Wilco and Fleet Foxes will be giving away a free cover of Dylan's "I Shall Be Released" to those who pledge to vote in the 2008 Election. The song was recorded when the bands shared a bill in Bend, Oregon, this past August.
When we ran into Foxes singer Robin Pecknold, we asked him about their mini-tour with Wilco:
"I love what Wilco has done. They're the shit. And we got to sing harmonies on 'I Shall Be Released!' Jeff sang the lead vocal and we sang the harmonies and the chorus. It was amazing. I mean, last Christmas I was doing the same thing with my mom and dad and brother. And now we got to do it with Wilco!"

I was at this show and "I Shall Be Released" was a pleasant surprise, a great end to an excellent show. Fleet Foxes (along with label mates Blitzen Trapper) are a band to watch.
But the Band still owns that song.
