Making Out with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs

The Smoking Section caught up with Yeah Yeah Yeah's guitarist Nick Zinner recently at the opening reception to his photo exhibit, "It's OK, Don't Look at the Road."

"I'm not really interested in the whole rock and roll party vibe, and I don't really want to exploit my band like that either," he told us about his photos, which were splayed all over the walls of Manhattan's Fuse Gallery, on the Lower East Side. "So it's kind of more abstract fragments."

He confirmed the Yeah's are hard at work on their new album, but wouldn't say jack shit about it. "We're keeping it under wraps for now. There's not really much I can say; a lot of it is TBD."

That's cool. The party was still fun. Zinner welcomed TV on the Radio frontman Tunde Adebimpe and drummer Jaleel Bunton as well as former Smashing Pumpkins' guitarist James Iha. "When we toured together, he was always habitual, disciplined and routine about those pictures," Bunton told us. "He's an amazing artist. Very humble."

We were saddened by the passing of Dave Matthews Band sax-man LeRoi Moore. From what we heard, he was a quiet, introspective dude. We met LeRoi once in Charlottesville, Virginia, and he was really nice.

Our buddy, esteemed rock photographer Danny Clinch, sent us this photo of LeRoi's arsenal, taken prior to DMB's legendary 2003 gig in Central Park.

Black Keys: All We Ever Wanted

One of the best albums of '08 is the Black Keys' Attack and Release, which kicks off with  "All You Ever Wanted."

It starts out pretty chill, but at the 2:18 mark, the song explodes with an barrage of organ and synth-bass. We would compare it to the transcendental moment when Miles Davis' trumpet comes in on "So What", or the snare crack on "Like A Rolling Stone."

Black Keys guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney have some fond (although not exactly similar) memories on recording the euphoric ending of "All You Ever Wanted," and they were nice enough to share them exclusively with the Smoking Section. Head to the jump to read what the boys had to say.
