Brandon Flowers Talks Day & Age: Best Killers Disc Ever!!!

September 15, 2008 3:12 PM

 Photo: Torey Mundkowsky

The Killers announced today that their new disc, Day & Age, will be released on November 25th.

Last week we heard five of the 10 cuts slated for Day & Age and each one of them will blow your mind. The first single "Human" is destined to be a worldwide club hit. On "I Can't Stay" the Killers open up their sound, adding tenor sax and steel drums. And "Dustland Fairytale" is an epic — featuring characters like the "slick-chrome American prince" and "Cinderella" — that Flowers says he wrote about his parents.

A few mornings ago we met our buddy, Brandon Flowers, in a suite at New York's Rivington Hotel. Click more to read the transcript of our chat. "It's like looking at *Sam's Town* from Mars," Flowers says about the new disc.

So, what have you guys been up to?

Well, we were just in London. We were playing a bunch of festivals. Then we mixed—we finished mixing the album, almost, in London.  Now we're here.

Let's go back to when the album started. I guess it was when you started working with Stuart Price on music that ended up on Sawdust

He had done stuff, he had done remixes with us before but we had never met him until he was doing "Sweet Talk".  And, you know, we did that Christmas thing with him, so that was good.  We just liked him right away. I don't wanna fucking go get Eno right now.  Not that we didn't attempt to in that past. [laughs].  But you know, you want that hunger that he must have had 30 years ago.  And I feel like Stuart's that man.

What's Stuart like? Is he a nut?

He's kind of a weirdo.

In a good way, I presume.

Yeah.  But he's quick, he's quick with ideas, and with our ideas, and it just made it a lot more fun.  He's not afraid to say, you know, "that sucks," or "let's try something else," so it really kept it—kept it rolling.

So when did you write all this stuff?

It started on the road for Sam's Town, so, it's been goin' on for a couple years.

So hotel rooms, and that kind of shit.

Yeah. Doin' it on computers. And then we'd send it right to him, and pre-production would be going right away.  So he's been going—he got more than he bargained for with this album. It's been going on for a while.

So at what point did you guys decide Stuart was your man?

Pretty early on.

Like, a year ago?

Yeah. When we met him, we were just having dinner with him in London about what he was doing for us at Sawdust, helping us with Sawdust. So I just said, "What are you doing after dinner?" He said he was free, and we went to his house -- he has a studio there -- and we recorded "Human." We just knew that it just sounded so good—it was only a couple hours we spent, and it wasn't much different that it is now.

So why didn't "Human" end up going on Sawdust?

It was too good.

So, if Sam's Town is about Vegas, what is this one about?

For me it's definitely a continuation. On this one I was thinking more universal. Like, when Morrissey was singing about Manchester, I thought, "I got it." [laughs].  I don't know. Maybe I didn't. I feel like that's the duty, I guess. You're supposed to represent where you're from, and—I'm trying to figure out what that is— I don't know how to do it.  I don't know.

Is it about spending so much time away from home?

Yeah, I said it's like looking at Sam's Town from Mars. It still always goes back to Vegas but it's, yeah, it's definitely maybe, maybe from an outsiders perspective…

Of missing your home town?

Yeah…that's always in there. I have a romantic notion of what America, and Nevada and the Wild West— about what it is.  And, I'm tryin' to hold on.

Generally, how have you been doing the last couple of years? You have a new family.

Yeah, it's crazy. The boy's walking around. It happens quick.  It's exciting, you know.  I've always been around kids; I have 19 nieces and nephews.

Okay!

Nineteen.  So it's always. I love him more than my nieces and nephews—not that I don't love them, you know, but it's cool.  But I felt like I was more accustomed to kids than my wife. She comes from a small family, but she's doing fantastic.

Do they travel with you?

They travel, yeah. It's hard, though. The baby's got more stuff than I have. So it's hard loading it in and out everyday.

And your fellow Killers… Everything is good? You guys are getting along?

Yeah. I thought we got along really well on Sam's Town, better than we did on Hot Fuss, so.  Hopefully we're going in the right direction.  Maybe it's—we have a little bit more space, now, with the luxury of having success, I guess.  With Hot Fuss you're sharing bedrooms, and…so there's a little more space.  We don't have our own busses yet or anything, but it's nice.  It's been good.

So, you meet up with Stuart Price, at his studio at home after dinner, and you do "Human." Then what?

Then we just start sending him ideas, from all over the place. So we sent him "Spaceman" from Panama, and then some stuff was from Australia, so it was cool—just being able to send it over. And he'd work on it right away.  He's just—like I said, he's just got that drive.

You're sending him digital files?

Yeah, like Logic, or Garage Band. It's almost like Pro Tools or something.  I mean it wasn't the best sounds, but you would get the gist of it. And then by the time we got home Ronnie had learned how to use Logic, and so did Mark, and so they were doing stuff and then sending it to him from their house. It's a really weird way to work.  Wasn't that we didn't want to be around each other, it's just that we were home, and Ronnie, say, would have an idea, send it to Stuart, Stuart would shine it up, send it to me, and I'd sing at it, at my house, and send it back. It was a little weird.

So, and what is Stuart doing to it? He's just shining it up?

Yeah, and he's—he's not afraid to put out ideas, and you know at first that was hard to get used to.  But I mean some of them we kept, and you know, we almost treated him like a fifth member.

So, for instance, on "Human," what did he add to that?  Obviously it has kind of a Euro-pop feel to it.

The landscapes —that would be more Stuart.  We'd do the meat and potatoes, and he adds the galaxy.

Right.  So when you hear what he's done with " Human," are you like, "Wow this is incredible," or are you hesitant?

I was really excited.  That one took a little coaxing for the other guys. Everybody's got their fingerprints on it now, but at first it sounded a little maybe too dance.

What's "Human" about?

I think we were at a weird festival in Germany. I was just trying to have it be a simple tune, with classic chord changes. The way I described it to Stuart was -- I remember saying this to him at dinner --  "I got this thing, it's like Johnny Cash meets the Pet Shop Boys. Let's go record it."

And you guys have a new studio in Vegas?

Yeah, we just got it. It's really close to the Palms, actually [where the Killers recorded Sam's Town].

Thank god! You gotta be close to the Palms!

[Laughs]

It's about three minutes. It's basically right there in the hotel area.  It's been a studio for years but we didn't even know about it. It was kinda--people would use it for like productions stuff. Hotels would use it for like plays or whatever that was going on—Cirque de Soleil.

Like live recordings?

I don't know. That's all we know. And so its, uh—Its got a great live room. And, it's big. It's a pretty big place. It doesn't look like much on the outside but when you go in its pretty cool. We were really happy to find it.

And you guys were rehearsing for a couple months and then Stuart comes in and you guys just knock it out?

Yeah. We had 19 that we were gonna record. And then there's quite a bit that we threw away. Yeah, so…fuck. It's hard to finish the lyrics and then you gotta worry about "iTunes wants bonus songs" and "Japan gets an extra song." By the time you're done its like two albums. I'm still not done with a lyric. I've still got one song that needs lyrics for the album.

Right. So, what should we say about the other Killers stepping up on this record? I heard five songs and it's definitely the best shit you've ever done.

Yeah I feel like it is. I think it was like that freedom that Stuart gives you to just--If you want to try something—to nobody was afraid to try it. We brought in a sax player. Tommy, he's our buddy. He's probably going to come on the road with us. And Ronnie brought in his buddy—this Cuban guy, that's a percussionist. We all just kind of said, you know, fuck it. You know, people laugh at sax solos. We just said, fuck it.

I live for sax solos.

There's a couple on this album. It was just like… we just went with it.

Right. So the saxophonist is your friend Tommy.

Tommy Max. He's a Vegas character.

Who did all the strings? Are you playing all the strings on synth?

Yeah. Me and Stuart did all the strings. We were gonna have—we planned to get together an orchestra and do it later, but it sounds so good that we just left it alone.

And what's the other sax song?

There's one called "Joy Ride" that's got nice sax moment.

Another solo?

Yeah!

Sweet. And you got steel drums? Who did that?

The steel drums are fake.

What about this song "Dustland Fairytale?" Can you tell me about that?

It started off just kind of ripping off "Waiting for the Man." I guess it's the most like Sam's Town on the album.

What's your favorite song on the record right now?

That one. It goes between that one and "I Can't Stay." But you gotta hear "Joy Ride." We just finished it a couple of days ago.

Why's the album called Day & Age?

I don't know. You wait for moments. I just wait for it come, and I knew that that was right when I had it.

Is that lyric in a song?

Yeah, it's in two songs.

It's in "Neon Tiger" and "The World We Live In."

So how many songs are on the record?

Ten. When does the Kings of Leon record come out?

I don't know. End of September?

That single is good.

 "Sex on Fire" -- yeah.

The verses are so good.

What else are you listening to?

Lou Reed. We were listening to Berlin a lot, me and Mark., when we were making the record. What else? E.L.O. wouldn't go away.

Can you tell me like about writing some of these songs. Are you writing in the middle of the night after shows?

Yeah that's where it started—after shows. And then about half of it was done at home. So it's kind of all over the place. Some were at the piano at home. Some were jams. Some were on the road.

When you were writing these songs were you homesick, or depressed?

No. (laughs)

Not that they sound depressed, but I was just curious.

No, it's cool. I always feel like there's something wrong with me because I don't have some dire some sort of awful outlook on life. It seams like you're not allowed to—like it must not be real or it must not be good if you are happy to be here. And I'm very happy to be here. I love having a body that's fully functioning. I love traveling and getting this opportunity.

Are any of these songs about kind of specific things in your life? Are any of these songs about your baby boy or your wife?

Yeah, I mean there's a couple lines in there. There's one in "I Can't Stay." But yeah, the one that I just—specifically about my mom and dad is "The Dustland Fairtytale."

Nice. What's the touring plan?

We're going to go out October, November, December, just do TV and a couple of gigs here and there. We're going to come to New York on October 26th, I think. And then January will really kick off though the touring.

And so, are there going to be six people on stage now?

Six. Tommy and Ray. Ray is the new Ted, who went off to do his own thing. So Ray, played with Louis XIV. He was their Ted. And uh, he quit with them and he's with us now. We didn't steal him or anything. No bad blood.

Good. And he's playing keyboards and the occasional guitar?

Keyboards and guitar. So we'll have him and Tommy.

And everyone involved is psyched about Day & Age?

So far it's been a pretty good response. Yeah, Ronnie says if we never make another album, he's happy. I don't know how to take that.

I really enjoy The Killers music. My 7 year old son loves them, too. I'm older and I thought I heard the ELO influence that I absolutely love!
I wish them a lot of success and happiness. I have gained a lot of pleasure from listening to their beautiful music!
Thanks!!!!

Brenton | November 27, 2008 2:56 AM

Day & Age is easily one of the best albums released this year. It seems that RS finally got something right by giving it a good review. I thought their first two albums were good, but this record blows them out of the water. My particular favourite on this record is 'Goodnight, Travel Well', quite easily one of the darkest songs The Killers have ever recorded.

Album is fantastic! | November 26, 2008 11:50 AM

Honestly if this isn't selected as the best album of the year, I will be surprised. I am not surprised by how good this album is, because i knew it was going to be great. They surpassed any expectations that I had. There isn't one song on this album that shouldn't have been created. I love all of them. i mean it is different from Sam's Town and hot fuss. On Hot Fuss, there was two songs that still have yet to grow on me. here i didn't hear anything like that. I am sure that each will grow on me more than they already have. The Killers deserve publicity. I know everybody loves the hip-hop fake band crap but these guys are real musicians. They deserve the best and are the best!

DEAR EVERYBODY ELSE | November 4, 2008 5:28 PM

The fact that your spending so much time writing all these immature comments for a band you don't really like shows something about your character. "And the world yawns?" please! are you compensating for something?

As for me, I can't wait for the cd to come out. They aren't my most favourite band, but I really hope Day & Age is as enjoyable as Sawdust and Sam's Town!

Nathan | November 1, 2008 11:13 AM

Well, i suppose it sounds better this time round, but i'm still gonna buy every album the killers release heh.

Barney | October 27, 2008 6:57 PM

Anyone who doesnt like Sam's Town should give up music as a pastime. Seriously. I like most music and have loved all the classics from Floyd, Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin.
Sam's Town takes its place up there with them. Anyone saying anything else has skipped through the album for the hits.

Drew | October 27, 2008 6:51 PM

The Killers are a great band and deserve a lot better than their music being compared at anytime to U2's "all that you cant leave behind". U2 have been putting out bland, lazy and predictable music since "Achtung Baby", they are becoming the rolling stones...
The Killers already have shown more talent than the gloriously over-rated aformentioned U2.
Rock on Brandon

Jenny | October 19, 2008 8:14 PM

The Killers and Brandon are a refreshing change to the crap we have had rammed down our ears over the past ten years or so. I lost interest in music completely untill my son went to Glastonbury last year. Now I am hooked and enjoy Hot Fuss, Sams Town and Sawdust equally. Its just shows how versatile the talent is with these guys. I have never been to a gig in my life before but for the first tine have managed to get tickets and will be seeing these guys live next year. I don't just feel exited I feel privalaged.

Brandon is a fantastic chap with some good old fashioned values and morals and I can relate to his brilliant lyrics all the time. Just wish there were more in the world like him.

karl b | October 17, 2008 6:48 PM

Ok so I have been a fan of all kinds of music for years and I have to say the killers are by far the most tallented, original inovative band in the past 20 years hands down.hot fuss was great and sams town was by far the best album of the decade.I can only speculate but from what I hear the new album is going to be monsterous.I understand everyone has an opinion and that's fine but its unreal that there are really people out there comparing the killers with the fucking honuts brothers... Sure the killers are a little cocky but it comes with greatness...

DiZzLe | October 13, 2008 4:11 PM

The Jonas Brothers?...pffft buncha fags

Rebecca | October 13, 2008 4:10 PM

The Killers are so Amazing! :]

Lauren | October 9, 2008 4:15 PM

The Killers are amazing!
I'm so happy for Brandon and his family.

Yeah... Um the Jonas Brothers can't even compete with the Killer's musical skils.

NEG | October 1, 2008 6:57 PM

teh killars suck i heart teh jonas brothars

Ally | September 26, 2008 4:25 PM

The sax player is amazing!!!

Bruce | September 25, 2008 5:25 PM

Sam's Town may be one of the most influential albums out there today. Hot fuss was good for putting them on the map, but the killers were never mind blowing until Sam's town. Sawdust was good as well for a b sides and rarities

3rd Album | September 23, 2008 9:53 AM

No. This is the third album. Sawdust is just B-Sides/Rarities, it's not considrered an LP.

So No, this is their third album.

Natalie | September 22, 2008 11:06 AM

The new single is ok- but then again, The singles always take a while to grow on me. And like someone else said, this is their 4th album, not 3rd.

Anyways, this cd will be amazing. Not a doubt in my mind.

Friend | September 20, 2008 7:32 PM

Absolutely, Sam's Town deserves better than Rolling Stone gave it. . . it's about time they start respecting talent and great song writing. The killer's new album, will be fantastic -- they have grown and developed as a band. I am a friend and have gotten a peek at some of the new tracks -- INCREDIBLE. Soul satisfying works of art. Also, they are comparable to U2's album 'All That You Can't Leave Behind' in goodness. Unmistakably, pop hits with deeply contrived meanings. The Killers finally will reach into a cemented place as one of the greatest rock bands.
Rolling Stone is calling it this time -- best yet?! But look at all these things that they've done.

dear dear basser | September 20, 2008 7:19 PM

umm kanye better than the killers? hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
hahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahaahhahahahaahhahahahahahahaha, yeah ok mate whatever perhaps if he stopped repeating his words through his nose id give him a chance. and the killers dont sell records eh? thats why the killers have sold multi platinum albums then? kanye is shit get over it. i mean sure if you like it whatever but personally i like my music to have talent, what do you want brandon to say "ah actually you know what its not that great, dont bother to listen" they make great songs so have a right to say so, cant wait brandon for day and age...bring it on :D

i ve got soul ... | September 19, 2008 1:05 PM

i think that day&age thing is gonn ROCK. there is no thing i want more than see the killers in SLOVENIA

Sam's Town | September 19, 2008 1:02 PM

This is where people lose Sam's Town... You have Hot Fuss. A dance inspired, great album of hit after hit. It was indeed unique. Then comes something completely different from the Killers. A complete 180. But this wasn't a bad thing. Different, but great. Sam's town didn't strike me as being good at first. I was still hooked on Hot Fuss, the sound was completely different. But I listened to it straight through, then I listened to it again. And again. And then I couldn't stop listening to it. Then I saw them live, and realized the Killers, along with Muse, are the best live BAND out there, and Sam's Town was a perfect record to play live. For all the naysayers, like I once was, see them live. Listen multiple times to these songs. They speak to you. They are, indeed, Great.

Ann | September 19, 2008 8:59 AM

I can't believe that anyone would say Sams Town is not a brilliant album. I also like the way that Brandon Flowers speaks his mind, they have worked their way up to being one of the most sought after and best band in a long long time. Other singers who speak their mind and continuously swear never get any stick. I think Brandon is a genuine person who loves his wife and baby and wants to take them on tour with him, and he is such a refreshing change to the usual type of scruffy singer.

Marcel | September 19, 2008 6:10 AM

well let's hear it then.

Killersgirl | September 18, 2008 9:40 PM

Oh my god, i can't wait for the killers' new album!!!!!!!

Anonymous | September 18, 2008 7:48 PM

If rolling stone (who gave a scathing review to sams town) loves it, it must be incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

You just wait | September 18, 2008 3:38 PM

this will be the greatest album put out by the killers hands down. anyone who hates samstown is just blind to a maturing band. if your looking for a poppy album that catches you immediately upon the first listen, go buy the jonas brothers album. the killers are the greatest band out in this day and age. :)

Nathan | September 18, 2008 2:40 PM

I hear it's gonna be the greatest rock album of the last 40 years, at the same time putting London Calling and OK Computer to shame. Isn't it, Brandon Flowers? Dipshit.

Sharon | September 18, 2008 1:55 PM

I am really looking forward to the new album. I have loved The Killers since the beginning but am now getting bored of Sams town & Hot Fuss. Seen them at Reading Festival this year and they rocked. Glad those 'taches have finally gone, loving the bit of glam. x

goldie | September 18, 2008 1:55 PM

sams town was awsome..cant get some people man, read my mind is as good a sing along as brightside, its my favorite..human is gona be up there..i cant wait to 25th nov..maybe this will be the best around for 20 years who knows.lol..killers no1..p.s go see them best live band around and show..to good so get it up yeees

Topher | September 18, 2008 1:31 PM

Looking forward to the album, but somewhat disturbed by Brandon's very casual use of the F-word.

WHU | September 18, 2008 2:06 AM

the killers album will be slop!

anonymous | September 18, 2008 12:17 AM

is the guy doing the interview 16?

Dear basser... | September 17, 2008 11:52 PM

Interesting you point out the double standard. Nice job pulling that card, we all apprecite it. Allow me now to point out a little thing we call statistics. Kanye sells millions more records than The Killers. Now, one might say that is genre specific, that The Killers do not appeal to all people. However, I don't think everybody loves hip-hop either and I don't think the same person is buying 30 Kanye West albums to outnumber the supossedly glorious Sam's Town. The reason why everyone jumped on Flowers for his comments is because he already comes off like a jerk. Thus, when a jerk's self-acclaimed album tanks, as it should have, people like to point it out. Kanye, on the other hand, backs it up. Also, just because they play instruments doesn't mean anything. The Jonas Brothers play instruments too.

basser | September 17, 2008 4:47 PM

It's odd that society curses Brandon Flowers for saying, in 2006, his band, The Killers, were going to release the best rock album of the last 25 years.
Yet when Kayne West says such things - and Kayne is much less talented than The Killers, who at least can play real instruments - people mysteriously give Kanye a pass and turn their head. It's ok for Kayne to say things like that, but not The Killers?? Marvelous double-standard we have there, isn't it?

I can't wait to hear the new Killers disc. I love them. To me, they and Coldplay are the only great new bands you'll hear on the radio these days ....

not a fan | September 17, 2008 4:23 PM

Sam's Town was an imense pile of steaming garbage and 2 out of 5 stars was overly generous. This is a bad band...there's not an original thought among them. That said - you're all entitled to your opinions.

Hayley | September 17, 2008 2:47 PM

aahhhhh!!!
that was amazin im so excited now. Day and age sounds like its gonna be gud n i cant wait till they start touring.

Brandon u r so cute !!! lol

Jan from Helmond / Holland | September 17, 2008 9:12 AM

Can't wait for the new album. The other three were different but all of them great. I shall have the album immediately. Can't wait for the next tour, I see you in Europe/Holland.

Greetings Jan (Helmond/Holland).

The Killers forever!!!!!!!!

finn | September 17, 2008 4:19 AM

i cursed rob sheffield the second i read his very unfair review of sam's town back in 2006. i still think sam's town was a more mature album than hot fuss (although we could've done without bones and uncle johnny) and i seriously believe that rob sheffield was simply being a d***head. the killers is still one of the best bands out there today and this new album would further attest that.

Renato | September 16, 2008 11:43 PM

Human was too good to go on sawdust? Oh, just like sawdust was not that good...

Come on I just love all the pretty faces, indie rock and roll, the ballad of michael vallentine... if human is better then it's really really really good...

Nathan | September 16, 2008 8:27 PM

Best Killers album ever huh? That shouldn't be too hard. Will it be the greatest rock album of the last 25 years again, Brandon? hahahahaha

Anonymous | September 16, 2008 6:31 PM

roll on november 25th.cant wait!!!

Anonymous | September 16, 2008 6:28 PM

cant wait 4 this album.sams town was brillant and i know day and age will be awesome also.roll on november!!!

Tom | September 16, 2008 6:23 PM

I'm a Killers fan. I am happy to hear that they've set an official release date but November 25th seems too far off. I do not, however, like that they have a "worldwide club hit" single. Sounds like a number one on the Billboard 100. I don't enjoy seeing great rock music being on top of the Billboard 100. Mainly because it draws people in with one song. Well I'll have to deal with it. But I know that Spaceman and Neon Tiger blow it away.

omg | September 16, 2008 5:25 PM

OMG

?? | September 16, 2008 4:57 PM

chaz man its a good thing sams town didnt only have two good songs then isnt it? because every single one was fucking amazing , NEG shut your trap and go turn on katy perry or something, in the meanwhile us music listeners will be waiting for the best album of the year from the best band of all time...enough said

Zadig | September 16, 2008 4:06 PM

After this interview . .. wel all cant wait to hear "Humans" °o°

Dear Chaz Man... | September 16, 2008 4:01 PM

Now, I'm no music critique, but, I don't think an album is good if it has two decent songs. It is, if I'm not mistaken, an album. Not some playlist you make on iTunes.

Futebox | September 16, 2008 3:54 PM

hmmm i loved hot fuss and while i used to hate sam's town its really grown on me and has some great songs (the river is wild, bones, why do i keep counting...) and so im pretty excited for this. i think flowers is a great guy, and although the eyeliner in this picture shocked me a little... i am exited for this album.

Reeves | September 16, 2008 3:50 PM

Sam's town is one of my favourite albums. as much as you love the killers studio stuff, You HAVE to see them live. ir's absolutly mind blowing.

danielle | September 16, 2008 3:30 PM

why do they keep saying this will be their third album.. its their forth!

Cloudy | September 16, 2008 3:10 PM

I really hated Sam's Town so hopefully this album is better. If I recall correctly, though, a certain Smoking Section editor praised that album too...

Vero | September 16, 2008 2:50 PM

I love Sam's Town, and i know that Day and Age is goin to be AMAZING.

mary | September 16, 2008 2:49 PM

wow ! i cant wait! i love the killers so much and for me the best album was HOT FUSS, but SAMS TOWN is also a very good album, with more sentimental songs.
i think that day and age will be awsome.
please killers come to ARGENTINA in your next tour!
we love you :)

NEG | September 16, 2008 1:09 PM

I repeat...
and the world yawns...

ChazMan | September 16, 2008 12:58 PM

How can you hate on Sam's Town? Just because RS gave it a bad review doesn't mean it sucked. It was a better album then Hot Fuss. The Musics Indistry hasn't heard that sound in over a decade. Listen to the songs. Just for having When You Were Young and Read My Mind ALONE it'd have to be considered a good album. Throw in the other 10 songs, and it's great.

HOT FUSS is one of the catchiest, enjoyable listens in years. I LOOOOOVED that album.
After the poor reviews for SAM'S TOWN, I lost faith in The Killers. SAWDUST solidified that feeling.
But judging from this article I may have reason to rejoice. The Killers sound best when they are doing the whole retro- New Wave/synth/dance rock thing.
Here's hoping DAY AND AGE is a return to form.
And NEG? Go f**k yourself, you bender.

sameer | September 16, 2008 11:49 AM

fuck yeah!

katja | September 16, 2008 11:35 AM

NEG | September 16, 2008 10:51 AM

and the world yawns...

The Killers are, without doubt, the most exciting band around. Brandon Flowers is the perfect frontman, charasmatic, handsome and talented. Hot Fuss and Sams Town are brilliant albums and Sawdust was excellent as well. I think Day and Age is going to be fantastic and I am looking forward to it being released.

I agree with Leila. rolling stone have been douche bags in the past and this interview was nice....wow.

Dear Osvaldo Gonzalez... | September 16, 2008 1:39 AM

Dear Osvaldo Gonzalez,
No, they didn't fire the guy who reviewed Sam's Town, on account of that is Rob Sheffield, one of their editors. Anyway, he thought Sam's Town sucked because it did. Have to say I'm intrigued for the new disc though. Still, if anything is like Uncle Johnny or Bling (Confessions of a King), it will also suck. P.S. Will somebody tell Dave Keuning the whole "not wearing a shirt" thing isn't working out?

caitlin | September 16, 2008 12:15 AM

awwwww he likes kol....for some reason that makes me like the killers so much more!

malch | September 16, 2008 12:06 AM

RS this is a great article about a great band, finally!
like Leila Sam's town was way better than your 2 stars.

i predict this band will last for a long, long time.
You better give them a nice review for Day & Age.
:-)

Osvaldo Gonzalez | September 15, 2008 11:44 PM

YEEESSS!

Rolling Stone is surprisingly nice to the Killers, hahaha, maybe they fired someone for that awful review of sam's town. Very excited OMG!

I Know Who the Real Killer Is | September 15, 2008 11:38 PM

I'm a musician. I once belonged to Taxi, an "independent A & R organization." Taxi didn't like my music, my integrity. Taxi probably still likes young bands--but it doesn't take long to age--like the Killers.

Karl Roves have been running rock & roll--what's it called now?--since the 1960s. Poor mongrels/poor GW Bush-like Killers.

Jungleland | September 15, 2008 9:49 PM

You owe them a good review after trashing the FANTASTIC Sam's Town

mcache | September 15, 2008 9:41 PM

Since when did Billy Squire start playing guitar for them?

April | September 15, 2008 9:30 PM

The new album'll be totally rad:)

Mikel | September 15, 2008 9:12 PM

YES! Finally there is light at the end of the tunnel! :-)

Anonymous | September 15, 2008 9:03 PM

I love The Killers so much! I am so psyched about this album. I absolutely cannot wait. I love hearing Brandon talk about his wife and child. :D

Nice | September 15, 2008 8:56 PM

Finally something nice about the Killers in RS. This has me excited for the new record.

jake | September 15, 2008 8:14 PM

Beth | September 15, 2008 7:31 PM

neonlauren93 | September 15, 2008 7:16 PM

shit. i cant wait. thats all i have to say.

Leila | September 15, 2008 6:50 PM

Hmmm...Rolling Stone is being surprisingly nice to the Killers. Maybe they realized what douchebags they were when Sam's Town came out? That album bit this magazine in the ass, it was WAY better than 2 out of 5 duuuudes!

Nope, I'm never gonna let that go. :)

Poppy | September 15, 2008 6:41 PM

THAT HAS GOT ME SO EXICITED
