According to the Osservatore Romano, the official newspaper of the Vatican, the Catholic church has finally forgiven John Lennon for the 1966 statement he made claiming the Beatles were more famous than Jesus.
In an extremely long sentence, the newspaper read: “The remark by John Lennon, which triggered deep indignation mainly in the United States, after many years sounds only like a ‘boast’ by a young working-class Englishman faced with unexpected success, after growing up in the legend of Elvis and rock and roll."
The statement coincided with the 40th anniversary of the White Album.
It continues, "The fact remains that 38 years after breaking up, the songs of Lennon-McCartney brand have shown an extraordinary resistance to the passage of time, becoming a source of inspiration for more than one generation of pop musicians."
(Apparently, the Pope can live without the Harrison songs.)

I'm not upset. It's time this occurred. Benedict XVI didn't impress me too much at first, but he's grown on me. I think it was just the comparison to John Paul II that turned me off, which wasn't fair. For the Church, this was very fast of them to do this. I wonder how many papers they made to get this done. :)
And hey, what's wrong with the Harrison songs?

someone needs to teach the pope how to be a little humble. i mean, c'mon.. it's not like lennon was waiting for this guy's forgiveness. i wish john was alive just to see what he would say to that pompous jerk.

The jury is still out whether or not they'll forgive Ringo for "Octopus's Garden."
