The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival has moved up by two weeks, now scheduled for April 17-19. The event will remain at Indio, California's Empire Polo Field and acts will be announced early next year.

It also appears that the dates for 2009's Bonnaroo have been leaked. Looks like it will go down on June 11-14 in Manchester, Tennessee.

Sir Paul Rips Mucca On New Track

October 3, 2008 11:31 AM

Paul McCartney takes some stabs at his ex-wife -- succubus Heather Mills -- on a new track called "Nothing Too Much, Just Out of Sight." The song is part of an upcoming album by the Fireman, Sir Paul's low-key project with musician and producer Youth. (They released two ambient, electronic albums in the Nineties.)

Sample lyrics:

“The last thing you do was to try and betray me/ In new morning light/ I’ll never forget it/ And that’s just outta sight.”

“You have money/ And no manners.”

He should've nailed her harder than that! She did rob him of more than $100,000,000. Thankfully, the song is pretty rad. Check it out below.

Van Morrison To Perform Astral Weeks!!!

October 2, 2008 10:19 AM

Dear lord, you've finally answered our prayers.

Forty years after he recorded his masterpiece, Van Morrison has announced he will play Astral Weeks -- IN IT'S ENTIRETY -- at Los Angeles'  Hollywood Bowl on November 7th and 8th. Each show will have two sets: the first will span Morrison's career, and the second will showcase Astral Weeks, top to bottom.

"This is a welcomed opportunity for me to perform these songs the way I originally intended them to be," Morrison said. "In the '60s and '70s the record companies did not support the music, so I never got to take these songs on tour. These songs are as timeless and fresh right now as the day they were written and I am happy about taking them to the Hollywood Bowl."

Really blowing our minds is that during the Astral Weeks portion of the concerts, Morrison will be joined by those who helped him create the masterpiece, including Jay Berliner on guitar and Richard Davis on bass!

Tickets for the event range from $75 to $255, and are available through Ticketmaster beginning October 5. For additional info, click here

Dude, Let's Smoke Kurt...

October 1, 2008 4:59 PM

Here in the S.S., any news of smoking a joint is music to our ears, but this just makes us sick to our stomachs.

Reports are claiming Australian artist Natascha Stellmach has acquired Kurt Cobain's ashes (which were stolen from widow Courtney Love in May) and plans to smoke his remains in a freshly rolled spliff as part of the Set Me Free art exhibit at Berlin's Wagner + Partner gallery. "This final act," claims Stellmach, "will release Cobain from the media circus and into the ether."

That's almost as disgusting as rolling a joint with tobacco in it!

UPDATE: It turns out Cobain's ashes may not have ever been stolen in the first place! Click here to read more.

Phish Reunite as Porter Batiste Stoltz Finish Tour With Page McConnell

Phish are back! After a five year hiatus, the jam-giants have booked three shows at the Hampton Coliseum in Virginia (on sale October 18), and the band plans on gigging more in 2009.

While Phish were on their break, there were plenty of side projects: Trey Anastasio released a slew of solo discs, toured with Phil Lesh and along with Phish bassist Mike Gordon, teamed up with the Benevento Russo Duo for GRAB

Our favorite collaboration, though, was keyboardist Page McConnell's hook-up with New Orleans funk legends Porter Batiste Stoltz.

Last November, when PBS played in Burlington, Vermont, McConnell sat in with the trio. "They were like, 'What are you doing tonight?'" McConnell recalls. "I was going to the show anyway, but they asked me if I wanted to play. I sat in for one of their sets and have been around ever since.

Since then, recordings of the show have been one of the most coveted bootlegs in the jam scene. Now, PBS + Page will release the highlights from the legendary set as a live album, titled Moodoo, out now

The S.S. sat down with the guys and talked Moodoo. Click the jump for what they have to say, and take a listen to "I Get High," below.
