Maynard James Keenan Unleashes Puscifer

December 3, 2008 12:13 PM

Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan's offensive side project, Puscifer, will make its live debut on February 13th at the Pearl at Palms Casino in Las Vegas.

Puscifer originally began as a comedy project before Keenan hit it big with Tool. "Puscifer generally started off as a name that I was attaching to some of the comedy things I was doing with comedian Laura Milligan at this club called Tantrum on Hollywood and La Brea," Keenan said.

The band's hilarious debut album, V is for Vagina, was released in 2007.

Check out the video below for "Country Boner" to see what they're all about.

I think that the whole point of the song is to poke fun at how incredibly, mind-numbingly simple country is. The song was meant as a joke, and I think it's a pretty good one. I have heard too many people compare Puscifer to Tool and tell me about how disappointed they are because they expected something more "Opiate-ish." These two bands are completely separate entities. Don't get me wrong, I love Tool (have since I was given the Opiate cd right before Undertow came out). I just don't think that comparing/contrasting these two incredible bands is a good idea. I think "V is for Vagina" and the remix cd, "V is for Viagra" are both superb, dark, sexy, and funny; and also that time and time again Maynard proves just how talented he really is.
