listen to slip knot, don't you? KOL gives me faith in new music and that is all that I can ask of them.

Only By The Night is a good album but prior to this there was something unique about their sound, Caleb's vocals were untouchable, no one could mimic him, or the rest of the band for that matter, they sounded like no other band around. With this album it's a lot more polished and mainstream, whilst there is absolutely nothing wrong with this, it has just made them sound like a very ordinary rock band. They took a huge risk with this record and it paid off because it has attracted them to a wider audience but it will be interesting to see how many of the 'Sex On Fire' fans will stick around if the band changes musical direction again. I am very pleased they are finally gaining the recognition they so rightly deserve but I am hoping they come up with something completely innovative for album number five.

Kings of Leon do not sound like U2. Their sound has changed, but it's natural progression. They don't want to make 4 cds that sound like Aha Shake Heartbreak, they want to make the music that inspires them.
It's about time they get the recognition they deserve in my opinion. Only By The Night was a fine album.
John | February 2, 2009 9:26 AM
They blow, they used to be entertaining to listen to, until they made the decision that sounding like U2 and selling shitty records was more important than writing good songs
yo | February 2, 2009 9:21 AM
What is with the one set and then four encores? kinda takes some of the energy out of the show
Kate | February 1, 2009 11:21 AM
I was at this show...such a stellar show. these guys are great live. and they had a killer set list at the garden. it was great that they didn't just play their new stuff, and worked in the best songs in my personal opinion from each album.
