Joe the Republican

Say it ain't so, Joe.

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry has announced his endorsement of McCain, saying, "We pretty much stay out of it, but seeing so many people come out for Obama, I just felt like 'What the hell, I might as well raise my hand for this side.'"

What conviction!

"I've been a hardcore Republican my whole life," he said. "My mother and father drilled into me from the very start that if you work hard and be positive, you'll get what you're working for. I guess I'm living proof of that."

So sad. We'll never be able to listen to the solo in "Dream On" the same way again.

Wait. Isn't Barack Obama living proof of that, too? Joe's either a moron or severely ill-informed. Never liked Aerosmith anyway. One more reason not to listen to them.

who gives a fuck if he's a Republican. I'm a liberal - but I don't love my father any less because he's a life long Republican - I just frequently ask him how he can be a real Republican and not be completely ashamed of the last 8 years - and what Bush did to his party.

Besides, real Republicans are fine - it's these NEOCON wack jobs and Fundamentalist Christian extremists who gave being conservative a bad name. Didn't Zappa say he was actually a conservative on Crossfire back in the day?

*And I'm sure Joe was so conservative in the mid 70s when he was blowing lines off the asses of groupies in the back of the tour bus. Maybe he was a conservative like Zappa; the government has no place in the home or between these two 19 year olds from San Diego. I second that.

if you guys make your political decisions by what a magazine says than I pity you. stop trying to tell a magazine and its writers
that they're right or wrong.. think for yourselves.

man, i'm all for obama, but this won't change a bit how i feel about aerosmith (or joe perry). in fact, a few weeks from now, i won't even remember what joe's political preference is (green party...???). i know this is a somewhat personal blog (hey there, austin!), but come on! try to stick to the music a little more, let matt taibi deal with politics!

jim h. | November 1, 2008 1:09 AM

hmm... i dont think it's sarcasm, but what the hell, if that's how he was raised and that's what he believes, let him, this is a democracy and thats the whole point: some of us are going to have different opinions and preferences. i'm all for obama, but i'm not going to stop listening to aerosmith just because joe's a republican! in a few weeks, i probably won't even remember! i know this is a somewhat personal blog (hey there, austin!), but try not to be SO biased in such an influential medium! endorsement is one thing, but petty gossip about who "came out"? come on!!!

I'm with you SS! Talk about "The Other Side."

Actually, it's not a surprise ol' Joe's a Republican. I mean, he's wrapped himself in the flag.

Grunt | October 31, 2008 12:07 PM

Um...it's a liberal magazine! They've had Obama on the cover three times! You'd think people would recognize RS is not trying to be a politically neutral publication. You'd also think readers would be able to pick up on sarcasm.

Stop whining and go pick up a copy of the National Review!

rollingstone is the most biased piece of shit magazine of all time. they rail on mccain, a true american hero, while pushing Obama, the most unexperienced candidate in history of the race. i dont like either candidate, but i dont understand how anyone can take this magazines political stance seriously. its as bad as reading Christian Home and Country monthly.

"So sad. We'll never be able to listen to the solo in "Dream On" the same way again. "

....Why, just because he has a different opinion than you? Really? I never thought Rolling Stone would sink this low....

Don't get me wrong, I don't like McCain but I also don't like Obama. Ron Paul is who I wanted to be elected, but I don't say shit like "So sad. We'll never be able to listen to the solo in "Dream On" the same way again." To all the Obama and McCain fans.

You guys really REALLY need to look at your articles and try not to be so damn biased.
