Will Zeppelin Play On?

British gossip rag the Sun is reporting that Robert Plant has finally caved and will join the rest of Led Zeppelin for a reunion tour next summer.

According to their source, Plant was moved to reunite with Zep after his band mates played hardball and decided to audition singers to replace Plant. "He realized he couldn’t face the thought of not being involved," the Sun's source said.

Do you believe it? We don't.

UPDATE: Robert Plant has issued a statement on his website denying rumors of a Zep reunion. Click here for more info.

Bobby D has just announced another 18 dates to his Never Ending Tour, which has now extended through November.

Only three of these dates will touch the U.S. (two in Wisconsin, one in his Minnesota homeland), while the rest will be spread all over Canada.

We're anticipating a seven hour drive to Kingston, Ontario, to bear witness once again to the only surviving Jedi master.

Ray LaMontagne + Meg White

September 25, 2008 2:20 PM

Singer/songwriter Ray LaMontagne has written a sweet love song for the White Stripes' drummer Meg White. The name of the song? "Meg White." Here's just a few of the lyrics:

"Baby you're the bomb. Oh Jack is great, don't get me wrong. But this is your song."

"Someday I'd like to take a walk with you, maybe ride our bikes down by the sea.  Talk about most anything you'd like to talk about, and watch the sun going down, going down."

The rumor is that Meg loves the song and will be meeting up with LaMontagne at his show in Michigan. Not sure yet if they'll ride their bikes down to the sea and go down on each other.

Oh No, Limp Bizkit Is Back

According to widespread internet rumors and a strong hint from Fred Durst on his MySpace, it appears Limp Bizkit have a reunion in the works. Here's what Durst blogged, coupled with our heartfelt comments.

Durst: "It is getting very close to time to drop the bizkit on the universe."

S.S.: For the love of God, don't drop the Bizkit. Leave the Bizkit wherever it is. Don't touch the Bizkit.

Durst: "We, Limp Bizkit, are excited about the future for us and for you."

S.S.: If there is chance of our paths crossing in the future, or of us having to listen to a new Limp Bizkit song, please kill us now.

Durst: "LBF is the way. LBF is for life. Let's stir some shit up my friends."

S.S.: Stirring is not a good idea. Stop stirring. Thank you.

Killer Bands on Alive Records

Burbank-based label Alive Naturalsound Records are boasting a sick young roster. Here are a few of our favorite young bands:

Hacienda:

  • Brothers Abraham (keys), Rene (bass), and Jaime Villanueva (drums) and cousin Dante Schwebel (guitar).
  • Discovered by the Black Keys' Dan Auerbach, who produced their latest album, Loud is the Night.
  • Obsessed with the Beach Boys. Look like Mexican-American Kings of Leon.
  • On tour now with Dr. Dog.

    Hacienda - "Shake Ya"

Brimstone Howl
:

  • Led by singer John Ziegler and guitarist Nick Waggoner, with Calvin Retzlaff on drums.
  • Cross between The Clash and The Misfits. Part fuzz, part grunge and a machine gun back beat.
  • Legendary producer Jim Diamond (The White Stripes) produced their latest, We Come In Peace.

Brimstone Howl - "Child of Perdition"

Buffalo Killers:

  • Power trio with bassist Zachary Gabbard, brother Andrew on guitar. Joseph Sebaali holds it down on drums.
  • Blues, classic rock and lot of hair.
  • Dan Auerbach produced the latest record from the Buffalo Killers, Let It Ride.

Buffalo Killers - "Get Together Now Today"

Ray Davies Ready for Kinks Reunion!

September 24, 2008 1:54 PM

Some promising news on the Kinks: Singer Ray Davies says he's stoked about the possibility of a reunion. Davies admits there are a few hurdles to jump before any definite plans are made, including his brother Dave's health (he had a stroke in 2004, which may hinder his guitar skills), and their ability to write new songs.

"There is a desire to do it, but the thing that would make me decide yes or no would be whether or not we could do new songs, even if it's four or five," said Davies. "My pitch to the other guys -- because I'm really for it -- was what would we have written if we hadn't have had our first hit, 'You Really Got Me?' I think new work is important for artists as they mature and get older."

Wilco and Fleet Foxes Take On Dylan

Wilco and Fleet Foxes will be giving away a free cover of Dylan's "I Shall Be Released" to those who pledge to vote in the 2008 Election. The song was recorded when the bands shared a bill in Bend, Oregon, this past August.

When we ran into Foxes singer Robin Pecknold, we asked him about their mini-tour with Wilco:

"I love what Wilco has done. They're the shit. And we got to sing harmonies on 'I Shall Be Released!' Jeff sang the lead vocal and we sang the harmonies and the chorus. It was amazing. I mean, last Christmas I was doing the same thing with my mom and dad and brother. And now we got to do it with Wilco!"

Got A Burning Question?

September 23, 2008 1:20 PM

Let's introduce a new feature to the S.S. site.

As we promised in our mission statement, we would like the S.S. to be a forum for you music fans to talk to your favorite musicians.

In a couple hours we'll be leaving the S.S. offices to spend the day with the Kings of Leon. Their sick new record, Only By the Night, is out today, and we'll be rollin' with the Kings to their Letterman taping this afternoon, and to their show tonight at Webster Hall in NYC.

So, click on Tips and send us the best questions you got.

Also, in the next few days we'll be speaking to Lucinda Williams, Pearl Jam's Jeff Ament and Lou Reed

Or if you're curious what your favorite artist is up to, we'll find out.

Bring it on!

Courtney Love Searches For Help

September 23, 2008 12:47 PM

Courtney Love has posted a want ad on her Myspace page, searching for a "non thieving non freaky housekeeper," and a "documentarist."

As usual, Love ignores the spell-check function and rambles on, saying that she'll be entering the studio soon, presumably to work on new music. Also, Love says she's working on a film, and she thinks she knows who's going to play "kurt." The "HTH" she refers to in her post is Heavier Than Heaven, reportedly based on the 2001 Charles Cross book Heavier Than Heaven: A Biography of Kurt Cobain.

Love is sick of "pigs that steal," and resolves, "fuck it why not try my space."

Would you be Courtney's house-bitch?
