When Archie Met Cookie

American Idol is the type of show you either hate, or fist-fight your roommate over when they suggest watching House during commercial breaks.

For the latter, the only thing possibly sweeter than having six-day-champ David Cook show up at your office for lunch is runner-up David Archuleta joining him, and the two spending the afternoon calling each other "Cookie" and "Archie" as they attempt to figure out which of them is being addressed.

Archuleta, the puppy-eyed 17-year-old who was labeled a shoe-in by the Los Angeles Times (and all three judges), appeared humbled as he smiled through (every!) sentence and even learned a new word.

Us Editor Bradley Jacobs: You always loved American Idol, so it wasn't just a lark when you went to audition. Archie: It wasn't just a what?

Cook, the 25-year-old bartender who crept up on the competition sometime in the last month, proclaimed that he figured he was leaving during week one, and how amused he was by the fact that most DVRs cut the show off before his big moment, leaving anybody who watched the show on delay without an image of his victory. "I gotta be honest: That's the kind of stuff I find hilarious. I'm still laughing about that. I'm cruel, I guess."

It was the iconic Boy vs Man game. You know, Puppy vs Dog.

Q: Of the songs you performed, which did you like best?
Archuleta: I liked all the songs!
Cook: The last one on the Tuesday of Finale week [Collective Soul's "The World I Know"]. Because it was the end of a chapter. I didn't have to think about anything else but enjoying the moment.

Mrs. Gentry would be so proud.
