We were so devastated to miss Van Morrison's performances of Astral Weeks at the Hollywood Bowl last month.
We felt a little better when we heard that Van was planning on releasing live recordings from the two gigs sometime before Christmas (on vinyl!), and a CD/DVD after the new year.
But those plans have been shelved, and we couldn't be happier.
The L.A. Times is reporting that Morrison is planning to bring Astral Weeks to New York City in early 2009!
After all, this is where he recorded his masterwork, 40 years ago!
Joy.

Funny you acknowledged Lester, considering he stands for everything (namely: inspired prose, sharp originality, journalistic innovation, musical TRUTH) that Rolling Stone dismisses. Please talk to Mr. Wenner and figure out a way to right the magazine. You guys could use another Lester.
First order of business:
Decide who the hell you're trying to reach. Baby boomers? Miley fans? Hip-hop enthusiasts?
Start there. You and I both know that the magazine is a shambles.

I don't mind waiting until Feb. for the live recording as the L.A. Times article stated - it's a short amount of time to wait for perfection (certainly shorter than "Chinese Democracy").
That said, I'm getting REAL antsy for the 3rd and 4th rounds of Van Morrison reissues. The 3rd round (which included "Saint Dominic's Preview" and "Hymns to the Silence") was supposed to be released in Sept., then postponed to Nov., now I'm hearing next month; the 4th round (which included "Hard Nose The Highway" and "Too Long in Exile") was originally slated for next month too. What gives? Austin, do you have any details about this?

That's fucking great! And thanks for posting the Lester Bangs piece, nice to see him back in Rolling Stone, even via a clickable link.
