Metallica's Death Magnetic has gone platinum -- with 1.2 million copies sold -- just six weeks after it's release.

Magnetic is Metallica's fifth consecutive album to debut at No. 1 on Billboard's Top 200 list. Metallica are the only band to have a new release top the charts five times in a row, breaking the previous record of four consecutive Number Ones shared by the Beatles, U2 and Dave Matthews Band.

"We bought a bunch of drugs and cars," James Hetfield told the Smoking Section about how the band celebrated their feat. "No. We just looked at each other, our jaws dropped and we said, 'Man!'"

Congrats!
