Cover Band Sells Out Radio City

September 23, 2008 12:33 PM

This past weekend, a cover band did the unthinkable: They sold out Radio City Music Hall.

The Fab Faux -- a Beatles cover band featuring bassist Will Lee (from the Letterman show) and guitarist Jimmy Vivino (from Conan's house band) -- celebrated their tenth anniversary at the hallowed New York City venue. Six thousand fans showed up. Crazy.

Click here for a full report, featuring mp3's of tunes from the concert, including three of our favorite Beatles cuts, "Glass Onion," "Paperback Writer" and "A Day In the Life."

The Zimmers -- a British singing group whose lead singer is 91 years old -- have just released their debut album, Lust For Life.

The group rose to fame last year with their cover of the Who's "My Generation", which peaked at Number 26 on the British pop charts. Lust for Life also contains covers of the Beatles and Eric Clapton.

Two of the members of the Zimmers are 102 years old.

At their record release party in Berlin, lead singer Alf Carretta said, "Hopefully we won't be chased around by groupies."

Jenny Lewis -- most notably of the quartet, Rilo Kiley --is about to release her second solo disc, Acid Tongue. So when we spoke with her yesterday we had to ask about her experiences with acid on her tongue. Turns out there was but one LSD experience, when Jenny was in her early teens.

It was enough to scare her (and scar her) for life, a sordid tale involving knives, her psycho friend, and a pilgrimage to the gates of an elementary school. Click more for Jenny's recollections of her acid trip.

Kanye West, John Legend, and Stevie Wonder will be among the artists featured on an official soundtrack to the campaign of Senator Barack Obama, entitled Yes We Can: Voices of a Grassroots Movement. The collection will be available through Obama's website, with the profits going straight into his election fund.

The project will be comprised of mainly pre-recorded hits, such as John Mayer's "Waiting for the World to Change," and Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Dellivered I'm Yours."

But there are some interesting new cuts, as well. Kanye and Adam Levine team up with Chicago poet Malik Yusef for a new track called "Promised Land," and Legend offers his version of U2's "Pride (In the Name of Love)."

George Michael Busted In Another Bathroom

George Michael was arrested in a London bathroom on Friday afternoon for being in possession of crack cocaine and weed. According to reports, a lavatory attendant alerted police to Michael's bizarre behavior, leading to the singer's arrest. Somehow, Michael was released with a cautionary warning and no further action will be taken. He has since apologized for the incident, stating, “I want to apologize to my fans for screwing up again, and to promise them I’ll sort myself out. And to say sorry to everybody else, just for boring them."

Michael was arrested in 1998 for conducting a lewd act in a public restroom, and then again in 2006 for possession of marijuana and driving while unfit to operate a car.

Well done!
