Andy Samberg is Incredibad

Saturday Night Live's golden boy Andy Samberg will be putting out a comedy album, titled Incredibad, next February, and you can expect it to be just as raunchy as "Dick In A Box" and "Jizz In My Pants." A slew of "real" musicians will join Samberg on the album, including T-Pain, Norah Jones, Jack Black, E-40, the Strokes' frontman Julian Casablancas and Justin Timberlake.

The album is a product of the three-man team known as the Lonely Island, comprised of Samberg and fellow SNL writers Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer.

"We definitely wanted it to be a classic comedy album, but also one you put on more than once," Samberg said in an interview with MTV News. "We've gone out of our way to make it musically pleasing. We started on a few songs that were not funny enough, for us, but they sounded pretty cool. And the bottom line for the project was, 'Is it going to be funny first and music second?' I think it's 95 percent music, and we hope people would throw it on and bump it."

The trio has been posting songs and videos on their website for years, but have always wanted to put out a full album. Incredibad will rely heavily on hip-hop beats, recruiting Sly & Robbie, Jurassic 5's DJ Nu-Mark and underground producer DJ J-Zone to help them create rhythms. Jorma helped create some of the beats as well.

The first single "Jizz In My Pants," has become a viral hit since it debuted on SNL last week and features cameos from Timberlake (as a store janitor), the Sopranos' Jamie-Lynn Sigler and Molly Sims.

A DVD is slated to ship with the album, but no word on what material will be included. For now, enjoy some "Jizz In My Pants."

Stevie Nicks Talks Fleetwood Mac + Sheryl Crow Drama!!!!!!

December 12, 2008 11:50 AM

Last night we had the extreme pleasure of chatting with Stevie Nicks, who in January will release a DVD titled Live In Chicago, featuring takes of many of her greatest hits with Fleetwood Mac and her stellar solo career. It's truly awesome.

In conjunction, Nicks is releasing a companion CD titled The Soundstage Sessions, offering live renditions of her lesser-performed cuts like "Beauty and the Beast," "Fall from Grace," and her covers of Dave Matthews Band's "Crash" and Bonnie Raitt's "Circle Dance."

As one of our greatest singers ever -- and a rock star of the highest order -- Stevie couldn't have been sweeter, funnier or more down to earth.

We talked about her recent 60th birthday (she took her mom and her friends to see a production of the play Wicked, of course), the upcoming Fleetwood Mac tour (she can't wait), as well as the drama surrounding Sheryl Crow's involvement in the Mac.

As you may remember, last March Crow announced that she would be joining Mac, saying, "We definitely have plans for collaborating in the future, and we'll see what happens. I think that's going to be next year."

Although it appears to fly in the face of what Lindsey Buckingham told us, Stevie told us that Crow was, in fact, invited to go on the Mac's first trek in nearly five years. (Look for the rest of the interview in the next issue of Rolling Stone.)

Heres what Stevie had to say:

"What happened is that it was absolutely discussed and [Sheryl] absolutely was invited to join the band. The reason was I wanted another woman in the band, because I missed Christine so bad that it was just really hard for me to be in the boys club. What happened was, really... everybody thinks it was just because Sheryl got really excited and told the world about it a little bit too early. That wasn't what it was. I started explaining to Sheryl what it was going to be like to be in this band. It's all-encompassing, and for somebody with a new baby...for a woman in her forties with a new baby, and as loving and as nurturing as Sheryl Crow is... if you know her, you know that she just is a caretaker. We had a conversation at the beginning of this year. I said, 'I rented a studio,' and it was around Mother's Day. 'You need to come in and we need to play music for two days, because we should. It's not an audition for us, it's not an audition for you, it's just us to play music. We'll set it all up and we'll be on a stage and have great monitors, and all your pianos and everything will be set up. We're just going to rock for two days, go out to dinner and hang out. We need to do that.'

She had all these really important plans, because it was her first Mother’s Day, and she was also on the road, so she had to escape out of that for three days. I said, 'You have to do it, you have to come.' That was on a Thursday. She said to me, 'Are you trying to talk me out of this by telling me how difficult this is going to be for me?' I said, 'I'm not. I'm just being truthful with you. Imagine this, when we went on the Say You Will tour,  we thought it was forty shows. It was 135 shows. Nobody knew that, but that’s what it was. And that was for an unhappy tour.'

'So it is kind of like joining the army. Personally, it's going to be very hard for you. I'm not trying to talk you out of it, I'm just trying to let you know what it is.' So she said, 'Okay, I'm going to think about it,' and she called us back two days later. We were in the car, on speaker, and she said, 'I think I'm going to have to pass.'

I said, 'Honey, as Stevie, your friend,' who spent three solid years with her working on Trouble in Shangri-La in ’98, ’99, and 2000, I said, 'I think you're making the right decision. As Stevie Nicks, I'm disappointed. But as your friend, I think this is the right decision.'

Sheryl Crow passed on Fleetwood Mac, and I want that out there, because people seem to be getting different stories about this. That’s what happened."

There you have it!!!

No Brown M&Ms!

December 11, 2008 2:06 PM

A few weeks ago we told you about the current Van Halen tour rider and some of the more crazy requests, but now, The Smoking Gun has gotten their hands on the ultimate artifact, Van Halen's 1983 World Tour Rider!

The typed, 53-page rider contains some ridiculous demands, but what tops them all is the request for a bowl of M&Ms with the disclaimer: "WARNING: ABSOLUTELY NO BROWN ONES!"

Promoters were also asked to provide the band with herring in sour cream, four cases of the Shlitz malt liquor beer and one large tube of KY Jelly!

The group has claimed the M&M stipulation is not a form of "rock excess," but rather a strategic plan to make sure promoters were reading the rider in its entirety. They figured if they walked into their dressing room and found brown M&Ms, then the promoter probably missed some more important requests.

Genius!!!

Astral Weeks in New York?!?

December 11, 2008 12:11 PM

Photo: Rivas/Getty

We were so devastated to miss Van Morrison's performances of Astral Weeks at the Hollywood Bowl last month.

We felt a little better when we heard that Van was planning on releasing live recordings from the two gigs sometime before Christmas (on vinyl!), and a CD/DVD after the new year.

But those plans have been shelved, and we couldn't be happier.

The L.A. Times is reporting that Morrison is planning to bring Astral Weeks to New York City in early 2009!

After all, this is where he recorded his masterwork, 40 years ago!

Joy.

Jason Mraz: Huh?

December 10, 2008 6:01 PM

Jason Mraz's Grammy-nominated song, "I'm Yours," has reached the Number One slot at Top 40.

Now, first and foremost, we are music fans. We think it takes a lot of balls to get up and perform songs in front of crowds, and to put your lyrics and melodies out there for the whole world to hear. And we're sure Jason is a nice dude, but...

We just listened to "I'm Yours" really closely, and here are our thoughts, arranged chronologically:

  • "Wait, did we click on Jack Johnson by accident?"
  • "No, that's Mraz's voice. God damn he's been listening to Jack Johnson!"
  • "Maybe Jack Johnson wrote this song. And he gave it to Mraz?"
  • "Wait... maybe Colbie Caillat wrote this song."
  • "Record stores should have a section called Retarded Reggae, and this album should be the one on display."
  • "Did he just sing, 'We're just one big family?' Please say he didn't. We hate it when people say shit like that."
  • "He did."
  • "Let's see... When was scatting cool? Hmmm... Right! Like eighty years ago."
  • "Will somebody please take two ice-picks and drill them into our ears until all we hear is a faint scrape of metal."
  • "How, on God's sacred planet, did 'I'm Yours' get to Number One on Top 40?"

Break Out the Flannel: Pearl Jam Reissues Ten

December 10, 2008 11:53 AM

Here's some splooge-inducing news for Pearl Jam fans.

Next March, PJ will reissue Ten, their brilliant 1991 debut, the disc that (along with Nevermind) ushered in the era of Grunge.

But instead of the standard repackaging, with those compulsory outtakes, the Ten reissue will offer a treasure trove of goodies.

There will be four editions, each of which will contain two copies of Ten -- one remastered copy of the original tracks and one copy remixed by longtime PJ producer Brendan O'Brien.

"The band loved the original mix of Ten, but were also interested in what it would sound like if I were to deconstruct and remix it," O'Brien. "The original Ten sound is what millions of people bought, dug and loved, so I was hesitant to mess around with that. After years of persistent nudging from the band, I was able to wrap my head around the idea of offering it as a companion piece to the original - giving a fresh take on it, a more direct sound."

Those of you ready to shell out should spring for the Super Deluxe Edition. You'll get:
-- The two disc set
-- A DVD of Pearl Jam's previously-unreleased 1992 Unplugged gig (the one where Eddie goes psycho and scrawls "Pro Choice" into his arm during "Porch.")
-- Four vinyl LPs -- one original copy of Ten, one remixed copy, and a two-LP live set from a 1992 concert in Seattle, known as Drop In the Park.
-- A replica cassette of the first recorded Pearl Jam demos of "Alive," "Once" and "Footsteps."
-- And, as a press release declares, "an Eddie Vedder-style composition notebook filled with replica personal notes, images and mementos from the collections of Eddie Vedder and Jeff Ament, a vellum envelope with replicated era-specific ephemera from Pearl Jam's early work and a two-sided print commemorating the Drop in the Park concert."

Bounty Huntin' DMX

December 9, 2008 10:29 AM

Photo: Bedder/Getty

DMX is on the lam!

A warrant was issued for his arrest after missing a court appearance on Friday for drug charges, identity theft and animal cruelty in Maricopa County, Arizona.

Now the Maricopa County Sheriff's department is asking for your help.

Snitchin' is for bitches, but here's one reason to dime out DMX: $5,000. That's what the cops will be donating to the person who gives information leading to D's capture and arrest.

For a while DMX was the hottest rapper around -- between 1998 and 2003 he released five straight Number One albums, selling more than 15 million copies.

Now he's on the run!

UPDATE: They got him! FBI agents found DMX hiding in producer Scott Storch's mansion off the coast of Florida on Palm Island. The arrest was made yesterday afternoon, and now D is sitting behind bars in Miami-Dade County Jail. A woman tipped off police after hearing about the cash reward.

Jeff Beck Slams Zeppelin Reunion

December 8, 2008 11:57 AM

Photo: Katopodis/Getty

Jeff Beck has publicly slammed  members of Led Zeppelin for even discussing a tour without Robert Plant.

Beck -- a former bandmate of Jimmy Page in the Yardbirds -- said "I really don't think it's a good idea."

Amen to that.

"I was there at the one-off show at the O2 Arena [last December] and it was fantastic," said Beck. "But I think they should just leave it there. They will have been offered loads of money and it'll be tempting but that's not a good enough reason to me.

"It would be different if they all wanted to do it and record new material but that's not the case."

Plant put rumors of a full Zeppelin reunion tour to rest in September when he said he has "no intention whatsoever of touring with anyone for at least the next two years."

What do you think? Should JPJ and Page go on without Plant?
