Grammys, Again

Year after year, "What the fuck?" is the thought that runs through our heads after Grammy nominees are announced.

But let's start with the positives:
John C. Reilly might actually win an award for singing "Walk Hard."
NARAS gives love to Snoop Dogg for "Sexual Eruption" (and doesn't refer to it by it's PG title "Sensual Seduction")
Johnny Greenwood earns a nomination for Best Score with his amazing work on There Will Be Blood.
Al Green -- the greatest male singer ever -- gets four mentions for Lay It Down.
Finally, Kings of Leon got some love from the Grammy committee with three nods.

And the negatives:
Boyz II Men nominated for Best R&B album (seriously, we didn't know they were still alive)
The most pathetic list of tunes ever are vying for Song of the Year.
We actually think the Jonas Brothers deserve Best New Artist.
Coldplay nominated alongside Kings of Leon, Metallica, Raconteurs and Kid Rock for Best Rock Album. Huh?

And the most painful fact:
Gwyneth Paltrow -- up for Best Spoken Word Album for Children -- received more nominations than Bob Dylan, MGMT, TV On the Radio, Vampire Weekend, Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks, Fleet Foxes, Jack Johnson, Black Keys, the Roots, Blitzentrapper, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds and Lucinda Williams.

Our prediction: The Grammys will be owned (and deservedly so, looking at their competition) by Robert Plant and Alison Krauss.

Who do you think will be the big winner???

I am hoping KoL will take home all they are nominated for. They are the best band in all their catagories. I love KoL

It's embarrassing that the U.S. is finally catching on to KOL behind the rest of the world even though they are from this country.

KoL deserves a lot of credit. I personally like their old stuff more, but it's still better than American Pop music. I like that Adele comment, she would eat a trophy.

I agree that Plant/Krauss will be the big winners. They should be, too. Have you heard Raising Sand? It's awesome!

Radiohead finally deserve the recognition that they have never recieved. So many good artists are finally deserved of nominations. My Morning Jacket, KOL, Eddie Vedder, and the Racontuers to name a few. Of course it's an American award show so ya gotta deal with the bullsh*t of these awful acts that do not deserve anything other than a punch in their faces.

Crossing my fingers for KoL, they deserve it.

The Grammy's suck big time. Kings of Leon, Gary Allan and Dylan should take it all. Ditto Vampire Weekend and Lucinda Williams.
Radiohead SUCKS!

I second the push for Radiohead to get Album of the Year. "In Rainbows" is brilliant, a true work of art.

big winner = | December 4, 2008 2:56 PM

i wonder i she'll eat her trophy.
